WOW.............
It started for me back in 1992 following The Admiral, but I wanna share my 2006-2007 feeling with y'all now.
It was announced somewhere last year that Spurs training camp would be in Paris for the 2006-2007 season and I immediately booked my tickets through the internet as soon as the tickets were available. It was a big price too pay for the ticket, but hey come on now. I just had to go!
Started out in October taking the TGV (very vast train, lol) to Paris to hang out with the french maffia over there, shake hands with Iceman and Big Shot Rob at a signing session and attending the game vs. Maccabi Tel Aviv. I was proud to see the red/white/blue on the sides of the jerseys as some of you know it's not just France's national colours, but also Holland's.
Hmmmm, Holland I say? Yes, the other name of the country where Elson and I were born and raised. Imagine this, being a Spurs fan for 16 years and we get the 7th dutch player in the history of the NBA to join my team. I liked what I saw at the game and predicted a championship right there in Paris and as soon as I got home I started booking my 8th trip to the US to go and support the silver and black.
Even during the season when things weren't looking so bright, I got annoyed as much as ever by the people on the forum shouting and complaining about the season was doomed.....I laughed and knew it would be allright as we would come together. It would just be a mather of time.
Tony and Tim got to the All-Star game and I was sad for Manu that he wasn't able to go, but I knew he would show his all-star class somewhere down the line again...........it would just take some time.
End of April it was time for my journey to the mecca of bball again.
I planned to stay 4 weeks and it turned out I got to attend 5 games.
I personaly liked the Denver series best. It was enjoyable bball. Playing vs. Phoenix was with too much emotion to be able to enjoy the game and vs. Utah.........well I was home by than back in Holland so it's a whole other experience. When Detroit didn't make it vs. Cleveland I called a sweep immediately. Not as a homer, but as the same realist as I called the Houston sweep over Orlando a couple of years ago. Maturity vs. immaturity.
Thanks to T-Park, I got my hands on a Spurs home jersey of Elson and I wore it to all 3 games in the Denver series (y'all know Elson's background). I was lucky and damn happy to get my jersey signed by Francisco before game 5 vs. Denver and that jersey is now haning right here in my lil' ol' D-Rob museum over here in The Netherlands next to Rik Smit's, David Robinson's and George Gervin's signed jerseys.
My last 3 trips to San Antonio were in 2003, 2005 and 2007.
Luck?
Nah, destiny.
I wanna take this moment to thank the Spurs organisation for waiting 2 years for David Robinson to finish his Navy career. That's where all of this started.
I have said it before and will gladly say it again:
SPURS FANS ARE THE BEST FANS!
THANK YOU!
ENJOY ON SUNDAY SAN ANTONIO, ENJOY!!!!
