Don't expect Mavs to pursue deal for Bryant

Have a good time reading all the Internet speculation, but don't expect Kobe Bryant to be heading to Dallas.

The Mavericks' president of basketball operations, Donnie Nelson, said he sees virtually no scenario that would land the Los Angeles Lakers' star in a Dallas uniform.

"There's nothing there with us," Nelson said from Orlando, Fla., where he and almost all of the other NBA's executives are at the pre-draft camp. "We're not going to do anything crazy."

Not inquiring into it at least, THAT is crazy.

I really don't get why they won't at least explore the option. If they demand Dirk, then fine don't do it. But they're not even going to look into it? I'm becoming less and less a fan of Donnie Nelson, I have yet to see a move he's made that has worked out for us since Big Nellie left.

What would be the point? The Lakers aren't trading Kobe, and even if they were, it would be to the East. It's all a moot point.

That may be how it's spun, just like the Shaq trade was spun. Dallas got cold feet and pulled out of the discussions, and then leaked bullshit like "well they were never gonna trade Shaq to us anyways"....I'd at least like to know that they're gonna look into it now that the idea is out in the open.

Wow...and I was just about to admit that even if you did a Harris/Terry + Dirk trade that Kobe would guarantee a championship. You guys are gonna suck infamously FOREVER!! :lmao

Congrats...

most mavs fans are still delusional enough to think that trading Dirk for Kobe would be a bad thing for the Mavericks.

I think that if there was a reasonable chance that Kobe would get dealt, and the Lakers were willing to trade him within the conference, of course the Mavs would make a cursory phone call. I see Donnie's comments as more of a case of "Don't get your hopes up" more than anything else.

I think if he goes anywhere at all, it's to Chicago.

so our starting line up would be this if we do that trade MrChug suggested

PG: Barea
SG: Bryant
SF: Howard
PF: Croshere
C: Dampier

automatic championship?
:lmao :lmao :lmao

I don't think he meant that we'd be trading both Harris and Terry, but rather one or the other.

I'd say keep Terry, re-sign Stackhouse & Croshere, and use the MLE to get Brevin Knight (Charlotte is probably buying out his contract, if not him then Desmond Mason). Draft Big Baby Davis who has lost about 50 pounds and will probably be available with our first pick.

PG: Terry
SG: Bryant
SF: Howard
PF: Croshere
C: Diop

Bench: Stackhouse, Dampier, Knight (or Mason), Buckner, Ager, Barea, Davis etc.

That team still has problems at PF/C but with a guy like Kobe those sort of shortcomings can be overcome. Hell, everyone talks about the athleticism of Pops, if you don't want Croshere then just throw Pops out there.

That lineup is much closer to winning a title than our current one.

Best case scenario in "Kobe to Mavs" talk would obviously be to keep Dirk as well, but if that can't happen, I honestly don't see what Dirk's accomplished to make us want to stick with him when he have the chance to add the best overall player in the league to our squad. We already screwed up once by deciding that Dirk & Dampier would work out better than Nash & Shaq.

now i agree with you. Brevin Knight is a much better choice than Earl freaking Watson. Desmond Mason would be a great backup to Howard. better than Buckner and George
