You have some of the best talent the NBA has to offer would you say this is the best Spurs team ever?

Maybe. But I think the 2005 team is close.

I certainly think they play the best team bball of any Spurs team ever. Of course, I'll leave it to the really old school posters here to make that assesment with regards to Spurs teams pre-1995 'cause that's preety much all I'm familiar with :lol

99 Spurs team was the best.

This team has not yet won a title.

Then maybe this team will be close to the other championship teams.

As much as I want to consider the 1999 team the best ever, the fact that they didn't sweep a Ewing-less Knicks in the Finals gives me pause. I mean, Ewing did miss the Finals that year, didn't he?

Not before it's won...and probably not after either.

The 99 was the most dominant...

But IMO, the 2003 team had the most impressive victories and was probably the most talented.

That was the best San Antonio will ever see..............

OK, now that I've gone back and refreshed my memory, I declare the 1999 Spurs the best ever. I forgot that they swept TWO series (Lakers & Blazers) and dropped only 1 game in the other two series (Timberwolves and Knicks).

The Twin Towers were no freaking joke.

IMHO, the 2003 champ team which dethroned the Lakers dynasty is the best up to this point.

This team has less overall talent than some other teams I've seen, but they certainly play a very tight team game.

If they go on to win the trophy, they will be up there...

I find it really hard to compare great Surs teams though - I love each of them in their own way! ;)

Yes, but Sprewell played like a man possessed...and almost won Game 5 for the Knicks...almost...

Deepest team, still having Robinson next to Duncan. Ginobili showing flashes of coming brilliance, Parker dynamic but not there yet. The best bench we've had.

I wouldn't fight too much that they were the best - they took 6 games to win every series, I think - but they're my favorite and were very tough.

Ask again after the Finals. We'll see how they play on the big stage.

If this team sweeps the east in the Finals - I'd give them the nod as the tightest playing group of Spurs ever. Oberto, Finley, Vaughn, and occassionally Barry's play to go along with the Big 4 Spurs' mainstays have been almost flawless since a game 4 embarrassment against the Suns. They are on a roll, and if they keep it up they should win it all.

It's the best offensive spurs team we've ever had. The Spurs have never had three truly unique and game changing players on the offensive end like this ever before.

But I'd still favor the 99 team over anyone and say it's a tie with the 2003 team.

99 team probably the best because D-Rob was still a very good player back then. Although Tony is better than Avery and no Manu but we had Sean who was real good as well. If the Spurs can win the finals in grand fashion then we can come back and rediscuss this one.

This team is much better than the 03 team. Manu and Tony are studs now they were just young players who gave you it in spurts back then. That 03 team was young and blew a lot of leads in the playoffs if you remember.

Man for man I think the 2k3 team was the best. Duncan was much more dominate and they beat the Lakers when they were champions. Robinson in 99 was about 70% of his former self while the 2k3 Robinson was about 30% of his former self. Then there is Manu and Stephen Jackson vs Mario Elie and Jaren Jackson. Parker is twice the player Avery Johnson is but not in 2k3, so I say they are equal. Probably the big difference between the 2 teams was 2k3 had a much better bench and Manu.

That team was a hell of a lot deeper, younger, and had a lot of balls. Stephen Jackson and Manu played for that team, and they were damn awesome. DRob still had a little in the tank, and most importantly they beat the Laker's dynasty team.

But like I said call it a draw and revisit it after the finals.

Jackson was up and down and Manu was more turnovers than anything else in 03. D-Rob was pretty shot by then he was running on empty. Duncan willed that team to a title, he was not to be denied in his 2nd straight mvp season. He has much more consistant help with this team and what he had with the 05 team, they were better as well.

I would still probably take the 03 team
Tim Duncan | David Robinson | Stephen Jackson | Malik Rose | Tony Parker | Emanuel Ginobili | Bruce Bowen | Steve Smith | Speedy Claxton | Kevin Willis | Steve Kerr | Danny Ferry | Devin Brown | Anthony Goldwire | Mengke Bateer

It was stacked.
Kerr> Barry
Jackson> Finley
Drob+ Malik = Oberto
Duncan 03 = Duncan 07
Bruce 03 > Bruce 07
Claxton > Vaughn

Can't say this is the best team, yet. So far my vote is the '05 team. They had the toughest road and definitely the toughest Finals opponent in the Pistons. The Knicks were gravy on the road to the '99 title and the Nets weren't that much better.

You are forgetting 2 huge ones though.

Manu 07 > Manu 03

Tony 07 > Tony 03

In Tony's case that is not even close he is twice the player now that he was then.

IF this years team had run into those Lakers...they've have been beaten by them.

It's not near as good as the 03 team.

That team had Manu, Parker and Jack...

It also had a back up PG that's been a starter...Kevin Willis, Drob of course. Malik...

Out of the 3 Spurs Championships team...

The 03 team was the only one that I absolutely knew was going to win a title. That team bore the unmistakeable mark of a champion earlier than any of the others.

That team won every big game...

And neither the 99 nor 05 teams faced anyone the caliber of the Lakers...

Except of course when the 99 team swept the Lakers, but I agree with most of the sentiment. The 03 team beating the Lakers was a huge huge deal, and it makes them a far better tested team than any we have seen since.

Although beating the Pistons in 05 is a close second.

And I don't think Tony is twice the player now that he was then...he was pretty good then.

He smoked Jason Kidd's ass so bad Kidd begged for someone else to defend him...that's Jason 9 time All NBA D Kidd.

And Manu was pretty damn good on that team as well...he wasn't as much of a scorer for it...

But everyone forgets how important Manu was against the Lakers...just in all facets.

That Spurs team is the only team to defeat a Phil Jackson defending Championship Team with it's stars intact...

It's like...one of only 3 teams in history to bump off a 3 time defending champion(no one beat the Bulls, and the Celtics arte the only other).

And it also went through a 60 win Mav Team and even the Nets were a retuning Finalist.

I'll agree with that...

And I think this is Duncan's finest post season....

But this team has had some shaky moments...all season, and it has a glaring hole at the SF position...I mean a true SF, not slighting Bruce here...he's a 2 guard.

Big difference between the 3 championship teams is the rules in each year were completely different. The 99 team was allowed to maul people in 2k3 the rules were very different. In 05 I believe they had employed the zone defense.

For reasons already mentioned in this thread (mainly SilverPlayer's post, even along with Dbreidon's qualification of that), I would have to agree with those who say 2003 team. 99 team holds special sentimental value though.

Tough one...I have to think about it. But the 2003 team has the best series victory ever by killing the laker dynasty and making kobe cry. I put that on the same level as all our finals series.

I say yes.Timmy is healthier,Manu has improved a bit on rebounds and asists, and TP plays the way He does in the reg season(something that he wasn´t doing in the 2005 playoffs)+Oberto gives the team more tham Rasho and Nazr did together in 05.and them Finley and Barry hiting the mid and long range shots when needed.Horry and Bowen are in 07 as good and efective as they were in 05.
So I would say this is a bit better tham the 05 team.

I'm not sure yet. Historical rankings are best done at leisure during the off-season.

But so far, I think this team's players understand their roles better than any other.

The thing that impresses me about 07 Spurs is that they go for the jugular in close out games. What will happen in the next round will determine their place in history. There is one thing that could make this team better than all previous Spurs teams (actually 2 things).
1. win the title this year
2. repeat next year.

NO WAY that the '99 team was the best, are you kidding me? the league was just weak that year...the spurs of this year are the best team that we have ever had, win or lose in the finals...

the squad of 2003 was the best, in 2005 and this year they're close. But the '99 team, no way, the league was just so weak that year
