I think the Suns are done. They can't keep all their players because of salary cap and luxury tax issues. They are playing the blame/excuse game which is never a good thing for a team who wants to be champions. Nash is getting older. They still don't get the difference between regular season and playoff basketball... or said more correctly, they are deluding themselves that their system will work in the playoffs.

I think their only hope is that Steve Kerr will pound some sense into them all. He'll have to get rid of D'Antoni to do that.

I don't even pay attention to them. Why waste my time? They can bitch all they want on their forums. Lord knows we bitch on our own forums when we have need. All I know is that they broke a black and white rule and don't think they deserved the same punishment as everyone else. That sense of entitlement is hardly unique to Phoenix. So why do I care that they're still complaining?

Oh, no this guy didn't. Umm ... he did?

I think somebody's projecting. If we're rehashing, it's (a) in response to Suns Fan's obsessing about us, and (b) because it's funny to see Suns Fan cry and squirm. Your team, sir, sucks butt, and will always suck until it learns to take responsibility and not blame others.

Your team had its chance, they lost, and now they get to think about it all summer. We might give it passing thought, too, but only because we are the champions and can do whatever we want.

Here some news for you. Not all fans from other teams are blind homers. Yes losing Amare really sucked but they still had thier chances to win Game 5. If only D'Antoni had used his bench instead of just 6 players.

MadDog73
06-18-2007, 01:26 PM
The only way the Suns could emulate the Spurs is if they had Tim Duncan. That entire team is based around them getting lucky and landing him with the top pick. Without Duncan the Spurs are nothing. Their great defense? Only great because they have Duncan guarding the hoop.

They still don't get it...

It's all about TEAMwork... not just TimWork.

Spurs fans are upset cuz the Spurs are getting absolutely no RESPECT. Instead of getting praised, theyve been scoffed at for their boring play and tainted victories.

Spurs fans have found NO SOLACE in their championship, so they try to find happiness in Suns fans arguing.

Why don't we see any links to Mavs boards? Cavs boards? Because in every Spurs article youve read in the past month, a reference to the more likable and more deserving Suns has been included. Usually along the lines of

"sure, theyre victory over the fast paced/high-flying Suns was tainted, but that doesn't mean they're not a great team...."

Its never going to go away. Not as long as the Spurs are boring. So Spurs fans better just get used to it.

Yeah. That's what it is. We're totally jealous of the Suns... :rolleyes

For the record, I like defensive basketball. Watching two teams jack up shots for 2 hours, and see who gets lucky at the end, is just not fun.

Watching a team go for 4 consecutive offensive rebounds before scoring... that's another story.

Different strokes for different folks. And the fact that San Antonio attracts low ratings is nothing new, and is not disturbing to the majority of Spurs fans who realize that while rating might be down, Basketball revenues are going up.

Huh. Go figure.

Don Quixote
06-18-2007, 01:33 PM
No ... it's because Sun Fan has been unusually whiny/funny since they lost. We've not heard a peep from Thuggets/Jazz/Cavs Fan (escept for a couple) since we dispatched with them. But the way Suns Fan was crying, I for one thought it was worth a look. And it was! Suns Fan will be fit to be tied all summer, and I'll be laughing the whole time. Enjoy your ringless summer, losers.

I don't give a rats ass what style wins the Title. It's about winning the Title. This isn't ice dancing, or dancing with the stars. This is about winning however. Spurs do it and do it much better than any team going.

I'll take a dreadfully boring Title run over fun and 50 wins. I'm sick of the latter and would just once in my lifetime like to be rewarded with the prior.

If you can win the Title while being exciting, more power to you. The Suns, for various reasons, all seemingly collected on this here Spurs team, can not. No amount of bitching or growsing will ever change that. Only hard work, discipline and coaching. The Suns have relaxed practices, are fairly undisciplined and let their PG wing the offense.

Batting 0-for-3 won't get you far.

Tim & co. could care less about repeating right now. We was probably rolling his eyes at the question.

The Spurs are an underrated running team. They can run wit the best of them. If Popovich were to open up the offense a bit more they can easily drop 120 point per game on anyone. And still play solid defense. I don't find the Spurs boring at all. Yes Duncan might be almost robotic at times but Manu and Parker are fun to watch.

