View Full Version : Carmelo Anthony Overrated

While LeBron James and Dwyane Wade turn into superstars, Carmelo Anthony is getting worse. He's a ballhog with limited court vision. He also doesn't play defense.

Don't get me wrong, he's a gifted one-on-one scorer. But other than that one aspect of his game, he's nothing special. He's having a lot of off the court issues and the players on the Nuggets have voiced their frustration about him on numerous occasions.

He's young and has a long time to figure it out, but right now he's not a franchise player. Unless Denver can get the rest of the team involved, no way their going to the playoffs.

P.S.

Do jimcs50, ducks and company still say that Carmelo is a better player than LeBron?

:lol

I said that Lebron would be a better pro after the 1st year. Check it out.

He is going to be the next Glenn Robinson.
Carmelo assist numbers are not good for being the #1 option on the team and his rebounding is good but could be better. Also, I agree with timvp he is a terrible defender.

Carmelo is a whiny baby. He will never be as good as Lebron because he doesn't make his teammates better. Someday ten years from now, people will be calling the latest overrated ball hog the next Melo.

LeBron and Wade > Anthony.

That said, I still believe 'Melo can be a bonafide star in the league if taught to keep his head screwed on.

last year, they both had good years.
But now, Lebron is deffenantly showing that he's going to be a superstar in this league.

I haven't seen anything from Melo, but it's only the beginning of the year, so who knows

Jeez, it's only his second year. It took a few years for even the great Jordan to play with his teammates.

Is it a sophmore slump? I don't know. But as a wolves fan the most i focus in on him is when he's playing agaisnt Trenton. Its almost ludicrious how he defends him. Other good to great players he defends still beat him from time to time, no biggie but Carmelo ALWAYS tries to isolate and when he does i've yet to see him try to drive. I'm sure he could make a few more shots or at the very least get some fouls but he'll never pass or drive. These ARE things that are overcomed with exp. though. As a fan of a division opponent when the game is on the line at this point i want the ball in carmelo's hand out of EVERYONE on the nuggets.

Thats a good point.
Yeah, it is only his second year, he's scoring as much as he did last year. I think he'll improve throughout this season, but it is clear that James deserved the Rookie OF the Year.

Although a case could have been made for Wade, carried Miami last year with his clutchness when he wasn't hurt.

Right now its a toss up - probably would take James because he bigger, but Wade just seems to have a winning edge about him and playing with Shaq will not hurt him a bit. Either over Anthony by a mile. It is too back Brown has that other guy, what the heck was name so buried = Brown equal a dead weight on developing young talent.

"what about Vince carter?"

Vince Carter is the current version of Dominique Wilkins. All Hype, no heart.
Melo needs to lose some ego quick before he loses all of his credibility. His teenage arrogance is a great argument for age limits in the NBA. then again, Lebron's maturity is one of the best ever arguments against age limits.

Melo I believe enjoyed being the "man" in Denver, now with Martin, Nene etc. he may be forcing his shots to get his points. He will be back when he settles down but along with TMac seem to be the most disappointing of the "NBA" big names this year and that is a "tragedy".

I agree Sickdsm. Nique had some heart, and always played hard. He just didn't have a good team, and couldn't get past the Celtics that one year.

As for the poster who said that Melo = Glenn Robinson, you are right on the mark. I was just about to post the same statement.

Wade and Lebron are proving that they can play. Wade is going to have a great career and i think that eventually he will be an All - Star, Melo and Lebron will too. But Melo is only going to be an All - Star because he is popular like that, ASG is all about popularity, not necessarily the best players play in the ASG.
I hope Lebron is in the dunk contest this year.

Man, Carmello has become so one-dimensional in the NBA. He's alost like another Allan Houston. Wade and Bron shoul d be the starting backcourt for the East this year.

Carmelo is a great talent. The difference between him and James is that on the Cavs. James is the unquestioned leader, a really amazing fact for a guy who is 19 or 20. And James has taken to the task. Melo just isn't a leader. And how many guys his age that come into the league are? He is a talented player who hasn't yet learned that winning at this level takes a lot more than talent. It's a wisdom that some guys never learn, and others pick it up slowly, and others take a couple of years. As the go to guy Melo isn't there yet. James and Wade seem to have naturally fallen into those slots for their teams. Really amazing considering how young both of those guys are.

Was he? I don't think so. Vince Carter has advanced in the playoffs before as well. Not only are they similiar, they're almost the same person historically.

I look at Melo and I see Kobe in LA all over again. I think after the split ROTY vote and all the pressure that the Nuggets have after overachieving last year he feels like he has to personally shoot his team to the top. All the off the court junk hasn't helped either.

LeBron is the best player in the league....not just better than Wade or Carmelo. I think you will soon realize this. He has improved his jump-shot and his defense which actually weren't that bad last year. He is the best passer in the league and he has better hops than anyone else in the league. He is also the calmest, most relaxed 19 year-old I've ever seen. He almost never forces anything and he is nearly impossible to defend since he is so unselfish. If Cleveland can add a top-tier player to their roster in the future they will be a load. It's possible that Luke Jackson may turn out to be a terrific complement to LeBron. We'll see.

We'll see.I agree in general with our resident Blazers' fan. He has improved his jump-shot, although he still needs to improve his defense quite substantially IMHO. While he is definitely NOT the best passer in the league (Nash would be the best, and among SGs Manu is the best passer hands down), his passing ability is quite good and top tier. He is arguably top 3 in jumping ability, and his body is genetically designed to play hoops. His seems to be very mature for his age, or at the very least much more mature than any other player around his age in the league.

I wonder what would be the Cavaliers' record this season if Boozer was still wearing a Cavs uniform. Barring a serious injury, King James will be one of the best players in the league the next 10-15 years.
