Bowen definitely needs help. Double teams every once in a while, especially in the fourth. If you double all game, Lebron has time to adjust. Also, stay on his teammates, especially Gibson. Play a zone from time to time if they get on a roll.

Good news: We've played a stronger team in Detroit in the Finals.
Bad news: It's still going to be tough.

The team defense is going to have to be sharp. I think we have better team defense than the Pistons and Cavs, along with better individual defenders. We can do it.

If you saw the game tonight, you saw what LeYawn does when he shoots jumpers... he misses. Bowen needs to bring it every night, and stay in front of James... make him work hard for his points.

If he gets by, the bigs have to rotate like they've been doing during the playoffs against AI, Nash, Williams.

The thing is Phx has Nash who is going to pass 90% of the time he gets by his man. LeBron is just going to take it to the rim until somebody stops him and then he passes to Boobie. Lets hope Brucie can contain LeBron and if he shuts down LeBron, I say Finals MVP but that almost seems like Mission Impossible right now.

I've been saying it, and I say it again. Bruce is the man, and Bruce Bowen will step up and show the world who the DPOY of the last several years really is.

It's his time to prove all the haters wrong. The biggest spotlight, maybe the last great shot at proving them all wrong. Bruce may have a little trouble 1 or 2 games (for adjusting and Lebron getting calls) but Bruce will contain him or better to win this series.

The NBA Finals, Bruce Bowen vs. the NBA darling Lebron James

Team Effort. Not just on Bruce's shoulders. When he shakes one, there better be another in his face. Cle will bring the energy. We have to match that and have lockdown perimeter defense.

Most importantly, protect home court. Don't give them any confidence early.

Bowen has his work cut out for him, but as stated here already, the Spurs team D will need to stay focused.

LeBron is a freak of nature. So strong. And he seems to be on a mission to prove he's the "heir apparent." It will take the team to keep him human.

I believe the Spurs experience on the big stage will be the undoing of the Cavs.
They're young and will be star struck even though LeBron eats up the spotlight.
They are the media darlings, the underdogs that will have the world rooting for them.
Stern must be smiling from ear to ear. He got his ratings.

It won't matter. The Spurs as always will tune it all out and stay focused. Once again Pop will out coach one of his underlings. Duncan will not be denied his 4th.

The better team always wins in a 7 game series.

Spurs in 6.

Better sharpen your pencil and have plenty of paper.

I don't think Pop even puts Bruce on LeBron to start the game Thursday. I expect to see Finley on him. If the help defense can't keep him from driving and finishing Pop will switch and double/trap LeBron with Bruce. If Finley can soft guard James on the perimeter and get him to either pass or shoot then Spurs will play the passing lanes aggressively and live or die with LeBrons jumper falling.

Fourth quarters another story. Let Bruce save his energy/fouls for three quarters and then climb into BronBrons jersey for the fourth and disrupt his rhythm..

Lebron will own Bruce they will have too really use everyone to slow James down. He will get his numbers and the Spurs will limit the other Cavs who are not that good anyway. We took out a team in 5 that had Melo and AI on offense, i don't see just Lebron beating the Spurs.

If Bowen even comes close to shutting down Lebron he deserves finals MVP. I'll be happy if he keeps in front of him and contests all his shots. I don't think anyone should be double teaming him, I just think guys need to rotate quickly if he gets past his man. His ability to make high degree of difficulty shots is good for at least one win all by itself so the Spurs will need to crash the boards and take care of the ball.

GrandeDavid
06-03-2007, 08:01 PM
Lebron may dominate. So will Tim, and then there's Manu and Tony. Tim will utterly dominate the Finals, I feel. I have a feeling that due to his great health, age (nearing the end of his dominant years, perhaps, and wanting it badly), post skillz, defensive skillz, younameitness, it'll end up being more a testament to Tim imposing his veteran will on this series than Lebron's youthful come uppance as a future MVP.

Whatever the hell I said, I also think Bruce will do a SUFFICIENT job on Lebron James, meaning James' stats will be there, but the subtle momentum changing plays will be made by Bruce enough to keep the Spurs in contention every game. Then Timmy brings it home with Manu and Tony in support.

WTF is everyone so worried about "Boobie" for? The guy averages about 4 points a game. He got over 10 percent of his entire season total the other night. Do you really think he is going to do that again?

I thought Bruce was great; he got excellent help every time Lebron came over a screen with the bigs (Oberto and Elson, particularly) hedging Lebron and not letting him turn the corner. Bruce did a remarkable job of fighting over screens for the most part and challenged everything that he needed to challenge.

If Lebron wants to try to win this series from 15' and out, I think the Spurs will take that.

Spurs should win Game 4 for Bruce.

It has been a quite difficult year for him : waived of team america, Isiah Thomas bitching, Amare Stoudamire bitching, DPOY snub, an injury, shot off for a big part of the year...

He has been awesome in these playoffs. He has hit some big 3's (he has an insane 46.5% 3P%) and played good D while he has faced bad matchups during the whole playoffs. He has defended PG (AI, Nash, Williams) and strong SF (Melo, LeBron).

Now Spurs whould win game 4 for Bruce because it will alow Bruce to spend more time with his baby and because June 14th is his birthday.

A third ring as a birthday gift with a baby waiting at home could be a great ending for Bruce's season. Do it Spurs, win game 4, Bruce deserves it.

Physically, LeBron is maybe the worst matchup for Bruce in the league (Carmello's right there too though), and Bruce completely took James out of everything he wanted to do. I didn't think even Ditka could control LeBron.

It's quite clear Bruce enjoys his role, which is rare considering he doesn't get a play run for him, and has to defend players that are potentially not suited for him to defend such as LeBron, Iverson and even PF's like Bosh occasionally.

I have manlove for Bruce Bowen.

Man what a bad mofo. He hit more clutch threes consistently towards the end of these playoffs than he has in the past. Man he saved our asses so many times. How many times did he truely make a mistake?

Exactly.

45% on three-pointers throughout the playoffs.

Including the biggest shot of the whole playoffs .... the three-pointer in Game 5 against the Suns.

Amazing.

Bowen has been huge in this serie. Even if it's quite logical that Parker get MVP trophy, Bowen is the MVP of my heart.

Some numbers to backup Bruce great performance.

.356 : Lebron James FG% for the final.

23 : Lebron turnovers for the final. 5.67 turnovers per game.

42 : Bruce has played 42 mpg in the final. Not so bad for a 36 years old player.

7 : Bruce has only made 7 PF in 4 games. Less than 2PF/game defendign Lebron 40mpg is just unreal.

Excellent bump. I think Bruce is need of some major minutes. I hope Pop is just resting Bruce for the playoffs. I know that's not the case, but I hold out hope still. Bowen can really help us. Maybe Durant doesn't kill us that last game if Bruce plays defense on him for at least 15 minutes.

I miss you Bruce.

I said coming into this season this team has no shot if Bowen isn't playing 30 minutes a night, and I stand by that. Mason, Hill, and especially Ginobili and Udoka have no shot in hell of even making Kobe work for his 35 points. If Bowen plays the kind of minutes he's gotten this season in any series with LA, the Spurs are probably going down in 4. I still cannot believe Pop would do that after seeing how badly the team fell apart in game 1 of last year's WCF the second Bowen was pulled off Bryant.
