Wrong. If he gives up those points, he can be more aggressive later. Now, he's out the rest of this half and can't be aggressive defensively in the third quarter either. If he had only had two fouls, he could have been more aggressive in the third.

However, since the calls on Tim were legitimate, those things were completely within his control.
That's where he's got to realize that he may not get as many calls in Utah as he deserves (ie some Jazz fouling Tim may be noncalls in Utah).
Even Tim knew that he had committed a foul.
Wise teammate Michael Finley trying to rescue Tim from his foul.
We'll see what happens.
Tim needs to play more carefully and thoughtfully in the second half.

What I meant was that he has a shotblocker's mentality, he would block that shot 6/10 times (he did it over and over and over again in the Suns series, for eg), and you can't just turn off that instinct. He stops going after shots, he may as well stop playing.
I am a shotblocker myself, I know the mentality. ;)

Hate to say it, but in Utah if those are the only two choices and Tim is on the bench, the far more likely of those two scenarios is that the Jazz go on a large run.

I am not a shotblocker, I am a point guard.
I know what you are saying, but I think you can see my point too.
Tim just has not had a good first half. He's one of the best players to ever play, but he isn't showing it right now. Tim usually comes back and has a strong second half after this kind of first half. It is tough to shut down Tim Duncan for an entire game and the Jazz don't have the team to do it. Maybe the Pistons because of Sheed, but probably not the Jazz.

If you are the Utah Jazz, do you try to put Tim in pick and roll situations and try to generate a fourth foul on him?

Normal home court stuff mostly.
We're on the road. We don't have to win pretty or by big numbers. Any win, by any amount, is a good win in the Western Conference Finals, aka the 2007 NBA Finals.
Stay close, execute in the fourth.
Play good defense, take better care of the ball and rebound well on the defensive side.
Do that and keep Tim out of foul trouble, we'll walk out of this gym with a 3-0 lead in the series.

They didn't have Okur either (not equating Duncan to Okur, but Okur is a major part of their offense).
Spurs have a lot more to be hopeful about going into the 2nd half. Jazz were helped a lot by Giricek and Harpring, I'm concerned if those two continue knocking down shots and winning the scrums.

The refs are staying OUT of this fucking game which is how it should be. There's always a few flops, a few questionables, but this is good, hard playoff basketball.
Blaming the refs is PUSSY

Duncan is going to bring down the hammer once he stops making bad decisions on the floor. It's rare he lets that happen two halfs in a row.

05-26-2007, 08:49 PM
Stupid question, but do you start Tim at the half despite the three fouls?Absolutely. They did a good job at holding the Jazz off, but you have to have a low post presence against Utah or you don't exploit Boozer and Okur. Duncan is the key to TP's penetration and the 3-point shooters being left open. Plus, the Spurs can't count on maintaining this rebounding advantage the whole game.

STFU.
I'm not even complaining about it. I'm explaining it.
I didn't say Tim's fouls weren't legit, but he was also fouled a number of times for no call, as were Manu and Tony. With 2 minutes to go Millsap butchered Manu, no call, next play same happened to Tony, no call, but AS I ALREADY SAID, that's fine, we knew this game would be like this, and our boys will fight through it as they usually do.

The only thing that is pissing me off about the refs is that they are falling for every flop.
Both teams are guilty of it, it's a staple of Jerry Sloan basketball and it's fucking lame for the commentators to single out Horry.
Both teams need to stop flopping, but seeings Jerry Sloan has mastered the art of having his guys deliver cheap shots (Collins on Duncan for example) and flopping, Spurs have to resort in kind (haven't seen any cheap shots, but definite flopping).
It's not surprising that Sloan has dipped into his bag of tricks, but it sucks we're having to watch it in the conference finals.

NBA has totally RUINED the block-charge call. The way they call it now is a travesty. You used to have to earn a charge, these days they call it more often than they call a block. :wtf
As a player, I am appalled by the way they call it these days. It encourages flopping.
Oh, and just for JIZZinSIX, I'm not saying one team or the other has benefitted from it tonight, just saying I hate the way they call it in general.

Please. Refs aren't the problem here. The problem is the Spurs not really playing very well. Too many to's, too many bad shots. I know they are getting hit down there, but that's not unusual either.
Bottom line is that if they play at all like they did in SA, this will be a much shorter series than I anticipated.
Hopefully they come out a lot more aggressive in the 3rd with rested players and a small lead.

Tim's calls were legitimate fouls. The game is being called the way most games are. Fewer fouls committed by the home team. So, I don't see any reason to complain about the calls. In that limited sense, I agree with you.
However, Ruff seems to admit that the calls are not completely unreasonable. And he is a Spursfan and this is a Spurs fan board. So, calling him out here probably isn't going to win you a lot of points.
