View Full Version : the next 5 series for the Rangers
will either make or break the season. none of these teams are over .500 except the Brewers but they arent playing well lately. Rangers can beat these guys. we have two more vs Milwaukee, @ Pittsburgh, @ Cincinatti, vs Cubs, vs Houston.
houston could win two or possibly sweep us, so we should get as many wins vs these other teams as possible. my hope is to go atleast 10-5 in these next 15. because after these teams, it gets ugly. 4 @ Detroit, 4 @ Boston, and then Angels come to town. if we struggle vs these next teams, then the Rangers will probly finish with the worst record in baseball.

It's not broken if they improve and start making strides in the right direction. For a team that is trying to reverse a long-standing culture of losing, getting into the playoffs is not always the most important thing. Getting on the path is, however and I think by season's end, they will be right where they should be.

Rangers score four runs (all wtih two outs, and three of them with 0-2 counts) off of Coco to take 4-3 win. HELLUVA comeback boys, and a two-game win streak to boot. I LOVE the heart they displayed tonight and hope this builds some confidence and helps them get their heads straight.

I wonder what monosylab1k has to say about this. He basically called me an idiot for defending sending Coco away and arguing that he would not be nearly as good if he were still with the Rangers.
Not only did we get rid of Coco, but Mench (who is sucking it up again) and Nix who is still in the minors. Nelly Cruz and two draft picks? I think the Rangers did OK.
Another reason not to try and evaluate trades right away? After a shitty start, McCarthy's ERA is 3.50ish in his last five starts, three of those wins. He threw some nasty stuff tonight, I am hopeful he can be the type of pitcher we thought we got when they traded Danks away.

Did you just read what I said? He isn't a stud in Arlington! He was breaking down last season and even leading the league in saves, he broke down again last night in Arlington. I would bet cash money that 9/10 times he will break down whenever he piches in Arlington. So yeah, trading a pitcher who can't pitch IN ARLINGTON (which is what matters most to the Rangers) for Nelson Cruz and draft picks (which they used VERY well, I might add) is good.

He had plenty of success in Arlington up until ONE POOR MONTH in which he got benched for Otsuka and then proceeded to play great as a setup man and even in the few opportunities he got to close games again. There was even debate as to whether or not he should get his job back since he was pitching well again. They traded him away because of ONE POOR MONTH.
Horrible trade for the Rangers no matter how you look at it. We gave away a former All-Star and quality reliever (along with other pieces) in order to rent Carlos Lee for half a season.
Let's not even mention Nelson Cruz like he's any good.

Yeah that explains his 49 save season. That explains his All-Star appearance as a Ranger. That explains a very respectable 37 save season on a horrible team.
One bad month and he's cursed? Hank Blalock's had 3 bad YEARS and we keep giving him chances....and we give up on Cordero for one bad month....this is the type of dumbass logic that keeps this team in the cellar.

The Rangers could very possibly have this lineup right now, if not for a huge series of blunders and fuckups by managers, GM's, and the owner over the past 5 or 6 years.
C - Pudge
1B - Teixeira
2B - Kinsler
SS - Young
3B - Mike Lowell
LF - Soriano
CF - Torii Hunter? (Smart moves would have left us with good trade bait to offer the Twins...plus he's stated many times that he'd love to play here)
RF - Sosa
DH - Travis Hafner
SP - Josh Beckett
SP - Kevin Millwood
SP - Chris Young
SP - Vicente Padilla
SP - Kenny Rogers
We'd still have Adrian Gonzalez as trade bait for a much better trade than the one we gave him up for as well.
Tell me that lineup wouldn't be capable of winning a World Series.
Hindsight is 20/20 (And even the greatest of GM's probably couldn't have developed this lineup although they could have gotten something similar), but that doesn't excuse our front office for being the most short sighted bastards alive, and it doesn't excuse our managers for being incompetent pussies.

The past is the past, even though yes, the Adrian Gonzalez/Chris Young trade sucks, why still cry over it? I have never seen the point of that, making yourself miserable over shit you have no control over.
As for blowing up the front office, wrong again. When your whole franchise culture is mired in losing, its a looong process to change it. Those changes are being implemented as we speak, so blowing it up and starting from scratch is not the wise thing to do in the middle of such a feat.

I actually am with you on this, and have thought the same thing myself. The Rangers have quietly played .500 or higher ball since he went on the DL, and not all of them were shitty teams. They seem to have some confidence back and by all accounts, the clubhouse is a great place to be right now. Maybe it is Tex, and if that's true, by all means get a trade done.
Rangers were lucky not to lose this one. in the 7th they were able to get Lamb out and i still had my doubts. nice of them to pull this one out, but i am almost positive Houston wins tommorow. chances of the Rangers sweeping the Astros are about as good as me going out on a date with Carmen Electra
Maybe it is Tex, and if that's true, by all means get a trade done.
Tex does create a clubhouse rift. i am buddies with a couple of reporters for the Rangers and they were telling me that Ron Washington will tell the team to take pitches but Teixera will just swing whenever. so that is something that i have wondered if Teixera maybe no longer cares

It's unbelievable what they are doing. It's like the more adversity you throw at them (injuries) the harder they fight.
Not only that, but Michael Young has been sucking it up bad lately. No homers in a month and grounding everything out, including some dp's.
Kam with three good outings in a row! Against two of the best offenses in baseball.
I am worried about Aki, I hope they took him out as some sort of precaution and not because he is injured. I am SOOO sick of injuries, if he is hurt that will be the third injury (Kinsler, Hairston, Aki) since Friday.
I am also excited to see Relaford up. Let Desimania begin!

