Does it mean that the Spurs want to sign someone this offseason?

Game notes
Prince played strong defense against James, but it seemed to cost him offensively again. He had one point on 0-for-8 shooting after missing 10 of 11 shots in Game 1. ... James said he's not closer to deciding whether he'll play for Team USA this summer. ... The San Antonio Spurs sent a scout to the game. ... Faces in the crowd included Michael Phelps, Lions receiver Roy Williams, Tigers shortstop Carlos Guillen and Kid Rock. ... Christopher Roumaueh of Lake Orion made $50,000 for making a shot from midcourt during a timeout in a promotion sponsored by Rock Financial, a company owned by Cavs owner Dan Gilbert, who attended the game.

Hate to nip this thread in the bud but it's highly probable the Jazz had a scout at that game too.

Why does it matter if a scout goes, that's just smart. We are probably going to play one of those two teams next. So we scout them. No offense at all to the Jazz, I hope they are sending at least a scout in case they advance.

Don't they send a scout to every series that they may advance to?
That would make sense to me. It's not taking anything for granted, it's just smart business sense.

I know they assign assistant coaches a particular team. I think I heard that PJ did the Suns while we were still playing Denver.

Kori? Know anything about this? I would think every team does it.

This makes complete sense. I think that we will obviously respect either team out of the east.

No. It means that they are getting info on their possible opponents in the finals.

Jesus pwilliam. Do you have to stop walking in order to chew a piece of gum?

According to sources...the Spurs sent an advanced scout to the Pistons - Cavs game 2 matchup. Their main focus is to see if Nazr may want to come back to San Antonio next season. The Spurs long for the multiple pump fakes and slow defensive rotations often displayed by the 6'10 Center.

I think you may be on to something. If Spurs and Pistons meet up in the finals Detroit should showcase Nazr, play him heavy minutes

That's funny.

Strange, yet trivial not on Nazr. TNT showed pre-game footage of him clowining around with some other Pistons. They were shooting half-court shots. I swear Nazr drained about 3-4 of them. I thought it was someone else on the Pistons roster because I thought "no way this guy can make even 1 half-court shot"

I saw Nazr at Club Rive when the Pistons were in town.

Pretty cool guy.

I heard the front office was getting ready to mesh its off-season plans with Spurstalk trade scenarios. In essence, they're planning on trading Beno, Barry, and Ely to Detroit for Prince and Billups.

:lol Yes, advanced scouts for every team scout their potential playoff opponents. And all year long scouts are sent ahead to scout upcoming opponents.

I thought the original poster was joking at first about scouting free agents. Right now all they are doing is scouting for the (possible) next series.

Throughout human history the traditional role of the scout is to advance prior to the army to (bear with me here) "scout" the situation ahead.

I agree. It's not presumptuous. Just good planning.

Mike Wells is the Spurs Advance Scout. The Assistant coaches also split up and take one team and do video prep. I heard PJ say the other day that Don Newman had done the prep work for the Jazz, prior to the Spurs knowing who they would play or if they would move on.

Sending a scout makes sense. You would rather have a gun and not need it, instead of needing a gun and not having it.

After the game, I bumped into the scout, he dropped his notes and I picked them up and kept them.

Here is what was in the report:

1. Get ring sizes for players and staff.

2. Reserve Riverwalk for late June parade

3. Pick up milk on the way home....I need coffee :sleep zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Beno is untouchable. Holt learned his lesson from the hit his pocket book took when he traded Rasho. Slovenian dollars drive the NBA market.

Personally I think the Spurs are scouting the wrong teams. If the ratings don't pick up Stern will declare the Phoenix Suns the Eastern Conference champions.

We've enough pump fakes from Malik and Nazr to last a franchise's lifetime.
