View Full Version : Weird Stat of the Day

Going into Game 4, the two man combination of Tim Duncan and Manu Ginobili had a plus/minus of -6 when paired together in the playoffs. How the Spurs made it to two games away from reaching the Finals with arguably their two best players not playing well together all postseason is a mystery.

In Game 4, the pair was a +19, by far their best showing of the playoffs. You could also see it with the naked eye, as it was Duncan setting most of the screens on Ginobili's forays to the basket.

If all of sudden Duncan and Ginobili start playing well together, the Spurs will be much tougher to beat from here on out. Up until now, the team would make a run when only one of those two players were on the court and then would hold on for dear life when they got paired down the stretch.

Let's hope it lasts.

I would think some of that can be attributed to them both being on the floor during the 4th quarter when we've been just trying to hold onto leads instead of pulling away.

True but in every other regular season and post season, they've always been one of the best combination. This is the only time I've ever seen them somewhat struggle together.

If you discount the 4th Qs of games 1,2 and 3 of this series, then re calibrate, you will notice that this stat is meaningless.

It's a great picture.
Duncan patting teammates on the head is always fun.

Look how exhausted Manu looks!

Rather than draw up a play Pop just told Duncan to press the Easy Button.

Tim is not actually patting Manu's head.

Manu's head is patting Tim's hand.

Such is The Manu.

Well, I remember in the '05 Finals Manu was like a +40 or something high and Tim was -3, so they they couldn't have been that great together.

stats suck. it's all on Pops rotations.

He knows those are our 2 main guys. but when they're together he uses shitty lineups.

Those stats are odd considering the most effective lineup has been Parker-Ginobili-Bowen-Finley-Duncan, hasn't it?

Not true. It's been this way the entire playoffs.

Well yeah one game or one series they haven't played well together. But not for an entire postseason or an entire regular season.
