Ok now let's see a show of hands how many people in the audience think that if the lakers and pistons were playing in the finals that the games would be scheduled so that at least some games fall on a Friday or Saturday? If not everyone raised your hands then you still believe in the tooth fairy. This is total baloney. How many of you that are not scheduled off during the week namely Mondays or Fridays can feel really relaxed about going out and enjoying the night and attending or watching the ball game at your favorite spot. This is another case of the fans getting the shaft because of the markets we are in. remember this the next time a major market team makes the finals and look at the schedule. Yes we're hosting the finals but how much of an impact to the local economy is the schedule causing I would like to know.

:lol, I'm glad we have nothing to bitch about the Spurs performance tonight, nor any particular players--all I've seen tonight is fan nitpicking, and that's fine by me. :smokin

How many people are really watching TV on Friday and Saturday nights at 8 p.m. CDT and 9 p.m. EDT?

Less viewers means less advertiser dollars.

Finals scheduling is usually taken care of before the teams are known officially. I would think the NBA probably consults teams in the running (maybe the four conference finalists or something) to find out if there would be any scheduling conflicts, but I would also assume that most teams who think they have a shot would have scheduling considerations open as much as they could.

Jonny Blaze 47 is right, the finals schedule was set when the playoffs started. I printed off schedules from nba.com after each round and the finals schedule was posted as well.

What about the fact that the Sopranos series finale coincides with game 2?

The NBA Finals games have been played on Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays since 2004.

NBC used to schedule the Finals on Sundays, Wednesdays and Fridays, though, I think they had a couple of Monday games if there were scheduling conflicts at the venue the game was being played.

What I don't understand is why ABC televises Sunday games at 9:00 PM EST time. It's not like the left coast audience has to scramble to get home from work on those nights.

The NBA finals used to be shown on tape delay starting after prime time. I remember staying up really late to watch those games when I was a kid. STFU.

I think Sunday's game could have started earlier. 9pm on the east coast? Why not start it at 7? I see no reason to keep people up late when they could have started the game earlier.

The Finals schedule was set in April and the games are never on a Friday night or Saturday night. They are scheduled for when most people are at home. They are always scheduled at 8 pm central time. This is the best time to accomodate everyone in the entire country.

Remember, it is all about when they will likely draw the most viewership and that is not on Friday or Saturday nights.

Since people on the east coast don't watch anyway, who gives a shit if the game runs after their bedtime?

Translation:
"I'll get ripped and miss work for the Spurs any day of the week."

I know because I did. i fear it's going to be a disturbing trend during the finals.

8:00 pm central time doesn't seem to be a great starting time when you always have an Eastern team in the Finals! I guess they really don't care about the fans in the east because if you're not a fan of the one team in the Finals, you won' stay up that late to watch the games.

And they bitch and complain about low ratings? Marketing 101, folks!!
