I think he is the real deal, but I still like the Rangers' chances against him, they can hit any pitcher on any given night. Or maybe I am just being optimistic, as much as the Rangers dissapoint me I can't seem to give up hope.

He's not "the real deal", however he is a good pitcher, and I'd take him on my team on any givin day.

yeah he's getting rocked a little bit. Sosa and Texeira hit him hard for extra base hits and Catalanotto followed up with a homer

jeez, Dice-K really struggling another homer to Vasquez. its a 5 run innning. i dont know what it is about the Rangers when we paly the Sox. we decide to show up. maybe its like the Warriors-Mavs

Cats only hits seem to be homers. The bad part is hes not hitting much.

dice was pitching through stomach flu. probably not the best game to judge him by

and the Strangers are swept for an unprecedented fifth time this year alone. we are .5 games behind the Reds for the worst record in baseball and we stand 12.5 games behind the Angels for first place thus ending our playoff chances for this year because the wild card is coming out of the central. at the very least we helped bury the Yankees as well by getting swept by Boston so thats good :lol

but, any reason for optimism? nope

our record vs other teams in our division that we have to catch up to,

vs Angels: 1-6
vs Mariners: 1-2
vs Athletics: 2-1 (we lost the lone game 16-4, and got a very lucky win so they are much better than us)

We've sucked forever, Bump. This should come as no surprise. :lol

Dice K sucks almost as bad as the Rangers.

Matsuzaka
May 25: pitched 5 innings despite throwing up between innings due to the stomach flu, and somehow kept the sox in the game with only 5 runs
May 19: 8 innings, 3 ERs, 0 BBs, 6 Ks
May 14: complete six hitter
May 09: 7 innings, 1 ER, 3 BBs, 8 Ks

after a shaky start, hes been damn good

Without that "shaky start", his ERA would be over 5.

In fact, it's 5.17 in his last seven starts and overall he ranks just behind Chad Durbin, a fill-in scrub.

He's erratic. Dominant when he can locate his fastball, below average when he can't.

what are you talking about??

dice was shaky though april and his first start in may. thats when he went to john farrell (sox pitching coach) to correct some of his mechanics. hes been pretty good since

before meeting w/ john farrell
6 starts, 3-2, 5.45 ERA

after meeting w/ john farrell (including flu game)
4 starts, 4-0, 3.10 ERA

after meeting w/ john farell (excluding flu game)
3 starts, 3-0, 1.88 ERA

plus, it took josh beckett a whole year to become effective after transferring from the NL to the AL. i daresay the jump from japanese ball to the MLB is a lot harder.

in conclusion, lets lay off this guy until after the season. the sox signed him as a 6-year project, not an immediate lights out cy young pitcher. for now, dont expect anything big. i predict a 16-9 record, 4.35 ERA at the end of the year

Looks like he needs another meeting with Farrell.

That brings his ERA to 5.69 in his last 8 starts and his overall ERA to 4.83.

pretty much sums it up. his location has been off. theres at least 5 or 6 ABs when he had a 2 strike count and then worked himself to 3-2. tito shoulda pulled him after the barfield single. dude clear doesnt have it today

Dude has given up 13 earned runs(7.31 ERA), 30 base runners and 5 HRs in his last three starts(16 Innings).

Against AL competition, he is 8-6 with a 4.53 ERA.

Guy throws a ton of pitches. Maybe the BoSox should reel him in a bit??
