View Full Version : 1999 Finals
Cleveland needs to get some tape of that Finals. because they need to play like that Knicks team. they were big underdogs, who played with no fear and all heart. if the Cavs played with half the heart that team had, this series would be so much fun to watch. i dont even care if the Spurs win anymore, i want them to atleast put up a fight

The 1999 Spurs Finals team, IMO after watching Game 5 yesterday, arent better than the current team we have now. Or it was maybe because the Knicks were truly a formidable opponent.
4-1
Chris Dudley, Larry Johnson vs Tim Duncan, David Robinson :lol
Latrell Sprewell struck more fear in the 99 Spurs team than LBJ is doing to this team. IMO, the 99 Spurs were better, cause the twin towers were at their finest and were in dominating form. plus, the Spurs that year, no disrespect to this team, still cakewalked through all the good teams that year, while the Spurs this year, got a little bit of a luckier draw and cakewalked too.

Kurt Thomas, Marcus Camby, Chris Dudley, Larry Johnson vs Tim Duncan, David Robinson :lol.
Fixed, since you forgot the two guys that were the primary defenders of Duncan in the first two rounds this year. That team was a fuckload more talented than the Cavs. Sprewell and Houston were very good. They also played outstanding defense.

Okay, there's so much wrong with the above I just don't feel like tearing it to shreds. Believe what you want, but the Knicks would beat these Cavs in six, even without Ewing. This Spurs team is quite a bit better than the '99 team, though.

Chris Childs is better than hughes in his current state, Camby is 10 times better at that point than Z is now and larry johnson was a clutch player back then, not a worthless flopper

ESPN Classic just showed Game 5 of the 99 Finals yesterday. I have it on my DVR.
It's weird watchind DRob, Avery, Sean, Ellie and all those other players. Jaren Jackson was clutch for god sakes.
What's also funny is me wondering why when Avery penetrated and dished, the 3 didn't go up. Or why Duncan and Avery weren't more lethal using the pick and roll. You almost forget that this year's team is much more versatile on offense than the 99 team.
But that 99 defense was something else.

In retrospect, the 1999 team was about as exciting as watching paint dry. They couldn't score to save their lives, but it was impossible to score against them in the clutch. That Game 5 was a prime example. With 4 minutes to play, the Knicks stopped scoring. That happened over and over again in 1999.

I was falling asleep watching the game this morning. But I was also tired as hell after working 11 hours yesterday and then waking up at 5 am because my son was hungry.
