View Full Version : Rest or rust?

Finals start June 7th

Detroit and Clevland could, and probably will go to June 4th(game 7) and get only 2 days off including a travel day to SA.

The Spurs on the other hand, if they close it out tomorrow, will be off 7 days.

Will this benefit the Spurs, or will they lose their edge by sitting around w/o any real game situations for 7 days?

I know that the Spurs had a lot of time off prior to game 1 in 99 and 03, and did well, but I fear that since they are playing well, they will lose their edge with that whole week off.

The Spurs played great in game 1 in Jazz series even with only one day off and it was the Jazz who were well rested, who played the first half like they were out of game shape and they took a whole half to get their asses in gear.

I hope the rest will be more beneficial than the rust detrimental.

Thought?

rust will be an issue after 7 days but the rest will help an old team.

Utah aint gone yet fellas. We have gotto win tommorrow night, then we can worry about who we play, when we play. We need to stomp Utah tommorrow, start quick, never let them up.

Rosie O'Donnell is warming up...believe me.

It is over.

I agree, that 1st half will be tough. I have seen the Spurs play when they have had too much rest a few times, and they usually start out sluggish. However, since they are playing an Eastern team, the score will be low, the shooting will be horrendous and the score will be close anyway, so after they get going, they can pull away in the 2nd half.

Oh man, I did it, didn't I? All year, I have used my God given jinxing ability for the greater good of my beloved Spurs and now, I have gone and screwed up.

Did I say it was over, before it was over???? Sometimes, I just revert back to my old habits, even though I know they are bad.....just can not help myself

With Fin's back, Fab's wrist, and now possibly Manu's calf, I'll gladly take rust for the first 5 minutes, if it means a fully healthy and rested Spurs team.

Don't worry, Jim, I'll back you up... it's over.

If the Spurs lose tonight, it's not your fault....

but if they do lose tonight, at least they'll be less "rusty" for Detroit/Cleveland...

I prefer to REST 7 days than to play a 7th game of a series...

If this is the biggest concern the Spurs have after tonite's game I will be very happy.

Ill take the rest, they just need to keep up with practices. They may be a little rusty to start but in the long run we would benefit.

i think that with the 2-3-2 format in the Finals we cant afford to have a bad game in either games 1 or 2. So if the Spurs do win tonite and do have have a long wait, then they need to shake it off quickly in Game 1

We did have the same issue in '05. I think it was 8 days off. They came out horrible in that 1st quarter, went down double digits fast. I think that's when Pop called that famous "polite" time out. They got in gear quick after that.

I believe the rest is better, for reasons already stated here, age, minor injuries, three physical series already, time to prepare for whoever comes out of the East.

Rust can be shaken off and worked through. Rest is vital to this team's ability to go through another tough series and come out the way we want them to.

With Duncan holding both trophies over his head.