BTW, have you guys seen CJ Wilson's newest video? He gets the entire pitching staff involved, it's pretty damn funny. Here is a link from his mlbog: http://cjwilson.mlblogs.com/my_weblog/2007/06/road_trip.html

Damn, who would have thought the Rangers' staff would be erasing the vaunted RoSox lineup. With the exception of Rob Tejeda the Rangers' pitching has been sublime. Last 3 games vs RoSox - bullpen is 11 innings of scoreless work.
Watching Gagne going toe to toe with Big P. in the bottom of the 9th with a 1 run lead and a runner on base during these last two games were the most excitement I've gotten from watching baseball this year.

wow! this is the texas rangers team i expected to see out there. a group of fighters who may not be the best team out there, but they'd be contenders and winners due to their toughness and resilience. it's a shame that they started off so terribly, but if they keep this up then this could still be a successful season. Ron Washington seems to be getting into his groove and doesn't appear in over his head like before.
This road trip has already been a resounding success. If they can take a couple from the Angels and Orioles then they will have made a great little run before the All Star break.

I think the Rangers will be a good team next year. Address some areas in the offseason and get more pitching and we could challenge for the AL West crown in 2008.
this is the same team that got swept by the D-Rays.
i think the Red Sox are just letting their guard down a little bit. if we can beat the Red Sox again today i'll start to believe

The Rangers have entered bizarro world - I didn't believe it until I saw the unthinkable tonight - Millwood going 8 and mowing people down, Wilkerson of all people with 3 HR and 6 RBI, and the Rangers racking the Angels, the same Angels who have several .400 hitters against the Rangers, in an 8-2 game.
that Wilkerson thing has me baffled. I guess you have to have him at first so he keeps his damn head in the game... then he actually hits too.

3/4 of the infield on the DL. Makes you wonder. That game was awesome tonight, by the time he hit the third homer, I shouted out "oh bullshit!"
Wilkerson always had the potential to be good but he has been injured so damn much. HOpefully he has gotten his groove back. I wonder what will happen when Tex comes back, makes you wonder...

I was wondering what they're going to do with Tex back as well. With the way the position guys have been playing at these positions (especially Wilkerson), it makes it difficult for me to advocate moving him and putting Tex back at first. I don't know if it's a coincidence that the Rangers have been nutting up since Tex went down, but IMO they should shop him around and see what kind of pitching they could land.
I'm going to the game tomorrow night, so hopefully they don't decide to return to pre-June 14 Rangers. It should be fun to watch and see if they can take 2 in a row from the Angels.

:lol Well, I've been to 5 games this season and they are 4-1 in those games (including one win against the Angels where Nelson Cruz of all people got a walk off HR), so they're bound to come back to earth in games I attend at some point. But if they lose 11-1 or something like that feel free to lay into me...

OK, so you are not a jinx :lol
Another GREAT win by the Rangers, these boys continue to impress. Jamey effing Wright holding the Angels to two runs, Wilkerson with an RBI double that was about half a foot from leaving the park and Gagne continues to show he doesn't have to throw 97mph to still be lights-out.
Somebody pinch me! A lineup with Desi Relaford, Marlon Byrd, JHJ and Ramon Vazquez and a very slumping Michael Young should NOT be doing this. But you won't hear me complaining. :)
Another series win. :elephant

That was a great win. You got the sense that Wright was getting it together when he had the bases loaded with one out and only gave up one run on a fielders choice double play. After getting out of that inning the whole team and crowd seemed more pumped. That was the biggest non-opening day crowd I had seen at a Rangers game due to it being the 4th, and it was a fun atmosphere. They also put on a damn good fireworks show after the win. I came within about 5 ft of catching a bat that was thrown out of the hands of one of the Angels hitters. That shit looks freaky flying at your head.
I like the entrance for Gagne - they crank up the Guns N Roses' "Welcome to the Jungle" and flash this caricature of Gagne all over the Jumbotron with "Game Over" under it. It was the first time I've seen Gagne in a save situation where they do that.

Yeah, I love that graphic, too. The way the team has been playing lately I don't even want them to trade Gagne, even though I know he is the most likely to get dealt.

really? were you sitting in section 18 behind the Visitor's dugout? if so, do you remember a couple innings earlier when the girl got hit in the head with the foul ball? thats where i was sitting.

holy shit. this team is playing great.
but please let's hope that Jon Daniels isn't thinking the way the players are. I think I heard Marlon Byrd mention the word "playoffs" like the Rangers have a legitimate shot at it this year.
Unless this team goes on a miraculous 16 game winning streak or goes 19-1 in the next 20 games or some shit, they need to continue with the planned garage sale and find the best offers for Tex, Gagne, Sosa, and whoever else.

I agree with Tex and Sosa, but Gagne has expresssed an interest in staying and helping to rebuild. Could be lip service but I would like to see how far the team can go with him. However, if the deal is good enough then yes, they should trade him.

I was 4 rows behind the visitor's dugout, and yes I remember the Angels' guy fouled a rocket that went over my right side in the air - when I looked back I saw that it had bounced FAR off someone. I didn't see who because people had all stood up, but that thing took a good bounce. You know that must have hurt like hell...
Then later in the inning another Angels' player threw his bat on a strikeout that went towards the home dugout - I think that's the first time I've seen two players in one half inning toss the bat like that. I guess someone substituted their pine tar for grease.

That's a pretty sweet graphic too. It's going to be interesting to see what the Rangers do as they near the trading deadline - this year they have Tex, Sosa, Gagne, and even Otsuka to shop and see what they can do to set up for the future. Hopefully they are used wisely and not given up hastily for garbage. I guess now we'll see what Daniels can do.
