Spurs in 4. Calling it now.

"I don’t consider what Golden State has done thus far to be an upset because they had defeated Dallas all three times they played in the regular season. Regardless of the fact that Dallas won 67 games this year, one thing you must take note of is that the playoffs are different than the regular season." - Bill Russell

It didn't take the Spurs 30 years to get to the Finals. They joined the NBA in 1976 and played in their first Finals in 1999. That's 23 years. Even counting from the ABA, it wasn't 30 years until their first Finals.

The San Antonio Spurs first season was in 1972-73 (they were the Dallas Chaps prior to that), so techinically it took the SA Spurs 26 years to make the finals and WIN their first championship. They had the whole Dallas thing going against them from 67-72.

I'll never root for the Mavs as long as Cuban owns the team. Has nothing to do with the outcome of last year's series. It has little to do with how classless the bandwagon Mavs fans are. I want the bandwagon Mavs fans to root for Cleveland. It just makes the win that much sweeter.

Yeah, a lot of neutral BBall fans who didn't care and just wanted a competitive series, were like "what the hell?"
after Dirk embarrassed himself, nationally.

Oh yeah, and Jason Terry running around like he was an airplane on the biggest stage didn't win hearts over either.

What would make you think something like that? I liked the Mavericks until Cuban bought the team. That's why I know more about them than 99 percent of the Mavs fans on here. We used to go to Mavs games in the 90s with the real Maverick fans who actually knew basketball and were there to enjoy the game rather than to be seen at an event.

i'll be rooting for the cavs, they are the underdogs and the spurs had it way too easy (yeah, the cavs did too, even easier than the spurs but they are going up against a battle tested goliath in the finals) this year en route to the finals. as for the dude saying we've been assholes all year, whatever, just because we won't root for the spurs, that doesn't make us assholes. i won't be *actively* rooting for the cavs on the board too much, they aren't *my* team per se, i would just like to see them come out and play hard against the spurs, at least make it to six games, seven would be ideal but that's going to be hard for them. that's kind of harsh how the front page of nba.com has the lebron posterizing dunk over duncan.

Don't care about hockey or the Stars.

Rangers are not a professional sports team.

I don't have the emotional connection to the Cowboys as I do with the Mavericks. I've already witnessed three superbowl titles, they could go 0-16 every year for the rest of my life and I would not care. I have no emotional investment in the Cowboys -- if they do great, fine. If not, basketball season runs concurrently.

I'd trade that Stanley Cup and those five super bowls for one Mavericks championship. The Spurs can be a dynasty. I'm not greedy, I just want one.

Cuban bought the team in January of 2000, IIRC. Spurs won their first title in June of 99.

I don't really get the hatred of Cuban by other team's fans. When he talks smack about the Riverwalk and stuff, he's just playing the part of a heel. I wonder if other team's fans can understand that, apart from some of his antics, we absolutely love the guy for spending the money to keep this team in the upper echelon. Only Dirk is left from the foundation he inherited and the team has continued to win. Dead franchise, dead team, and they would've briefly become a playoff team with Nellie and the Big Three, but would Perot Jr. have spent the money to keep this thing going?

I can understand the hate for the guy from other fanbases, but try to see it from our point of view. The man has played a huge role in resurrecting professional basketball in Dallas.

It's a tough time to be a Mavs fan as opposed to 11-71 and 13-69? Roy Tarpley? I see the Mavericks situation as akin to Mack Brown at Texas. For years people said he was nothing but a good recruiter but a terrible game-day coach and Texas would never win a national title with him. Nevermind the fact that Texas is a powerhouse football program and there's also Nebraska, the Florida schools, Ohio State, USC, Michigan, etc. You can't win every year. The fact is that the athletic dept set a goal of winning a national title and they got there.

Outside of the fat idiot in NYC, Cuban is the only guy willing to pay the luxury tax. He wants a title for Dallas badly and he and the braintrust are going to bring a trophy home one day. The money is there, the facilities are there, Donnie and Avery are smart guys that know hoops. We're closer to a title than we are to the lottery. As bad as Miami and Golden State hurt, they're ultimately going to be bumps on the road. Ask a Spurs fan what it was like to go out in the second round every year in the mid-nineties. Popovich, Buford and Holt make a good team. Two lucky ping pong balls in the hands of guys that know how to assemble a basketball team = four titles. One day we're getting ours, and it's coming sooner than you think.

