With Detroit and Cleveland playing the way they are right now, I don't see either of them giving the Spurs a big scare in the finals. WTF is going on here?

flip <<<<<<<<<<<<<< pop

cleveland matchup much harder than detroit

They are both going to be tough. That's the ironic thing about the playoffs. A team can look absolutely shitty for most of the game and then look amazing for a strech and come back and win. Same could be said for a series. They are both good defensive teams, that's why the series is ugly. Kind of like the Finals in '05.

I don't care at this point.
I'm just thrilled the Spurs are there.

Bring it. Whoever it is.

Both teams can defend us better than any team we've faced in these playoffs, and the James matchup could be a real killer for us.

That didn't work against Cleveland this game.

No, they would need to shut down Lebron and force his teammates to make shots. That seems to be tough for them.

If the cavs make it out "King James" will make Dwyane Wade's 2006 free throw performance look like Steve Smith 2003.
Yeeesh..

I think we're pretty much fucked if we wind up playing Cleveland.

Horry likely won't do anything because he likely won't be on the floor.

Seriously, Cleveland is scaring me more and more. I mean as a team they still suck imo, but "King James" is the most unstoppable player the spurs will ever face in the playoffs since Shaq.

Especially since we have no one that can guard him.

Anyone that thinks Bruce can guard LeBron hasn't been watching their matchups.

That is a complete and total physical mismatch.

We're going to end up trying to guard him with Finley...

It'll be then that Findog either earns his Spurs...or doesn't.

I think Pop should take the Phil Jackson approach and just pack the lane with all five guys, very tight zone D. Never ever let Lebron go 1on1 for a single possession. lol.

If the Spurs are as good as they appear to be, they will beat anyone. They can play team defense better than anyone in the league.

Zone D against the Cavs would be ideal. They don't have consistent jumpshooters. Plus, like you said, we'd pack the lane and make Lebron go 1 on 1. Pop's a little stubborn when it comes to zone D, though.

I don't want to play Cleveland... it's going to be the LeBron free throw parade. Plus he owns Bowen.

They aren't as good as they appear to be. And they have a structural weakness which happens to be a catastrophic mismatch with Clevelands structural strength.

The Pistons match up with the Cavs a hell of a lot better than we do...do they look like they are having fun?

Also, the Cavs are filled with ex-Spurs personnel that know all our plays.

I mean hey...there are things we can do...

#1. Parker has been playing at SuperStar level...
#2. Elson might be able to actually do something against LeBron. He just might.

But just looking at the matchup...it's matchup hell for us.

Detroit doesn't have Duncan. Detroit doesn't have a Parker who is always getting into the lane and being aggressive. Detroit doesn't have a punch off the bench in Ginobili. Detroit doesn't have sharpshooters from 3 like Finley, Bowen, and Barry (when he's at home :lol). Detroit doesn't have role players that offer intangibles, like Oberto and Horry.

The Pistons D has been horrible. No doubles for most of crunch time, and weak doubles when they did. No one steps up to stop penetration and take a charge or challenge the shot. Pathetic.

I don't know that our D will be significantly better than Detriot's. I do think that we are the better team and are playing at a higher level.

One thing I can say with confidence is that it looks pretty well like we're going to get the chance to find out how we can fare over a 7 game series against LeBron and Co.

LeBron is great, but the Spurs, as a team, are WAAAAY better than the Cavs. Spurs would smoke the Cavs...5 games, max!

Budkin
05-31-2007, 11:09 PM
You know they more I think about it, yeah we can't stop LBJ, but they can't stop Timmy, Tony, or Manu. Rasheed always gives Timmy trouble as does Billups on TP.

Pessimism aside, the key to beating the Cavs (if we face them) would be to take them dead seriously every-freakin-game. The announcers have made it cliche but really, it does seem like Detroit took the Cavs for granted for some of this series. The Spurs can't do that. Play to their full potential and its going to be very tough, but we still got Tim.
