From "Davura" from the Cavs AOL board.:

>>Hey -- I did some research on San Antonio, "Gateway to Nothing".

In the North, suburban development has congested traffic arteries, spurring runoff into the South, which does not have proper sewer and sidewalk facilities. Developers' failure to blast through bedrock in the North to lay sewer lines has endangered the Edwards Aquifer. "The developer psyche is like that of a hit-and-run driver," observes one local official.

As development moves farther north, the residential communities south of them, even those that were once desirable, are now experiencing creeping blight. San Antonio's school districts, in trying to defend the quality of education by privatizing, have proliferated and fragmented, giving rise to a number of notorious school reapportionment cases.

In addition to problems of poverty and extremely high rates of teen pregnancy, San Antonio faces a disparity in schooling that could further hinder an escape from poverty. In many of the low-performing districts, neither the students nor their parents can read. Says Thornton, "There's got to be some tutoring or otherwise the gap is just going to get bigger."

Lack of health care in South San Antonio and outside the city is another big problem. The medical community is quite decentralized, with many seeing themselves as scientists rather than as community servants. The Medical Center is remote - at the northern part of the city. In general there is a marked town/gown division between the medical community and the rest of the city.

How come with a population larger than Dallas, they are actually a big-league city? Maybe it's the bush-league people - -like you.

Cant talk bad about the team because when they look at the stats they realize how wrong they'd be. So instead lets take the "Cuban Tactic" and talk about how "Bad" the city is.

I hope more people from Ohio read it and NOT COME!! If their trolls are any indication of their character they need to stay home and roast marshmallows on their river.

Without taking offense or being upset about their comments simply narrow it down to one common idea:

What is the point?

Don't you think you are setting the standard a bit high in requiring Cavsfan to have a point?

This by someone that lives in a place nicknamed "The Mistake by the Lake"?

And if it is so bad, perhapes they should ask themselves why so many of their fellow Ohioites (is that even a word?) have migrated to places like San Antonio, Austin, DFW and other points South. Their city has been on the downslide for the past 40 or 50 years.

Didn't we just pass something like a 500 million dollar bond to make improvements? Could Cleveland even get a 500 million dollar loan? One problem with San Antonio is we have grown at a rate that no one imagined 20 years ago. And you don't build new infrastructure overnight. San Antonio wasn't the only city in the South to get caught with their pants down either. No one imagined the "fleeing of the North" like we have seen in the past few years.

Cleveland, like so many "industrial cities" of the North put their eggs all in one basket, and now that basket has a hole in it that is getting bigger and bigger every day.

Being from Cleveland, I know what our city is like. Knowing that, I would never make fun of another city in the United States that isn't one of the following:

-Detroit,MI
-Newark, NJ
-Flint,MI

Thats not to say Cleveland is absolutly the 4th worst city in America, becuase there is some great places (mostly sports venues and decent bars), but it tells you that after 24 years on earth, I have only found 3 cities worse than Cleveland so far. The city itself is not where most people live. It's more of a suburb town, and people work downtown, so thats why it's pretty shitty.

Behind the times, DAVURA and other Clevelandites?
Those in charge of San Antonio's Southside Initiative would love to sit you down for about 48 hours to explain in detail just how progressive our city is becoming but I'll give it to you in a nutshell since you're so squirrelly about supposed deficiencies, citywise.

(BTW, here is a place to go to find out about the network of health experts establishing city-wide services.)
http://www.sanantonio.gov/health/MAPP/overview.asp?res=1152&ver=true

Oh, on a side note, touching on the current NATIONAL mishandling of the latest TB infection case; here's some more Southside of San Antonio information:
The Texas Disease Control Center for Tuberculosis is located on the southside of San Antonio and is renown around the country for it's treatment and control of TB cases. The national TB centers screwed up their handling and treatment of the latest TB patient (they should have called the southside Center which is, of course, located on the poor, inferior southside.)

Here is some information touching on your expose about the sewer line troubles and the dangers posed to the city's Edward's aquifer:

The Edwards Aquifer is not the city's only clean water resource. We also have the Carrizo Springs Aquifer which dwarfs the Edward's in size. It stretches from Arkansas to New Mexico. It is humongously collosal. I draw water from it. It is crystal clear and free from decade's old industrial residue, unlike the ground impurities that our dear sister cities currently enjoy in the rustbelt section of our country.

Another reason to live in San Antonio, our population keeps increasing, so another higher institution of learning will come on line soon in the Southside. The money has already been appropriated and the heavy machinery are fully engaged clearing the land, as we speak. What's impressive is the fact that a planned community will incorporate that university's ideals and vibrancy by creating a 32 sq. miles in size (only one other similiar project in the US is currently under construction) community to be built with a great emphasis on living-quality, people-centered areas within walking distance with less dependance on driving, the main idea being that a university-style mindset will dominate, resulting in a collaborative setting. That is what you want as regards what kind of city you are striving to create for the future.

Where is Cleveland headed?
I would like for you to list your city's plans if you can.
If your city is getting smaller and less progressive, maybe you could try to copy our city's plans, just like you have tried with your professional basketball team. :)

OUCH!!!! That hurts brother.

I guess we better tell AT&T, Toyota, Microsoft, the National Security Agency (NSA), Wachovia, Washington Mutual, World Savings, Loews, etc, etc, etc they all made a huge mistake in moving their HQ's, regional ops centers, data centers, and manufacturing plants here.

Why are you bothering?

That kind of post is even worth worrying about since it looks like it was half-assed and all. Hell, there are plenty of much bigger problems in San Antonio he could have found a lot more information about, so obviously he wasn't too terribly interested.

There are some insults it's better to walk away from than get all defensive about.
