View Full Version : New Contest - Speak Your Mind!

CrazyOne

I think I want to start a contest...

I have gotten numerous calls today (my part-time job is working at a dental insurance company member service phone center) from folks who end up complaining about their dental insurance, and the question usually comes out as, "Why am I paying so much for insurance when they don't pay for nothing?" The two main requirements for a good answer are that it satisfies my urge to strangle and/or call the caller a moron, and that I don't immediately get fired for the answer.

Be creative... I know you can... and thank you for your support.

Prizes?? You don't need no stinkin' prizes!

You put up with this crap during the day and you actually want to read about it in your off time. You really did pick the right screen name.

Okay, here goes... Military dental insurance (United Concordia) I had a crown that broke after 4 years and 11 months and 6 days. First time through they deny the claim because it has been less than 5 years since the original cap. So then I call them and ask them to send me info on my policy. I read the info and find out that if the military has moved us more than 40 miles during that time then they would pay for the replacement. So I had to track down a copy of my husband's change of duty station orders from when we moved here 4 years ago and mail it to them all so they would pay for a crown.

It was the stupidest thing I had ever heard of that they would only pay for it because we had moved. And that they would have denied it because it was 24 days shy of the 5 year mark. STUPID! STUPID! STUPID! Oh well, at least they paid for it. Then it took me 6 months to get my other portion of the money back from the dentist's office. Not his fault, his insurance clerk is an idiot.

Thanks for playing, Blondie... I run across those kind of situations all the time... bugs me no end. The worse one I've seen is a plan that you can buy on your own in California... it's a plan that gives you coverage both in and out of network, but if you just go out of network, you actually pay more in premiums than the plan will pay out in benefits.

Now you see why I hear that question so often... ;)

Do I have to pay more if I only brush once a week?

Do I get a discount if I eat cream corn instead of corn on the cob?

IF I knock out 2pac's teeth do I have to pay to put them back in even though he asked for it?

It's all good man. SW is like a member of our family in here, and whoever takes her out has to stand up to scrutiny at the highest level. You better just watch yourself there pal...and treat her right, or you will suffer the wrath of the forum. :makemyday

Drop the dental insurance and make a trip to Piedras Negras and get your teeth fixed for a lot less and you don't even need an appointment.

Some people are so unprofessional!!!! So someone works for you 1 day, 1 stinkin' day, and don't bother to show up again or even bother to give you the courtesy of a phone, then they call three weeks later and want to get paid for that 1 day!!! Keep in mind that day was spent in training that I essentially had to pay for.

Do I have to pay them or can I tell them to take a flying leap?

Okay, Crazy One, here's another one...My husband is getting ready to retire from the military. When he does our dental insurance will change and our premiums will increase a lot. Our medical insurance is subsidized at 100% while he is active duty but after he retires we pay premiums. Anyway, to the point....Our new annual dental premiums will be more than twice what our annual medical premiums will be. I guess our mouth is more expensive to maintain than our bodies ???

CrazyOne

Dang... that's harsh... almost makes you wonder about the worth of the dental insurance. If it's a PPO plan, you probably have a maximum yearly benefit of $1500 or some amount... it may be worthwhile to compare what you pay with how much you could get in benefits. Some plans aren't much better than having no insurance at all.

But don't let them know that I said that...
