View Full Version : Could you stay with someone who was anti-Spurs?

Not just non-Spurs fan, but I suspect he may be a Spurs hater. He's rooting for the Suns in this series, has made comments about refs "giving" us games and dissed several individual Spurs. He also, in an email to me and everyone on his buddy-list, said "We can now look forward to another boring Spurs-Pistons Finals. Yawn" When I told him that was actually an exciting Finals, he admitted he didn't actually watch it. I'm about ready to dump him. Is that an over-reaction.

btw- he's a Lakers fan.

It's basketball.
It shouldn't have anything to do with your love life.
Fans of opposing teams marry and live happily ever after.
Get a grip.

It'd be okay if he's not really a fan but a Spurs hater? Let him go...

I'll do you one better.
Could you accept a free ticket to the game and hotel with the caveat you had to wear a Suns jersey to the game?

Him hating the Spurs is not enough to break up but if he constantly antagonizes you over it then obviously there are other issues involved.

thanks to everyone for weighing in. It actually really does bother me and I was just wondering how other Spurs fans would react. It would be one thing if he had the decency to keep his Spurs hating comments to himself knowing how much I love them.

Thanks again everyone!

In fact my wife converted from Mavs fan to Spurs fan.

No life? Give me a break. Tell the people who participate in all these "I'd hit it" threads with thousands of responses to get a life. Oh wait...you're probably one of them.

To seriously address the thread...I could if she was at least intelligent about her arguments supporting/hating the teams.

When we first started going out, my ex-girlfriend was a Lakers "follower" (she didn't really follow basketball, but she liked the Lakers from who she watched growing up). She started becoming a Spurs fan once she started learning more about the game and we'd watch together.

Chill, I just think you're question is ridiculous. It's just basketball. I can't imagine a game having that severe of an impact on my personal relationships.

I never let others tell me how to live my life. I was merely curious how others would react to have such a person in their life. Please accept my apologies for this frivolous thread everyone. Especially since all of your threads are so profound and thought provoking.

My roomie is a Mavs fan and he talks crap to me.....

I lost all credibility for him when during halftime of a Mavs/Warriors game he didn't even know they were playing that night.

Just prove him wrong.

Not only should you break up with him, you should knee him in the groin and hip-check him into the scorer's table.

my boyfriend *2 yrs so far* is a total Spurs fan... dont let that stop you from seeing where the relationship may/may not go... basketball should have NO effect whatsoever on your love life... and i have heard it all from top to bottom about how great the Spurs are... 3 rings... TD, TP, MANU... blah, blah, blah-fuckin-blah!

...and I'm still not converted. i swear he's gotta mancrush on Timmy too... and he's really givin it to me constantly since the Mavs exit 1rst round... BUT all the bickering should normally be finished off with some GREAT SEX - now if that doesnt follow - DUMP HIM!!! now thass just my .02...

IIRC, she was a freshman when DR was a senior, and I don't recall if they actually had any classes together...I'd have to ask her. Also, her cousin went to the Naval Academy and graduated in 1987 with DR.

My husband isn't a Spurs fan in particular, but he likes going to games with me and he'll watch on TV sometimes. On the flip side, he's a NASCAR fan, which I cannot stand and don't watch, so really I'm the intolerant one of the others' sports habits. We both like football and hate MLB, though, so we have more common ground than not. Or I guess we wouldn't have been married almost 16 years.
