Re: 2-0: Inside the Numbers

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1998-99 San Antonio Spurs 4-1 New York Knicks

2002-03 San Antonio Spurs 4-2 New Jersey Nets

2004-05 San Antonio Spurs 4-3 Detroit Pistons

Spurs have given up 1, 2 and 3 wins for their opponents in the Finals.

They will hit for the cycle this year and win 4-0

Again, my prediction is spot on.

Also the Spurs are 8-0 in close out games on the road, that is an unbelievable statistic, and testimony to Pop's great coaching and preparation.

Congratulations to our San Antonio Spurs, for their first sweep of a Finals opponent. :smokin

I do not know for sure, but it is probably a rare occurance for a team to win 4 titles against 4 different opponents in 4 different lengths of series.

Yes?

I think that is actually more impressive than the Bulls' run, because it was done in all so uniquely.

That has got to be one of the most unbelieveable stats around. Just shows that Pop never let's up and never let's the guys think they can't win on the other teams court, even in closeout games, which are so much harder to pull off.

I do not think even Chicago can match that feat. I am really incredulous at that every time I think about it. 8-0....sheesh

Yeah, we won't even pull your threads where you conceded the title to the Mavs.

Is that the record over Pop's entire career?

Staying with the 4 motif...

There were 4 leftovers from the 99 team on the 03 team(Malik, Duncan, Kerr and Drob), 4 left from the 03 team on the 05 team(Bowen, Manu, Tony and Tim), and um...6 from the 05 team on this team...but the important thing is that it's Horry's 4th year with the team, it's also been 4 years since Drob retired....and the Spurs did sign 4 FA in the offseason.

Speaking of WCF...the Spurs have faced a different team in the WCF for every one of their championships as well...that would be 4: Portland, Dallas, Phoenix and Utah.

You know...that's a lot of different teams and different styles to match up with.

1. You are so naive. :rolleyes

2. Yes, that is TD's and Pop's record in closeout games.

Another oddity...4 different WCF opponents and 4 different Finals opponents....you are probably the only one to take note of that, whottt....nice work.:)

Now if we keep the same trend:

08 WCFs against Houston?

Finals against Chicago?

I'll take that.

How about this:

76-77 - Spurs 10th year of existence(DFW Chap days), they join the NBA.
86-87 - Spurs 20th year of existence, they draft David Robinson.
96-97 - Spurs 30th year of existence, they draft Tim Duncan.
06-07 - Spurs 40th year of existence, they win their 4th NBA championship.

no way they are 8-0 in close out games. 2005 nba finals game 6? 2006 wcf game 7?

EDIT: missed the "on the road" part. i stand corrected
