When did Fisher become a good defensive player?

The announcers during the first 2 games make it seem that fisher is a great defensive player. When did this happen? I've always thought he was a solid role playing pg who rode the coattails of shaq and kobe. He's decent defensively I wouldn't call him good.

He's always been a good defender...he's slow but he's still pretty damn good. His D is what got him into the NBA...he didn't develop the killer 3 shot till 2000 when he missed most of the season with foot fractures...then he broke that shot out on us in the WCF.

I agree. Fisher is overrated defensively.

A good enough defender for Popovich to make a run at him. Tough, hard-nosed with a high basketball IQ, if limited athleticism.

I always thought he was overrated period...but of course would not mind a veteran of his caliber and character on my team...if that makes sense to some of ya.... :blah