They adapt. It's how they are able to win Titles. The Suns try to adapt, but beause they aren't coached very well, they fail.

The Spurs can play any pace presented. The Suns can't. That's why, when things are bad, Suns fans typically expect a loss.

I think all this talk about the NBA being in trouble and all that noise is overblown. What the NBA needs to do is find a way to fix the mess that is the Knicks and Celtics. Once those franchises start to get better it will be good for the League in general.

i love suns fans, my favorite arguments they like to make:

1) tv ratings. As if the number of tv viewers impacts how good it feels to be the CHAMPS! Suns fans wouldn't know of course! :lol How many people watched Bill Russell and the Celtics dominate 11 out of 13 years? We all look back and think wow what a team because at the end of the day all that matters is who got the ring.

2) SA only has basketball. Suns fans like to throw the fact that they have the douche bags err d-backs and the mighty arizona cardinals in our faces. Don't know why this is relevant but apparently having a shitting NFL franchise is something to be proud of? who knows.

Because the Suns trainwreck is MUCH more entertaining.

Nuggets fan: "I hate the Spurs. Damn Spurs. OK, when's the draft? More importantly, when is Broncos minicamp? Crap, I'm late for my bike ride up to Estes Park."

Jazz fan: "Golly, that was a pleasant and relatively satisfying season! I shall contemplate it at length while hiking Zion!"

Mavs fan: "67-15 and out in the first round? Crap. When's Cowboys training camp? Where's the grill?"

Cavs fan: "We never really had a chance. Mike Brown can't coach offense to save his life. Hey, the Indians are good this year!"

Suns fan: "WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH! We were robbed!!! CONSPIRACY!! Tainted!! ASSTRICK(sic)!!! Stern is the devil!!! WAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! We're the real champions!!!!! Start a petition!!!!! WAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!! Senator Kyl, start an investigation!!!!!!! I just lost control of my bladder and it's all Robert Horry's fault!!! And these were new pants!!!! WAAAAAHHHHHH!!!! We should get championships because we're entertaining!!! The fate of the the basketball universe depends upon the Suns!!!!!!! WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!"

The Phoenix meltdown is entertaining purely because of the spectacle of you people making asses of yourselves. Not only did the Spurs beat the Suns, now the Suns, as well as the people of Phoenix, are demonstrating themsleves to be our eternal bitches.

A) The Spurs play a slow style that casual fans don't like (see 83-82 final score).

B) They have a franchise player who doesn't appear to have the slightest bit of a competitive streak, looks like a deer in the headlights when he shoots free throws, and overall has the personality of a tree trunk. Who else, saw "knocked up?" Remember the guy with the blank stare? Who did that remind you of?

C) Hold the records for the first, second and even third LOWEST rated finals in history.

Yeah...don't blame the SPURS for ruining the NBA.

They adapt. It's how they are able to win Titles. The Suns try to adapt, but beause they aren't coached very well, they fail.

The Spurs can play any pace presented. The Suns can't. That's why, when things are bad, Suns fans typically expect a loss.

Exactly. We CAN play a fast uptempo type of game as we were pretty much forced to do last year with the Mavs. The strongpoint of our game is our defense. Why people tend to call us boring is beyond me.

But as marvelous as the Spurs' defense is, the fact remains that, unless you live in San Antonio, this is very, very hard to watch. It's like a car crash, except that people very often find car crashes compelling viewing -- you know, like when they say, "I just couldn't look away." It seems sports fans from coast to coast are having an easy time looking away from this series. The ratings are awful. Game 1 set an all-time low for primetime Finals viewership. Game 2 had a 30 percent drop in viewers in comparison to last year's Game 2. And what do you suppose the ratings will be for the foregone conclusion that is Game 4?

All this is happening at a time when the league is seeking to extend its contract with its current network partners. My guess is that 75-72 is the kind of score that shaves millions off that deal. The NBA is in it up to its armpits, and all the rules changes and whistle-blowing tinkering designed to increase scoring is still for naught. I mean, 147 combined points in your marquee event? I enjoy team play as much as anyone, and I have tried to defend great defense as interesting for the sport.

