That was his problem. He thought he was "the man".

DA was so fun to watch while he was in SA. His career was never really the same afterwards. But man was that guy athletic!

I was at the playoff game when he separated his shoulder, what a bummer. He was a great athletic player but the first time he aired a little dirty laundry to the media I knew he was gone.

it was a shock when the spurs had a wing player who could put the ball on the floor and drive to the basket. then the spurs brought in like 3 of those guys.

DA indirectly led to the Spurs 2003 title. By being a dick and forcing the trade, he caused Steve Smith, who was as old as dirt, to be a Spur. Smith broke down in Dec 2002, and into the starting lineup stepped a young hothead named Stephen Jackson. He held the job from Dec 2002 until the end of his Spurs career in June 2003, and was a big part of the championship run.

So, thanks DA, and how's that money workin' out for ya?

The only Spur I think of when I hear Anderson is Willie; sadly he never got a ring. The year we had to wait for Big Dave, Willie played his ass off for a measly 21 wins.

spurs played his ass perfectly in the offseason. they didn't want to pay his going rate and he made it too easy to lose him. "loyalty". everyone in the town hated him a couple months after couples were willing to name their first born after him. good stuff.

The Spurs were concerned about his durability over the course of a long-term deal. Seems like those concerns were well-founded.

I remember when our "backcourt of the future" was Antonio Daniels and Derek Anderson.

Remember the AD/DA backcourt? Wow.

Man, I was so heartsick to see him go after just one season. Don't want to sound like a Suns' fan, but I still wonder how much better the Spurs would have faired against LA in the WCF had he not been taken out by Juwon Howard's flagrant.

Big difference between the Howard and the Horry foul.

Even when DA came back he wasn't the same.

Juwan Howard's flagrant really did cost the Spurs the title that year.
Horry's foul on Nash didn't cost the Suns shit. Amare and Diaw's stupdity did that.

Whatever. Derek Anderson was a greedy fuck. He's never been able to stay healthy in his career. Not even in college. He didn't deserve the scratch he was after.

Look, he fucked up in that postseason where he sought the $$$ but at stages, he was fantastic for us. Really had alot of potential.

Derek Anderson was not that great...

But I liked him cuz he was the closest thing the Spurs had to filling that void in my Spur heart for a quick slasher, creator, and baller like Manu and Tony... Once they arrived, I realized the foolishness of me liking DA more than he deserved.

I still remember those grainy euro-league clips of some skinny argentinian blurring through the lane and dunking on everyone.... I didn't know exactly what I was seeing, but I knew it was special...

And let me just get one thing straight here...DA was not the answer to that fuckin beatdown given to us by LA. Seriously...he just was NOT that great. We would've most likely been done in 6... DA would've been owned by Kobe...mercilessly. I too, for a while, fancied notions of "what-if's" and possibilities shortly after those playoffs...if only we had DA.... yeah...i was a fool. We would've lost no matter what.

Incredibly overrated and soft, and never did anything in the playoffs.

The excuse Spurs fans like to give about his injury making the difference in losing to the Lakers by an average of 70 points per game is about as lame as they get, given the manner in which his balls shriveled up into his pelvis in the playoffs before Juwan Howard separated his shoulder.

If the DA of 2001 were on the 2007 Spurs, he'd be lucky to see 10 minutes a game.

Willie was pretty good, but had no talent around him. Is he still in jail or was that Alvin?
