No cure for cancer.
No creds for Shirley.
Most outstanding quality about his namby rant was the impotence level.
You go, Shirl!

Golly, another whine from someone connected (even tenuously) with the Suns. Surprise. Must be something in the D'Antoni water.

This guy is actually very qualified to have opinions on cheerleading. At least he's not trying write about basketball.

*FORMER SUN* Dan Majerle said in a radio interview on FSR that Bruce Bowen wasn't all that dirty, and wouldn't have stood out in the 1990s. Majerle said the NBA now is just a lot softer. I trust his opinion seeing as he, you know, PLAYED, more than I do benchjockey Shirley's.

Rooting for the Spurs is like cheering for cancer?

I think that's the most fucked up thing I've heard so far.

Talk about unprofessional.

If the Spurs are cancer, the Suns are herpes -- they flare up for brief periods (regular season) but disappear with relative ease (come playoff time).

Can we root for him to get cancer? I figure, if I already root for the Spurs, I might as well.

That would explain the Championship years pattern... Remmision and relapses..

Lets hope the league becomes inoperable soon.

In todays world anybody who can type simple sentences gets to voice their opinion to a national audience. Journalism has died.

This is bullsh1t.

My wife beat cancer two years ago and we actually just got home tonight from a local Relay for Life to benefit the American Cancer Society.

I love a good hyperbole statement, but "cancer" should be taboo to use in jest, really.

I want to publicly say here that I will make one of my life missions to go after Paul Shirley and show him what real cancer does to people. He is just a pathetic human being, playing around with such a thing that has taken down so many people.

He is going to pay for it.

What that asshole Shirley probably doesn't know is that Tim Duncan's mother died of cancer when he was a boy. What a classless piece of shit who only got his job by dropping to his knees. :madrun

Yeah, Thunder Dan is one of my fav player in the '90s, esp. in his Suns day. The guy's the epitome of 'tough' back then, he must be embarassed that his former team has turn into a whiney bunch lately.

Oh well, I like Bill Simmons. He gives mad props to Duncan, and that's enough in my book. He's entertaining, and incredibly full of himself. But I enjoy reading his stuff (his piece on the suspensions was just another piece of asinine jouvenile dribble).

damn, i think carolla is about as funny as they come. his radio show is pretty damn hilarious at times (especially the re-enactments). he's just not overly smooth in his delivery. pedoph-"isle" was somewhat entertaining.

I would be interested to hear George Karl's response to this. He classifies himself as an ameture 'sociologist' and has some pretty blunt views on political correctness. Being that both he and his son are cancer patients, it would be telling to hear what he has to say on the matter. Quite frankly, I agree with Karl that PC kills conversation and makes communication difficult in the world we now live in, instead of just growing thicker skins...
If serious, what Paul said doesn't hurt anyone... Just an opinion. If in jest, why even make a big deal out of nothing. I get that cancer is a sensitive issue for people touched by it, but I have a feeling that many of those people would just laugh it off as what it is, some guy's means to get attention/make a living.

IMHO this is a non issue.

I am not particularly fond of Paul's but he is an interesting story, and not a bad writer. Rarely do I actually read any of what he puts out, so I don't know what his articles are usually like. Is this a common theme?

As a Spurs fan who lost both my parents to lung cancer, I find that article to be in really poor taste.
