View Full Version : Who is your Western Conference Final MVP

Mavs<Spurs
05-30-2007, 11:05 PM
It is a hard choice.

Parker jumps to mind first. Tony only had 1 bad game. Tony was easily the best Spur tonight.

But Manu shoot 50 % from the field, avg about 20 points a game and 47 % from 3, plus his heroics for game 4.

Tim avg 22 points a game with 10 rebounds and was a great defensive presence. He shot 58 % from the field. But he did have a lot of turnovers.
Still 20 - 10 with about 60 % shooting with his defensive presence could make him the choice.

Who's your pick?

I would say Tim with Tony coming very close second, and Manu a somewhat distant 3rd. I love the guy, but Tim and Tony won this series for us. Of course Manu won Game 4 for us so... still, Tim definitely takes the prize.

Didn't Manu only average about 18 points a game.

Timmy is always my MVP.

But I'll give Jr.MVP to Parker-Oberto-Manu.

I think Manu was our best player in Games 1 and 4, but overall you have to give the MVP to Tim pretty much every series, just because he's the defensive anchor and he's the key to everything we do offensively.

You're right because I was not thinking of this game.

But, I think that Manu avg 22 ppg in games 1-3 and had 18 points in game 4.
This game, I think that he was in double figures, but not high double figures because of the lopsided nature of the contest.

But factoring this game into the equation, I think that you are right.

He puts pressure on Jazz offensively, and huge pressure on them defensively.

the other guys did what they were supposed to do. I've never seen Oberto commit himself to grabbing the ball with both hands! it's like he learned it overnight.

He's outrebounded Timmy twice in this series.

Particualry, who was the X-factor of the series. MVP could be any of the big three, but the x-factor can be picked among the remaining 9.

Oberto with Finley coming in second.

I know you're referring to all the times Tim was hacked by the Jazz, right?

He's always hacked. Every game, every night. It comes with the territory.

In this series the box scores show turnovers, lots of them, next to his name.
It's bs to me, most of them were hacks that weren't called.

So, people will knock his performance based on those box scores. I watch the games, I don't give a shit about the box scores.

Duncan is this team's MVP.
Always.

Duncan is having his best post season ever IMO.

Tony is all of a sudden turning into a Superstar with every passing game...he's hitting shots he's never hit before, he's being more agressive throughout than he's ever been before.

why you just check scoring? isn't EFFICIENCY a more complete stat?
In efficiency, Manu is clearly ahead Tony, having far less minutes, and that's not counting intangibles, where Manu steals the show.

If the big 3 play the same but Oberto puts in his usual regular season performance, this series is still going. I've never seen one player single handedly reverse a clear disadvantage for his team the way Oberto reversed our rebounding problems against Utah. He was absolutely huge.

TD. His worst game resulted in a Spurs loss and a bad game for other Spurs players - not a coincidence

wildbill2u
05-31-2007, 11:47 AM
MVP? You expect TD to excel in all phases of the game. You expect TP to be agressive and shoot well. You expect Manu to be Manu. All three played within their talents and about at their high average range in the stats.

But Oberto provided a lot more than anyone expected on defense and offense. Without him we're not as good and the Big Three have to play way over their averages. Oberto was the MVP.

Fab.

You take everyone's averages and add them together and we don't win any of those games (except last nite) without Fab. Both games Boozer got into foul trouble, he was on Fab and Fab was taking him to the hole. He drew 2 offensive fouls on Boozer in those games, and he doesn't even get a stat for all the tip outs.

Tim was just plain awful in 3 & 4. Perhaps 2 of the worst playoff games I have seen him play.

The Spurs are a strong well-rounded team. However, I observed that whenever Tim was bothered by foul trouble, the entire Spurs O and D sputtered. So, I think Tim is the WCF MVP.

MadDog73
05-31-2007, 01:33 PM
Tim was the leading scorer with 21.8 pts avg.

Parker is next with 20.2 avg.

Manu is third with 17.6 pts.

However, it is interesting to note, the one game the Spurs lost, was the one where Parker led in points. I'm not saying that Parker is to blame, I think Manu and Duncan are to blame for the loss, but it shows that Spurs can survive as long as Tim gets his.

The Spurs go as far as Duncan takes them. Regardless of who high scorer is.
I know that the team can rise and win when Duncan has an off night but it's still true. Without Duncan we are not where we are.