But I can't anymore. That game was awful. It was boring. No one is watching, and I can't blame them. This series isn't so much about athleticism or scoring or star players or old-fashioned up-and-down basketball. It is, as Duncan said, about some people standing in front of other people. I can just hear Uncle Frank asking Aunt Tilda, "Where's the remote, hun?"

Frankly, I don't think the Suns fans are responding any differently from how fans of other teams would respond. For the most part. I'm willing to give them some benefit of the doubt due to the unusual circumstances of parts of that series, compounded by the general acceptance of self-victimization perpetuated by the Suns ownership and coaching staff.

What's more funny to me than how Sun Fan has reacted is witnessing paid professionals like Dan Patrick literally pouting over it. It takes a special kind of team to turn those people into snivelling little bitches making fools of themselves on air. Makes me all the more proud to be a Spurs fan.

Basically, if you don't have muscular black guys with street cred dunking every other play, your team is boring. That's about what it is. Heck, I would love to have someone like that on our team, too; but we have two of the best penetrators in the league, we are one of the best three-pt shooting teams, we have a first ballot HOFer, GOAT-type player, and we're FING good! Phoenix S0NS didn't impress me this year. They looked like the same garbage team from 2005. If Manu played half as good as he did in '05 this year's series would have been wrapped up in 5 games too. If the Nuggets get some decent perimeter shooters I can see them being much more dangerous than the Suns next year. They already own the Suns on the physical end. All they need is a bench with some Barry/Finley-type shooters.

Congratuations for moving on. That puts you in the sane minority of Suns fans, it appears. It's not hatred toward them on our part though ...it's more like pity and laughter. It's hilarious to see their projection -- we won and moved on to bigger and better things, but they're calling our title this-and-that, etc. And we encourage their crying, for entertainment's sake.

As for your second point, we were pretty mad after last year's loss. But, bad reffing aside, it's not like we were accusing the league of being out to get us, wanting us to lose, or dishonoring the trophy by calling it "tainted."

The only tainting that happened was when Dallas choked and let Miami walk off with the hardware. How the $%&* did that happen?

But we got over it, because after all, we did have 3 trophies already.

I hate saying that anyone got lucky. It insults them, tells them that they won not because of their skill or hard work. Dallas beat us last year through hard work and excellent play by Dirk. They played their bums off and so did we. So I felt bad for them (for about a millisecond) to see that hard work wasted by choking in the Finals.

So if the Suns were to, hypothetically speaking, beat us anytime soon, it won't be due to luck. It'll be because they earned it. So show us the same respect. We earned this title just like we earned the other 3.

Let us know when the 1993 ratings championship trophy arrives so we can offer our congrats.

Now let the grown ups talk, junior.

2 main reasons the ratings were bad in this series. 1) Lebron was not nearly the star that the media and the league made him out to be in the eyes of the public. 2) The Series was just not competitive. Ratings for the 06 finals were an 8.5 mainly because it was a good series. Ratings for the 05 finals with the Spurs and Pistons were a 8.2 and an 11.9 for game 7. Shaq and Kobe star power did not greatly elevate the ratings past the ratings of a year earlier. To me this says that the public right now is more interested in a good series than individual stars. So you guys making the finals and sweeping the Cavs like we did would NOT have made a big impact on the ratings. There is no proof that should indicate to you or anyone else otherwise.

And it's really, really funny.

I think i found a good word for the Spurs...Lame.

Its like the WNBA. The product sucks but Stern tries to shove it down your throats.

"No really....its good basketball....really...see? There's Eva Longoria!!!"

At times Im actually embarrassed for Spurs fans. Their team is just so un-cool.

The WNBA cannot suck if I do not watch it. :nope

And yet I just easily OWNED every Spurs fan on this board. :lol

Also, why IN THE WORLD would you bring up "trailer trash" when you live in podunk Texas?

We should give San Antonio back to Mexico. No one would miss it (or probably even notice).

When i think of Arizona i think of the movie Raising Arizona.

White trash trailer people stealing babies and all.

