Remember during the season when the Mavericks were posting double-digit win streaks one after the other in the quest for 70 wins and the Suns were the toast of the media with their flashy style as they chased the Mavericks for the best record? In the east, everybody said to watch out for the Pistons and the young improving Cavaliers. Also, people said do not count out the Heat when Shaq and Wade get healthy.

All the while, our Spurs just kept plugging along. The team had off nights, but for the most part won the games they were supposed to win, but really flew under the radar all season. I had my doubts. I'm sure all of you did. Is this team too old? I knew they would go down fighting like a champion if they went down, but I never wanted to admit that there were other teams that were simply playing better.

I clung to the hope that once the playoffs started, something would happen and the old Spurs could put it together........but deep down I'm not sure I really believed this could happen.

Yet, here we are ! Up 3-0 in the NBA finals. Barring a major collapse, we are all going to be celebrating another NBA championship in San Antonio. What a team! What a season! I know it's not over yet, but this is so much fun ! GO SPURS GO!!!! Just one more win!!!!!! I know you can do it now and I'm sorry I doubted this team more than once this season! Just one more win....that's all we need!

Remember when some Spurs fan in this forum wrote Nowitzki>Duncan as best PF in 2006-07 early in the season?
:lmao

Remember when there were countless threads about who to sign because they think they can stop Dirk? Or they can help us beat the Mavs?

:lmao

Remember when there were some who were angry at Pop for losing or not signing Josh Howard in the draft?

i wasn't very confident, i definitely admit it. dallas had our number this year..."had" being the proper tense of the word.

as soon as the suns series was over, i became about 90% confident.

Good post, Dav.

The Spurs are on the precipice of a 4th title, the Mavs are still wondering what the hell happened against GS. :)

Who are these "mavericks" you speak of?

Oh man I sure know I had my doubts about this team especially early in the season. Living in Dallas it was painful to see how well they were playing and the Spurs struggling. But it sure feels good to see SA on the verge.

Spurs always seem to surprise me, win or lose.

How does that work?

If you don't think that is something to still be mad at you're acting like a fool. At the very least they better learn from that mistake, and take more care in letting those chances slip by.

I remember the last night of the season I was pulling for the warriors to win and get 8th seed. I knew mavs would be in trouble. I should have bet lot of $ on it.

Once mavs lost game 1, I knew spurs would get a championship.

Once mavs lost game 1, I knew spurs would get a championship.I felt the same way. Once the Warriors got in I knew we were in great shape.

Up until their road win up in Detroit just before the All Star break, this team just looked they were going through the motions.

But that blowout of the Pistons was the first spark that seemed to ignite the team and bring them to this point.

Gotta give Hollinger his props too, he was getting grilled real bad when he ranked the Spurs #1 in the middle of the season, right when they came to life.

Those are all still valid concerns after this season ends. The NBA playoffs are about matchups, and the Mavs are a bad matchup for the Spurs. Fortunatly the Warriors are an even worse matchup for the Mavs.

coupled with the Dwight Howard alley-oop on that Friday nite before the Heat game and yeah, that was a crappy weekend.

Good post, Dav.

The Spurs are on the precipice of a 4th title, the Mavs are still wondering what the hell happened against GS. :)

They are still wondering what happened ONE YEAR AGO today as it is the one year anniversary of their game 3 collapse(according to the sports updates when referencing Spurs game 3). :drunk

since the start of the season, i was sure that the spurs would probably be shaky for a month or 2, and then turn it around and be a beast for the playoffs, even better than the 05 team, which pretty much happened. When Pop called them soft, I knew they were about to turn it all around.
but I will admit, for a stretch there, it looked like teams had finally figured out how to beat the Spurs. The way they would blow third quarter leads really pissed me off. But now, the Spurs are getting ready to prove everyone else in the NBA world wrong again. Defense does win. Its not a gimmick, or some hip strategy, its the foundation for everything they do as a team, and it is the foundation for championship basketball, defense creates offense, and once that defense started clicking....the rest has been history.

I'm still amazed! I live in the Dallas area and it's so funny to go into Albertson's or one of the mall stores and see all the maverick gear hanging on the shelves....discounted beyond belief! .....Albertson's...yuck! Man, I miss HEB !

I can honestly say I had pure confidence in the spurs throughout the season. I knew this team had the pieces to do it - you usually do when you lose in OT in Game 7 against the former WC champ; sometimes the ball just doesn't roll your way.

Plus, any team with Tim Duncan's got a chance - has there been a season since 98 when we havent been contenders?

I don't think your arguments are relevant. Dallas did have a good regular season but melted down versus GS. I think if they played us it would have been a much tougher series because Dallas is very motivated to play us.

However, now, I wonder what shape the Mavs will be in. I'd like to think they slowly fade and dissolve like the Kings and Blazers did after coming close but choking.

Dallas will be the Jazz of the late 80's and early 90's.

I knew the Spurs had a chance when I saw the Denver game after the all star break. When they went down 13-4 I told my wife they'd be up by thirty by the second half because of the way they were playing.

I guess Dallas & Phoenix weren't that good after all. Good riddance. I hope they enjoy our celebration.
