Only reason why he's opting out is to get more money. He looking for max money. No way the Spurs are in position to offer that to him.

2006/07 San Antonio Spurs Payroll: $60.9 million
2006/07 Estimated NBA Salary Cap: $52 million
Roughly: $8.9 million over cap

that was last year
spurs are in the same boat this year

I really don't think Rashard is looking for max money...well, let's say he really isn't EXPECTING it. See "BONZI WELLS". THAT fucking tool wanted max money and he got the shaft to some team for a million that didn't even want him. I think being of decent character as he is, he'll accept something FAR FAR less.

so that is 7.5 million and you think lewis wants 10
spurs have to trade more then that
and why would sonics want beno and berry for lewis
letting him walk is better then those 2

1. Let's focus on the title and worry about the off-season when it gets here.

2. Some n00b posters on this thread obviously need to make their way to the salary cap FAQ and figure out how in the hell it works, because it's obvious on this that they have no clue.

Trading for Rashard Lewis would be foolish. Not to mention, as has been stated in the thread, completely unrealistic.

Here's the Spurs' likely payroll outlook for 07 - 08 (http://www.hoopshype.com/salaries/san_antonio.htm) before we even think about signing any draft picks (http://www.insidehoops.com/salaries-rookies.shtml) (say...Aaron Afflalo :) ).

When Rashard opts out and after draft day has come and gone, Seattle is probably looking at about ~54 - 55 million on the books for next season. I mean we don't know the exact salary cap for next season, but that'll probably be around 3 or 4 million under the cap. Plus their midlevel.

The point is they have some room to work. So not only are Barry, Beno, Butler, and whoever else some Spurs' fans might dream of trading, poor value for the Sonics talent wise...but their expiring contracts are even less attractive to the Sonics considering Seattle is going to have some room to move under the salary cap for a couple years to come once Rashard opts out.

Maybe it's me, but I can't see how any team would pony up a max offer for Lewis. He's not a MAX player

txmed
05-24-2007, 12:48 AM
Some players with max contracts: Joe Johnson, Paul "I'm Injured" Pierce, Michael Redd, Stevey Franchise, Starbury, Antwan Jamison

I won't say it is a sure thing he gets the ~15 million or whatever the max is next year, but I wouldn't write it off.

Well either way, there will not be another player on this team making that type of money. Unless his name is Tim Duncan or unless Cuban is "footing the bill" for it as the Benefactor.

Fin seems happy in SA, and I don't see him leaving until he has a ring, which hopefully will be soon. With Cuban paying him, the Spurs don't have much reason to trade him, especially since he's starting to produce a little better. Has he said anything about retiring?

If the Spurs continue towards the title and bring it home, Fin isn't going anywhere.

With the team we have now intact and healthy, the Spurs would for sure have a shot again next year.

You're right, they tank the first half of the year so they have energy the last half.

Finley has made enough money in his career, I'm sure that's not one of his incentives.

I think he retires as a Spur and by the way he's playing, I think he has 2 years in him still.

We'll probably try to trade Barry again.

finley's been a gamer in this playoffs. i think the spurs need to start working some youth into the swing rotation. james white is there, if the spurs use one of #28 or 33 on a wing that would be another potential young wing, and of course they could always sign someone (ie pietrus) or trade for one. on the whole, i think barry's done well in this playoffs, but you need some youth in that rotation, imo. :hat

I'm not sure that going 28-13 is tanking the first half of the season. Either that, or the Spurs don't really know how to tank very well, since they went 30-11 in the second half.

No way Finley leaves this summer...He has a player option for next season which pays him north of 20 million (Mavs have to pony up 18+), so there is no way he does not exercise that option. He will be back. Horry wants to be back, but I don't want him, we need to get younger. I see us dealing Barry and probably getting Grant Hill to come fill his role for one year at the vet min. We might be players in FA if we are able to to deal some contracts such as beno and barry. I believe ely, bonner, and horry (if we don't bring him back) are off the books.

1. Let's focus on the title and worry about the off-season when it gets here.

Hear hear!

The off-season means jack squat.

The whole point of going for a championship is to relax when it's over and enjoy being the champ. Let the other 30 non-title-winning teams worry about their offseasons and try to get to where we already are. The Spurs, on the other hand, will be sitting at home polishing their 4 trophies.