So uncool to you, to us they are the cat's meow! I don't mind others disparaging the Spurs, say all the nasty things you want to say about them, but in the end they still have 4 NBA CHAMPIONS TROPHIES! Sad, your team, along with 28 other professional NBA teams don't! And there is a strong chance that we may win a few more before its all said and done, so get used to it! :p: :clap :downspin: :spin

You act as if you're enlighting us on how terrible suns fans feel the spurs franchise is....

You're really just like every other suns fan that comes here to bitch. You're no different, you're arguments still center on:

-Boring style

-TV Ratings

We don't expect everyone to jump on board and fall in love with our team, because it doesnt matter.... We're all fans of a team that's had more success in the past 10 years than ANY other sports franchise(NHL, NBA, NFL, MLB). You're going to have a hard time convincing spurs fans that they should be embarrassed.

Oh yes, my fault, the year the Suns made the finals and was never heard of again. Didn't the Suns made the finals in 1976 with Paul Westphal or something? How did the TV rating go in that finals?

Of course, I am sure it was the Suns and not the Bulls who pulled in the ratings, unless people wants to come in and see the Suns lose.

In some way I understand the Suns fans (posters like lava lamp excluded) are so freaking bitter about losing this year....

I know a guy here in Portland who is a Suns fan. The fact that he's a stupid bandwagoner that rode the Bulls' jocks in the 90's is neither here nor there.

He was absolutely convinced that this was the Suns year to win the title. He believed it so deeply that there was no other possible outcome in his mind. It was all "EYES ON THE PRIZE! EYES ON THE PRIZE!". He was completely devastated when the Suns lost and to this day, his only retort is "Tainted. Tainted. Don't want to talk about it. It's tainted." He simply won't accept the fact that the Suns lost.

I know how that feels. In 2003 when the Cubs were up 3-1 in the NLCS and 5 outs away from the World series, I felt the way he did. I was shocked and devastated when the Cubs lost that series. I spent the next 2 weeks blaming Steve Bartman (foul ball guy) and Dusty Baker for his horrendous pitching management.

The difference, after about 2 weeks, I let it go. I barely said a word about it. I didn't go on Marlins message boards and bitch & whine, I didn't scream "asterisk" or "tainted" or anything like that.

Suns fan, I feel your pain. Honestly I do. But how long does it take for you to just put it down and move on?

Yep. Gar Head hit that shot, and it was in game five not six.

That team is pretty famous for being probably the worst team ever to be in the finals (yes, they were even worse than Cleveland), although unlike Cleveland, that series was very competitive.

As for ratings, wasnīt the team still on tape delay back then? I doubt it was any good, probably the same for one of the most entertaining teams ever, the 1977 Blazers.

This thread go's to prove just how much the suns have become the spurs' proverbial bitch.

I guess since you guys don't have championships to really worry about, the next best thing is ratings. Most people who are winning championships, could really give a shit less about ratings and "sports pundits"

I can undertand though, you guys have a lot of time to kill, so gotta look at something right?

It really goes to show that TV ratings in the finals have more to do with NBA marketing than the involved teams. Some of those 70's teams were a joy to watch, but nobody would ever know because the NBA didn't do a good job in marketing the product.
Then in the 80s, the NBA marketed sound basketball with two contrasting styles in the Lakers and the Celtics, then the Bad Boys became the team everybody hates, then Jordan came in, who doesn't really need too much marketing from the NBA itself, because Nike and Gatorade already did their share. The strategy of pushing charismatic personalities who has its own personal marketing empire backfired when Jordan retired, even a player like Shaq couldn't keep the ratings high.
The NBA is expanding for the sake of expansion, and in terms are attracting too many fairweather fans who know little about basketball, and the NBA is not doing enough to educate the public about the beauty of spacing, ball movement, and sound defense. Instead you have these bandwaggoners who doesn't know what an interference is arguing over basketball technicalities, resulting in isolation of knowledgable basketball fans, and having these bandwaggoners only tuning in to the flavour of the month.
But then again, it's a business, and the more merchandise they sell, the better the league does.

The NBA has never had success marketing anything but big-market teams with identifiable superstars to the casual fan. Never. Unless the Celtics, Sixers, Knicks, Lakers, or Bulls are cometing for titles, the NBA is a marginal league, and that always has been true. No casual fan is ever going to care about the nuances of any sport. Ever.

