Do Monroe and Harvey both have votes?
I thought Ludden was only reporter from San Antonio with a vote.

Tim will probably make a triple-double tonight, and Larry O'brien trophy after that...

Wrong. They don't want to elevate Tim Duncan over Magic yet.
The Frenchman will conquer the MVP award. (or something like that)

OK, I know NOTHING about MVP votes.
How many votes? 10?
Do we know who the voters are?
When do they vote?

i don't understand why SPURS' fans care so much about the MVP. the trophy is all that matters.
i wouldn't be surprised if TIM wins the MVP, the defense and offense (including Tony's game) go through TIM or a discount of TIM's presence in the paint.

Up until this point I don't see how anyone other than Parker gets the nod.

He's not American, but he does hate Parker with a vengeance. He's also one of the worst posters on the entire board, so not a good example of what the average normal person thinks.

10 votes. I think (but I'm not sure) that the Spurs beat writer (Ludden), the Cavs beat writer, and then 8 national journalists vote.
They vote late in the game.

It's 10 ridiculous votes for one of the guys on our team that we like. Let's not argue about WHO gets it, lets bitch after about who should have gotten it. Tonight let's go get that TEAM trophy that really matters!
GO SPURS GO

I think people care about the Finals MVP because it signifies such a great achievement: Being the best player on the best team.
That said, I agree: Team play is the most important.
I know in another thread I said I hope Tim gets it; actually I hope it will be a co-MVP between Tim and Tony, although I know that won't happen.

Thanks, Kori. Hopefully, that will be the only suspense for the game.

Wasn't it 6-4 in 2005, Duncan over Manu?
That was close.

Because every reporter doesn't have a vote. There's only 10 votes. Dupree is a national journalist. Liz Robbins isn't - she's a NY reporter. I don't think she has a vote. (But maybe I'm wrong).

If Tim and Tony both play well tonight i really think they should be Co-Mvps. However if Tim goes for like 25 and 15 tonight and Tony is just good then it should go to Tim.

So if Manu goes for 50, with a game winning 3.... is that what it would take for him to get back in all this MVP talk contention? :lol
No... really it ought to be given to the most consistent player of the playoffs... for the last team standing. Were that the case the trophy would go to Duncan. He affects the Spurs effectiveness on both ends of the court.

Perhaps "consistently effective" player. Beno has been VERY consistent ...
But your argument is likely why TD and not Manu got the '05 MVP. Manu played well in the Ws but was not nearly as much a factor in the Ls.

If you're in for statistical comparisons:
Offense: Close with a slight edge to TP
PPG: TD = 20.3; TP = 24.7
Points per shot (PPS): TD = 1.22, TP = 1.23
Points per possession (PPP): TD = 0.98; TP = 0.97
FG%: TD = 50%; TP = 53.3%
FT%: TD = 78.6%; TP = 57.1%
Assists: both are averaging 4 per game
Defense: TD is way ahead even statistically, plus the fact that he is the defensive anchor and the scheme works because of him
Rebounding: TD (10.3) >> TP (4.3)
Turnovers: TD (1.7) > TP (3.0)
Blocks: TD (2.3) >> TP (0.0)
Steals: both are averaging 1 per game.
Intangibles: Even
TP: Some clutch shots and messed up the Cavs' D in games 1 and 2, played good D on Gibson (although JV and Manu were also on Boobie for quite a while)
TD: Clutch FTs, altered shots, double-teamed 50% of the time he posts up which leads to crisp ball movement and the open man.
TD by a small margin for me
