Probably something bad. Seriously, probably goofing off. I don't remember. I wasn't a huge sports fan 10 years ago. I've always liked sports, but I could miss some games then...NOT NOW!!! Same question?

I was packing up things in my apartment, preparing to drive from Lubbock, Texas to Rumson, New Jersey to work for the summer. I had a TV on, but wasn't watching the lottery at all, figuring the Celtics would end up with the #1 pick. I made a trip out to the car, and was packing another box when I heard the announcement.

My wife and I had just moved into our first home. We were thinking, "Duncan...that's cool...good pick."

Little did we know at the time... :toast

Telling Spurs fans somewhere on the internets to Believe, while thinking that Chauncey Billups or Ron Mercer (:oops) would be good contingency plans if the Spurs didn't get the #1 pick.

When I heard "and the second pick goes to the ... New Jersey Nets" I jumped down the stairs, celebrated, went outside to see if I could dunk that day, came back inside to get on the internets, joined a live chat with Sam Schuler of the Spurs on ESPN.com and changed my name to Tim-Duncan-For-MVP.

Been riding the wave of that lottery ball bounce ever since :smokin

I was in my living room in Baton Rouge. I'm usually pretty optimistic but figured Boston was a lock for the #1. I was happy to be wrong.

I was in watching TV in my apartment and when I heard the second pick goes to the New Jersey Nets, I was shocked. Stunned with repeated sayings of "Oh my God!". then "Yes!"

I was 7 years old and I was sad that the Rockets were beat in the Playoffs, Barkely was a favorite player of mine and so was Drexler/Olajuwon.

I had resigned myself to the fact that we were gonna get Chauncey Billups, so I went outside to water my mom's plants. My next door neighbor yelled to me that we got the #1 pick, so I stopped watering the plants and went back inside.

One thing I remember was watching "Real Sports" on HBO and they had a piece on Tim Duncan while he was at Wake Forest and I thought - and I'm sure I'm not the only one who thought this - was, "Wouldn't it be cool if he came here?"

I didn't hold much stock on that thought at the time.

What % did the spurs have in the lottery that year?

Watched the draft at a friend's house with some other Spurs fans, one of whom was convinced the Spurs should have picked Van Horn.

We were #6, but I think they've adjusted the percentages from year to year, so I have no idea.

Spurs are damn lucky. They are one extra or less shuffle away from still being mediocre.

I was still kinda pissed at the refs for giving the series to miami. Man I swear if we would of beat the heat in the 2nd round we would of crushed the bulls and humiliated the Jazz in the finals. :depressed

I was going to see my grandmother for the last time in the hospital (she was battling cancer and died a day or two later). It was nice to have a happy moment in a very sad day, and she was happy when my dad and I told her we just landed Duncan.

My story?

I was living at home at the age of 17...I vivedly remeber sitting on the floor in my bedroom re-aranging my basketball cards (which I STILL have, 4 huge binders worth). My dad pretty much broke down the door to tell me, he was a huge spurs fan.....

we watched the Spurs win the 1999 Championship in the hospital together, he passed away 01/02/2000....

I will NEVER give up on my Spurs after they gave that to my dad who had been a fan for more years than I have been alive...