You are more likely to find casual fans who think the only reason Tim Duncan has four rings to Kevin Garnett's zero, is because of a conspiracy to restrain expressive black people, than you are to find casual fans who have any idea what a "soft double" is.

So Spurs fans better just get used to it.

keep lying to yourself there buddy............

Runners-up: Kobe Bryant and Jeff Van Gundy.Coulda-Shoulda-Woulda Award — To the multitude of Phoenix Suns' partisans, who still believe that David Stern's unjust ruling to suspend Amare Stoudemire and Boris Diaw was the only reason the Spurs won the series.
First of all, while Robert Horry's body-check was unnecessary, its severity was considerably enhanced by Steve Nash's arm-flapping-foot-flailing antics. In truth, the impact was nowhere near as dramatic nor as damaging as Nash's histrionics made it appear to be.

Secondly, all of the blame goes to Stoudemire and Diaw for violating rules and procedures with which they were totally familiar. Besides, even with Stoudemire in the lineup the Spurs beat the Suns 3-2, and Phoenix was much more competitive in the game Stoudemire missed than in the team's other losses.

Who else loved the "re-enactment" of Duncan and Popovic's first meeting?
That was AWESOME! Can we POSSIBLY see a more uninteresting story actually being re-enacted? A surely coach meets a boring player who doesn't even enjoy the game that much. Lets talk about their relationship for ten minutes.

care to share a story of the suns of bitches that would be so much fun to watch? can't do that can you, cause there is none, moron.

It'd be nice if all of you would stop referring to da_suns_fan as "all Suns fans."

The majority of Suns fans in this topic (in fact, I think there's only been one in here who's caused problems) seem over it, have accepted the loss, and are ready to move on and look to next year.

On most Suns boards that I visit, 99% of all discussion is about this year's draft, possible trade ideas, our new GM Steve Kerr, how to get rid of Marcus Banks, etc. For the most part, the only time I see bitching about this year's 2nd round is when I visit Spurstalk, or the occasional topic on ASFN. And even then, the majority of us seem to be over it, while there are still a few stragglers who truly believe that we were robbed.

In general, the members of this forum greatly exaggerate the whining from the Suns organization. Though Amare did complain more than usual, the rest of the bitching came from the sports media, from sports writers all over the country who wanted to see the Suns advance. You just equate these sports writers with the Suns and their fans because they supported Phoenix and bashed David Stern's decision. You also equate trolls with Suns fans, but you ignore the fact that every fanbase has trolls. These only represent a small fraction of our fanbase, but yet you still group people like JMark, LavaLamp, OldDirtMcGirt, and I with them. It's really fucking annoying.

Prepare to be owned...

in 1994, Houston and New York (by far the biggest market in the country) generated a 12.4 during a seveng game series..

The next year, that same Houston team went up against the tiny market of Orlando and the ratings shot up to a 13.9 in a four game sweep.

Orlando was actually the league's biggest draw during Jordan's baseball career.

Do Spurs fans REALLY believe the garbage they spew to one another?

Neilsen boxes, market sizes, ABC's poor marketing department blah blah blah.......

None of these stupid arguments hold up to the slightest bit of scrutiny.

Let me clarify here are you seriously going to tell me that the Suns would have meant big ratings for the finals? Did you fall asleep and when you woke the hell up the Suns moved to LA and were suddenly the Lakers? Check the ratings for the 05 and 06 finals. Not great but better because the finals were competitive. Spurs/Pistons ratings were much better because it was a good series. Game 7 was an 11.9 buddy. The Suns sweeping the CAVS WOULD NOT HAVE MADE MUCH DIFFERENCE IN THE RATINGS!!!!

Stern is out to screw the Suns
cuz he don't like the run 'n gun
He's afraid of excitement
That's why Spurs are dominant
Stern got rid of Joey C
Cuz Joey threw out Timmy D
Tell me now just how that be?
Cuz Stern loves Timmy's what I see

And Tell me how the Hawks pick third
It was rigged, that's what I heard
Cuz Stern is out to screw the Suns
Cuz he likes to have no fun
And he protects his San Anton'
Then cancels on his trip to 'Zon
when he Suspends Amare
Looks like a screw job to me
