Amid conflicting reports about whether the Phoenix Suns granted permission for two of its employees to interview for the Grizzlies' coaching and front-office vacancies, this much is true: Griz owner Michael Heisley met Suns assistant coach Marc Iavaroni and team executive David Griffin in Los Angeles during the Suns' first-round playoff series with the Lakers.
Griffin's encounter was described as merely a "meet and greet" while Iavaroni and Heisley engaged in more extensive talks, sources close to the situation explained.
Iavaroni acknowledged his meeting with Heisley in an Associated Press story over the weekend. Iavaroni also said he would explore other opportunities. He's been mentioned as a candidate in Sacramento.
Griffin, vice president of basketball operations for the Suns, has performed general manager duties since Bryan Colangelo left for Toronto. Don't be surprised if the Suns attempt to retain Griffin, who is considered one of the young bright minds in the executive ranks.
