I know pet questions don't go over too well, but I thought I'd ask before I put money into one.

Do they work?
Are cats afraid of them? (Ready for 'scaredy cat' jokes! :lol )
Are they any better than just regular scooping boxes?

Before this thread goes down the wrong road ...

Yes, I have one. Works well, make sure to set the night timer because it is noisy. You can set the hours during which it won't run so that it doesn't wake you up. My cat adjusted to it quickly, he was a little hesitant at first but didn't take long.

Thanks missmyzte!
I'm never sure about springing changes on my cats. They're creatures of habit to say the least and I don't want this habit to go "down the wrong road."!!!

I shoot cats all the time in my backyard.

My best friend has one for her cats. I assume there are different kinds, but hers is a motion-detector, so it scoops the poop right after the cat gets out and keeps the box fairly clean. Then they just have to throw away the little poop bag. She likes it.

They work nicely...but if your cat urinates ALOT(or you have a really BIG CAT with really BIG MOVEMENTS....), the motor will burn out quicker trying to scoop it up. The urine and litter gets real clumpy and is hard to scoop if it soaks down to bottom of the pan...
Use good litter...

Thanks for the input guys.
I've got 4 cats so it's a big decision.
The motion detector was what I was looking at, now I wonder about the motor with so much use.
Appreciate the help!