Miami and GS both hurt - but i got over those losses just as easy as i did Romo fuckin' up the field goal kick... but anyway, back to work!

I don't care. The Mavs were and are my enduring passion when it comes to sports. I love them, and as mad as I got immediately after Miami and Golden State, I could never give up on them and turn my back. I dealt with Roy Tarpley, 11 wins and the immolation of the Three J's, I can deal with this.

Ah, the tragic majesty that is the Dallas Mavericks.

Oh, Gee!!

the OP is right, we did turn against the Mavs last year.

Yea I root for the spurs and the cowboys just about equally. Actually I hardly pay attention to basketball if Football is still going on. I drive from the nortwest side of SA to Texas stadium for every cowboys home game and I love it, but man does the ride back suck when the cowboys lose. The only consilation is the Czeck(sp?) stop bakery.

I am a die hard Boys fan and that does not bother me, as far as I am concerned that is his choice. Anything is better than the people who live in Dallas and live to hate the cowboys, they always root for whatever team they are playing. That shit is annoying.

What would you do if San Antonio ever enticed an NFL team to come occupy the Alamodome? I'm guessing that will never happen because Jerry Jones would never allow it, but still, just for hypothetical's sake...

Honestly I think I would probably buy season tickets, keep the games that do not conflict with cowboys games and give the rest to my customers. I would always be a Cowboys fan but I really enjoy going to any live sporting event. Lets say I had to make a choice and go with one or the other, it would be cowboys everytime. Personally I don't think it will ever happen, not because of the city but because of the massive support the Cowboys get in San Antonio. The leauge would not really pick up any new fans or revenue they would just be pulling from what they already get via the cowboys.

That's what I thought. Younger people would probably switch over and adopt the new team but the older people that grew up Cowboy fans their entire lives would stick. It's just not a good market because of the enduring loyalty, not because of any economic or stadium issues. Texas belongs to the Cowboys outside of Houston. And I think Jerry Jones is powerful enough to block a team from going to San Antonio.

Yea some of them go as far as to tailgate every game just to talk shit about the cowboys. I tailgate in the Blue parking lot before each game and this one guy set up next to me for 4 different games last year, every game he was rooting for someone different. He would just get drunk and then yell and talk shit. He tried to fight me once because I made a sign that said "Jerry jones slept with my mom, so I hate the cowboys!" and put it on his little tent. He did not realize it for about 2 hours and when he did he was drunk and pissed. he pushed my grill over and then Irving PD arrested him. The Police officer really liked the cowboys.

Yea I started watching cowboys football when I was about 5 or 6, that would have been the 1985-86 season. My dad bought me a Staubach toy box, a little danny white jersey, and then an Aikman Jersey when I turned 12. After going through the three super bowls there was no way I would ever switch. I have a lot of friends in Houston and personally I think that is a fairly large cowboys market. also my dad grew up in Houston with the Oilers, and was always a cowboys fan.

there's a lot of people in Dallas who hate the Cowboys for whatever reason. Dallasite who isnt too fond of the Boys, went as far as too make this website :lol

as far as ksonn's tailgating stories go ive got a couple tales as well.

i always tailgate on the Northwest side of the stadium near that dirty river. last year when they played Philly on Christmas, i dressed up in a Cowboy blue Santa outfit and waited for Philyl fans to walk by and said stuff like "Ho Ho Ho, you've been a naughty boy this year. You're getting no gifts this Christmas." most of them just laughed and hurried their pace a little thinking i was nuts, but one Philly fan goes "F*** you queer" then i said something like "Im checking my list" as he was walking away and then he flicked me off :lol good stuff

That depends on who you talk to. There is still billboards in Houston telling them to watch the Cowboys. There are still shows on Houston sports radio dedicated to the Dallas Cowboys. There are still thousands of Cowboy fans in Dallas. Even if San Antonio got an NFL team, I still think the Cowboys would have a huge number of fans in the city. They simply own this state in football.

Scary ass shitty people who doesn't even tell us who his team is. He must be jealous knowing the history of the Dallas Cowboys and what we've accomplished. Seriously, what is wrong with expecting to win every year. What, should we expect to lose every year like the Cardinals? His very reason for hating the Cowboys is lame as hell. I love being a Cowboys fan because of people like him and I embrace the hate he spews.

yeah i dont really get his motives. he says its wrong because the Cowboys want to win every year. (um.........)

also according to him, he has no team, he is just a Cowboy hater. the site is not very creative. just pictures of Cowboys during bad plays and thats about it.
