Firefox>>>>>>>>> explorer. It has great features and is much safer. I use IE for my hotmail and that's it.

Explorer is shit, it took getting a couple viruses off some emulator/rom sites to finally be convinced that I needed to use firefox(which protects leaps and bounds better against activeX crap that crawls into your computer through IE)

Firefox=way safer, and faster too. Try it.

I really doubt the speed is faulted by the browser (unless you have a search engine provided toolbar loaded or stuff like that - Google or Yahoo toolbars?). I would without question though recommend firefox as a browser over Internet Explorer.

If you choose firefox, don't just accept the defaults however (install and play).... take the time to configure it to work with you not against you.... don't allow cookies from all sites (Tools, Options, privacy tab - uncheck "Accept cookies from sites"), instead tell firefox which sites you will allow cookies from (on the same dialog box click "Exceptions" and "Allow" cookies from the sites you frequent (and trust)).

I thought the full version of oprah, you had to pay for. I haven't
checked it lately.

I use firefox and like it way better than IE. And they keep it up
to date when they find a security problem.

WWDC: Apple CEO unveils Safari browser for Windows

Gregg Keizer
Computerworld

Updated: 12 Jun 2007
For his traditional last minute surprise near the end of the Worldwide Developers Conference keynote today, Apple Inc. CEO Steve Jobs announced that the company is releasing a beta of its Safari browser that runs on the rival Windows operating system.

"We would love to grow Safari's market share," said Jobs just over an hour into his presentation. "But how are we going to do that? To do that, we're going to have to create a version of Safari that runs on windows...and that's exactly what we have done." By the most recent numbers from metrics vendor Net Applications, Safari has less than 5% of the market, compared to Internet Explorer's 78.7% and Firefox's 14.5%.

In a brief pitch, Jobs claimed that the beta of Safari 3 is more than twice as fast as Internet Explorer on Windows XP, and 1.6 times faster than Firefox. "What we've got here is the most innovative browser in the world, and the fastest browser on Windows," said Jobs, according to a transcript posted to the Engadget Web site as the keynote unfolded.

Apple made the Windows public beta of Safari 3 available on its Web site immediately after the keynote concluded. It runs on either Windows XP or Windows Vista. The Mac version requires Mac OS X 10.4.9 or later.

Users pounced on the announcement in comments to blogs that were posting commentary in near-real-time from WWDC. "The 'one more thing' is Safari on Windows? Lame," said VoxMatt on Engadget. Others, however, speculated that there was method behind the madness. "Safari for Windows is probably for people developing apps for iPhone," said a user identified as ttagawa on the same blog. "Since iPhone uses Safari, Windows developers need some way of testing their apps."

In fact, as soon as he wrapped up his Safari for Windows talk, Jobs launched into the iPhone. Although Apple will not provide an SDK (software development kit) for the new phone, developers will be able to write Web 2.0-like applications that run over the Internet and display on the iPhone's embedded Safari.

"We have been trying to come up with a solution to expand the capabilities of the iPhone so developers can write great apps for it, but keep the iPhone secure," said Jobs, alluding to comments he made last week when he said security concerns precluded opening the phone to third-party software. "And we've come up with...an innovative new way to create applications for mobile devices. It's all based on the fact that we have the full Safari engine in the iPhone."

The final version of Safari 3 will be included in Mac OS X 10.5, a.k.a. Leopard, when it releases in October. It will also be posted as a free download for Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger) and Windows at the same time.

I strictly use Firefox. I'm not sure what makes it better really but I do notice less pop-ups, and it doesn't freeze up as much. I started using it just as a novelty, but last month I took I.E. off my computer for good.

Mine quite frequently freezes up on IE & Firefox. I never experience that problem with Opera. Everyone of the browsers has pluses and minuses.

Is it safe to have both Firefox and IE loaded? I read in another forum that loading both would create problems like crashes or one of the browsers would be deleted.

thanks!!

I think it's probably safe to have both. I have IE but wanted to try Firefox because of all the raves in threads such as this one. I dl'd and had both for a while going back and forth so I could make a good comparison. Didn't cause any damage/trouble with both on there. The most trouble I had was removing the FF when I found there was absolutely no advantage over what I already had.

Speed-Chrome, Opera and then FF
Security-FF, Chrome
Add-ons-FF

For my netbook, I use chrome with only addblock add-on on it. But FF is second for overall if I'm on my desktop.

Chrome, FF, Opera, and Safari are all better than IE!

This, Chrome is by far the fastest out of all of these and it's fairly simple and easy to use.

I hardly use anything except Chrome. Occasionally some web sites don't like it and then I use Firefox. And even more rarely, there are sites that only seem to want IE.

ChuckD

I tried Chrome, but I just wasn't feelin' it. It was fast enough, but the UI struck me as a bit slapdash or quickly thrown together. In addition, there were still too many sites that didn't support it, or it didn't support it, depending on your POV. I may wait for it to cook a little longer and try it again in a year or so. For now, I'm back to FF with my AVG and a few other plugins. The amount of plug ins and add ons that FF has is really the scale tipper for me.

i guess if you need all those plug-ins then by all means go FF, but the UI on crome is so much more sleek, its faster, more secure, and searching for anything is a cinch. hell i don't even go to google anymore now that i got crome, it does the work for me. you don't even have to search in the tab either you can just copy and it automatically opens a tab to search. plus all of the google docs utilities work smoother on it. it doesn't take up a overbearing amount of space like before when i ran ff/ie on the same computer, so i switched all my work computers to it, plus it works great on my netbook as well. i'd even switch my book over to crome OS if it wasn't for the fact that i'm not always online when i'm on it.
