Canst thou, O partial sleep, give thy repose
To the wet sea-boy in an hour so rude,
And in the calmest and most stillest night,
With all appliances and means to boot,
Deny it to a king? Then happy low, lie down!
Uneasy lies the head that wears a crown.
Uneasy lies the head that wears a crown.

Now that is funny. One of the first shots shows the King pushing the defender with his off arm, and I would bet money he wasn't called for a foul.....

Bet we see a lot of that in this series.

I always hated it when Shaq got away with that shit too.

LOL.....Who says Duncan is a boring player...?

Looks like he can dunk just as easy as the "King"......

Plus those awesome blocks.......

Bring on the King......Let Duncan dethrone his ass.

If the King can't win........Will he still be the King?

Or will he just be another "Witness" to greatness?

Duncan excited to wear colors

Spurs forward's efficient game is crucial to Team USA's cause

By Tom Reed

JACKSONVILLE, FLA. - Tim Duncan makes no apologies for his lack of charisma. Call him the Big Fundamen-dull if you must.

``My job is to be effective, not exciting,'' the power forward said.

Here's betting John Kerry does not adopt that one as a campaign slogan.

Duncan isn't out to lead our country. But without question, he's the leader of our country's Olympic basketball team. So what if he plays hoops with the flair of Retief Goosen in the final round of the U.S. Open? The only American player with an NBA championship ring, Duncan is a proven winner who supplies steady production and gives Larry Brown's team its only legitimate big man.

If the inexperienced club is going to win a gold medal, the San Antonio Spurs' 7-footer must score consistently, rebound effectively, defend tenaciously and log lots of minutes.

In other words, play a typical Duncan game.

Just don't ask him to talk about it.

``What I do isn't exciting,'' Duncan said in his trademark monotone after scoring 22 points and grabbing six rebounds Thursday in a 103-75 scrimmage win over Puerto Rico.

As more popular teammates such as LeBron James and Allen Iverson were ringed by television cameras, Duncan quietly stood off to the side autographing hats for naval serviceman in attendance.

Former teammate ``The Admiral'' David Robinson would be proud. As for Brown, he's just indebted.

``Tim is kind of our security blanket,'' the coach said. ``He's a steadying influence and he might just be the best player in the world.''

Two NBA titles with the Spurs. Two league Most Valuable Player awards. Too many yawns from hypocritical sports fans who grouse about the absence of fundamentals, yet don't appreciate Duncan's contributions.

Sports Illustrated's Web site last May labeled him the most boring sports personality. The 2003 NBA Finals, featuring the Spurs and New Jersey Nets, drew the worst Neilson ratings for a basketball championship series since they began tabulating them in 1976.

In a hip-hop nation, Duncan and his Spurs are viewed as square as the late Dave Thomas and his Wendy's hamburgers.

That's too bad says one of sports' most electric performers.

``If they don't know what Tim Duncan is about, they cannot be true fans, they are fantasy fans,'' James said. ``I can dunk, but I ain't no Tim Duncan. I wish I was.''

James provided glimpses of his incandescent skills against Puerto Rico.

He made several sweet passes. He hustled after a ball going out of bounds, saving it with a behind-the-back pass to Dwyane Wade setting up a Shawn Marion layup.

He brought the University of North Florida Arena to its feet with a spectacular reverse dunk.

Duncan's work was less scintillating. He converted an offensive rebound here. Banked a turnaround jumper there. Spent the entire scrimmage in good defensive position.

Never showed a trace of emotion.

It was like watching a plumber install a three-quarter-inch elbow under a kitchen sink.

You cannot live in a house with leaky pipes. Just as you can't erect a solid foundation for a championship without someone like Duncan.

He learned the value of hard work and craftsmanship from his late father, Bill Duncan, who built by hand the family's Virgin Islands home and saw it withstand Hurricane Hugo's ferocity in 1989.

``Tim is such a great role model for our kids,'' Brown said of the 28-year-old Duncan.

Duncan missed practice Tuesday morning due to a case of food poisoning and his absence was noticeable. Spurs coach and U.S. assistant Gregg Popovich told Brown it didn't feel right without Duncan.

``Now you know how the other 29 teams in the league feel,'' Brown said.

Duncan cannot match Shaquille O'Neal for his devastating offensive presence and larger-than-life image. The Diesel has more nicknames than Duncan does appendages.

But given the choice on this team (average age 23.6 years) Duncan remains a better fit.

He is stronger defensively and his mobility figures to be a key factor in the international game where lanes are wider and European opponents like to spread the floor.

O'Neal is one of many NBA stars, citing various reasons, who declined USA Basketball's invitation. Duncan never wavered.

A late-season knee injury cost him a chance to play in the 2000 Sydney Olympics. He participated on last year's unbeaten Olympic-qualifying team, and is anxious to go to Athens despite security concerns.

``This has been one of my dreams,'' Duncan said. ``Winning a gold medal would be a bonus. Just getting the chance to play is special.''

And play he will. The team's only other big man is rookie Emeka Okafor, who's nursing a sprained ankle.

Duncan's ability to rebound and score inside are invaluable to a team bereft of quality perimeter shooting.

If he excels while wearing the nation's colors, perhaps Duncan's popularity finally will soar. According to the Rocky Mountain News, sales of his Spurs jersey jumped from 15th to sixth this season.

Any takers on who's No. 1?

``I'd buy a LeBron James jersey if I could find one,'' he said.

Oh, that Tim Duncan. What a jokester.

Try looking up and remembering what you said about Mr. Duncan ;)

And he won't allow that crap in the Playoffs. If you haven't figured it out yet, we play a little bit different brand of basketball in the playoffs than in the regular season ;)
