in the spanish espn telecast last night, the (useless) announcers said that sloan was asked why it was so difficult to guard manu, and supposedly he answered in a sarcastic tone that manu had too much athletic ability, just like mike (i guess in reference to the russell push off).
is this true or were they making shit up again?
the way i see it, manu must be doing something right if he is getting jordan comparisons :spin

Jordan is an olympic and NBA champion, Manu too.
comparison ends there.

Not quite. I'm sure Manu is a shitty baseball player as well.

Manu is not Jordanesque.
But then again Jordan is/was not Manuesque either.
Manu turns and twists his body in a manner Jordan could only dream of at night.

Jordan didn't need to turn and twist...

Anyone who compares manu to Jordan obviously hasn't seen either of them play.

Manu and Jordan have the same level of competiveness. Defensively similar as well...lotta steals. Offensively, they used different ways of scoring. Jordan's athleticism and dunking ability were amazing and his fade away's were beautiful...but, both were 4th quarter demons. Jordan scored a lot more, but was needed to as well.
I think there are more similarities, than not.

Manu is Jordan after 5 shots of Jack, 7 lines of coke and 4 bong hits
Does it mean he's better? :toast
He compared their athleticism, not their abilities. They were/are both freakishly athletic players who are difficult matchups, because there just aren't that many guys who are able to match them in that area.
He wasn't putting Manu on the level of MJ as a player. Just as an athlete.

I would definitely take Manu over Jordan right now.
I mean, MJ is 44 years old.

I recall them showing the Sloan thing on ESPN before game 5, about anticipating Manu's game, and having no answer (it was part of this larger focus on Manu, talking about how he gets to the rim because he's a lefty), and how he's experienced the same problem before against Jordan.
The sarcasm either went over my head, or he was just complimenting Manu's "athleticism" alone as being comparable to Jordan's, about not really having an answer for it.
It's not that far-fetched to say Manu shares a similarity with the the other great shooting guards athleticisms, which makes them basically unguardable, which is why they can get to the line any time they want.
