And Marcus Camby is nowhere in sight.

According to NBA coaches he's the best too (as indicated by the All-Defensive Team voting). The only ones who don't appreciate him are journalists (DPOY Award) and fans of other teams :)

The players and coaches should be voting on the award and not the sports writers. I never 100% agreed with any award voted on sports writers, including HOF nominations.

After watching Bowen completely shut down Marion in the '05 playoffs, I'm convinced there's no better defender in the league.

"Nuggets center Marcus Camby, who won the award this season, failed to receive a vote in this poll..."
Practically everytime camby tried to block a shot in the last series, he left his man wide open under the basket. Most of the time the result was an easy two for the Spurs. Other times, when he did block a shot, he would swat the ball into the 3rd row, resulting in an easy 2 for the Spurs on the ensuing inbounds play. DPOY my ass.

Remember why Horry was left open in the corner for his game deciding 3 point shot in the Nuggets series? A driving Parker was too tempting to resist for Camby. "Defensive" lapse for the DPOY.

see journalists don't watch games and they base their assessments on stats. camby is a great shot blocker and a solid help defender. in fact most of his blocks never came against the man he was guarding. bowen locks people up and there is no stat for that so the writers can't "measure" his defensive prowess.

They need to change the voting from these idiot sport writers and have the players and coaches vote! Way to go Bruce! The real Defensive Player of the Year!
Timmy should be second!
