After most, if not all, Spurs loses, I can find consolation in SOMETHING to help me feel confident going into the next game: whether it's someone's superb play; a great team-effort; unlucky breaks, etc...
This morning I can't find it, the silver lining. I can't find anything good about last nights debacle. If I reaaaallly stretch my imagination, I am encouraged by Barry's play. That positve, however, is nullified by Pop's TERRIBLE substitutions, horriblle lay calling, and laughable line-up decisions. :pctoss
What is there in last night's craptacular display that offer's encouragement for the rest of the series? Throw me a bone.

Spurs will win Game 5. Book it.
I have game six tickets. That's about the best thing that came out of it.

Suns will be down two starters. That = easy spurs win.

For the first 3 quarters, the Spurs were completely in control of that game. They just choked in the 4th.

Oh, yeah, since my work has casual days on Spurs home games during the playoffs, Friday is Casual day....
so, that's good, I guess.

given the spurs penchant for playing down to teams missing key starters, i would say it's anything but.

The spurs lost, bad waterfall of situations on the 4th quarter. Ticky tack fouls on duncan, lead to key players trying to "take over the game". This lead to really dumb shots, loosing their heads, etc...
The suns were ready to take it over, they had been getting owned all night, and we all know basketball is a game of "hot or cold" the suns were heating up at the right time, and we lost our heads.
We owned that entire game, defensively and offensively. The cards just didnt fall right at the end.
Look for a really good game 5, win or loose i am satisfied with this series.

Here are some silver linings:
1. The Spurs' 4th quarter execution was so atrocious and cannot get much worse, if at all, that the players and coaches have to be disgusted and determined to take whatever measures so that that does not happen again. Are the Spurs really going to be that pathetic down the stretch twice in a row, especially since the Spurs will treat next game like an elminiation game? I doubt it. I'm not saying it'll be good enough to beat Phoenix, but make no mistake, the Spurs will position themselves to have a shot at winning next game, no matter how mad and frustrated Spurs fans feel right now.
2. Do you really see Tim Duncan riding 5 fouls midway through the 4th two games in a row?
3. Manu will improve on his 3-14 shooting performance, again, no scientific evidence, but just knowing the kind of winner he is, the heart he has, and the magnitude of next game.
4. 29 - 14 free throw advantage for Phoenix AT San Antonio, and Phoenix also solidly outrebounded the Spurs. I blame the Spurs' level of aggression. I think they'll play with more controlled fire for 48 minutes next game.
Those are a few.

Spurs are winning this series in 6 with or without suspensions on Amare & Diaw. Spurs gotta watch out though, because even with all the cheap shots by Horry and such, there is no bigger dirty punk out there than Raja Bell....and when the Spurs are running away with this thing, there's no doubt that he's going to try to exact "revenge" in his own stupid way.

The silver lining:
It's only tied. Spurs still gonna win!

There were stretches in the game where the Spurs were playing incredible defense. The Spurs forced several shot clock violations and that's something that hardly ever happends to Phoenix. Heck, they usually shoot in the first 10 sec.

Three of the four games have been played at the halfcourt, grind it out pace the Spurs prefer. Phoenix is not going to win the series if that continues. The only reason they won last night is because of Duncan's foul trouble late in the game. Spurs just couldnt buy a bucket in crunchtime. If Duncan is playing with four fouls, then the Spurs win. He was out when the Suns began their run, and he was way too tentative when he came back playing with that fifth foul.
The Suns are not going to typically win these kinds of games.

The Spurs can still win this. My friend was predicting that the Suns and Spurs would alternate game wins all the way through game 7, with the Spurs winning in PHX. I think the Spurs can win it, but I just hate for them to be wore down going into the next series.

No need to panic. We got beat, thats all. Goes back to a three game series with two on the road. A few bonehaed plays, a few missed/bad calls, one stupid move by Horry (though I thought it wasnt near as bad as some make it out to be). We are tough on the road, the pressure is on PHX.

I guess that the next game, the Spurs will have a fire under their collective ass. I woulda loved to hear Pop in the locker room after the game.
"Gotdammit! I sucked tonight!!!! I'm taking myself outta the coaching rotation!! Barry, you were good, but Finley's gonna play twice your minutes again. Timmy, you are only allowed 4 fouls, on the 5th, you're out. Last but not least.....Jacque Vaughn -- you have earned more time on the floor with your consistent shot and ball protection."
This coming from a Pop defender.

Yeah, Raja Bell is definitely a big a-hole. I liked seeing Horry forearm his punk ass back.
