After actually watching Suns games I would have to say Mike D. Man he complains more than anyone i have ever seen. Even when a play goes his way he is whining about it.

without a doubt D'Antoni. If you look at him during games.. the guy seriously needs some kind of medication..

So my boss and I were having a discussion about the playoffs so far and I was talking about Mike D. being a big complainer and he had the nerve to say POP was the biggest whiner as far as coaches go. Guess he doesn't know better since he is a Mavs fan hahaha.

Phil Fucking Jackson

that guys is a douche.

coming in a distant second would be D'antoni.

Oh...and what is with the Nets coach (sorry dont know his name). He looks like he is about 19 or something...how can anyone on that team take him seriously. My wife and i were laughing the other night because it looks like one of those guys that you'd find ducktaped to the wall, or stuffed in a trash can. he'd be all, "cmon guys i just wanna talk about Defense!"

I forgot to mention Isiah.....I loved him as a player but DAMN he sucks as a coach. What does Jermaine O'neil see in him? I think they have something going on in the locker room.

Phil Jackson first and foremost. D'Antoni, G Karl, and Isiah Thomas fighting for no 2 spot in quite a distant place from the 1st.

Got to be D'Antoni.

Phil is a genius but I can't stand his arrogance. I'm not sure how much of it "gamesmanship" but most of the words that come out of his mouth make we want to vomit.

Phil Jackson is an obvious #1 to me.
George Karl is #2...literally. He wasn't too bad this opening series in comparison to past years though.

Phill called '99 a fluke so fuck him! I like Scott because he's so blunt, much like Pop.

Any member of the OSCL (Old School Coach's List):
Guys who refuse to call timeouts, rotate their players, or go to the hot hand.

Jerry Slone
Larry Brown
Lenny Wilkins
Mike Dunleavy
Pat Relily
Don Nelson
Flip Saunders
George Karl
Rick Adleman
*Scot Skiles (newest inductee)

D'antoni is looking like he will be a new member next season.
Doc Rivers doesn't count because he has to be a coach first to be on the list.

These guys were/would have been great coach's back in the day, but useless (if a NBA Championship is your goal) since about 1990 or so.

In contrast, the coach's I love to watch are ones who display the ability to utilize one or more of the tools I mentioned above.

NSCL (New School Coach's List)
Phil Jackson <Perhaps the first member, maybe Chuck Daly
Rick Carlisle
Larry Bird
Jim O'Brien
Jeff Van Gundy
Avery Johnson

Pop is an interesting case. One day he will dazzle me with his ability to think like a member of the 21st century. The next day, he will pull a Larry Brown out of his ass. Can't argue much with the results, perhaps his better nature prevails more often than not.

Pat Reily is also an interesting case. For years, he languised in his inability to recognize the hot hand, nor make any coaching adjustments outside of illegal defenses, let alone call a time out. However, props where props are due, he was least OSCLish of the coaches he faced (sans Avery perhaps, I blame his collapse on inexperience more than anything else), and Pat actually innovated a little, with his use of Hack-A-Shaq against someone to protect a lead instead of trying to make one up. And, my god, I almost had a heart attack when I discovered he had called a timeout during the ECF to make an adjustment against the Pistons. I couldn't believe my eyes.

fuck you.

Calm down there, son.

Anyone remember Frank Johnson? That guy was excessively loud.

But one coach I really like is Doc Rivers. He's done a good job tutoring all of the young talent they have in Boston. I wouldn't be surprised if they got scary good in the next few years.

Phil Jackson. He simply exudes an air of entitlement, arrogance and smug cockiness, which in my opinion has little to do with the values of sport. Zen master my ass.

As much as I absolutely despise the Spurs, the one person aside from Finley whom I like is Pop. He has a very dry sense of humor in his post-game interviews and I wouldn't say he's the biggest whiner by far, pretty average. D'Antoni hands down as the most annoying coach on the floor.

However, sometimes, like when Dunleavy coached the Blazers back in the day, it's cool to watch a coach go apeshit and collect techs like free candy. Dunleavy would go different shades of red before exploding and getting t'ed up and eventually tossed out, an awesome thing to watch unfold. He doesn't do that as much anymore.

Okay guys, you all talked about the coach you can't stand, now what about the coach you like most. (not counting your team's head coach) I personally like Don Nelson. He seems to me that he is truly a players coach. And also I never forgot how he hooked up AJ with that job in Dallas. Not all because it was AJ, but it was really a nice thing to do period.

I like Nelly too but his teams are usually just all guns blazing offense. Fun to watch but they will never win a title.
