Denial isn't helping your case. If it wasn't for Arizona's desperation to host the Super Bowl we'd probably still be waiting for the holiday to be adopted in the state.

Super Bowl XXVII was originally scheduled to be played at Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe, Arizona, the home of the Phoenix Cardinals.[1] Immediately after the Cardinals relocated from St. Louis, Missouri to the Phoenix, Arizona area in 1988, the NFL was eager to hold a Super Bowl in that state.

Meanwhile, Martin Luther King Day, the United States federal holiday honoring civil rights activist Martin Luther King, Jr., was observed for the first time in 1986. However, the holiday was only celebrated in 27 states and the District of Columbia during that first year. Opponents across the nation tried to stop the holiday from being recognized in their own local areas.

By 1991, most states had adopted Martin Luther King Day (though New Hampshire called it Civil Rights Day) except for Arizona. In 1986, an Arizona holiday honoring King had been declared by Governor Bruce Babbitt after a bill to create the holiday failed in the state legislature. (On May 2, 2000, South Carolina governor Jim Hodges signed a bill to make Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday an official state holiday. South Carolina is the last state to recognize the day as a holiday.)

Newly-elected Governor Evan Mecham rescinded the holiday in 1987 on the grounds that the holiday had been illegally created.[2] Legislation to create the holiday was passed by the state legislature in 1989, but opponents to the holiday succeeded in forcing the holiday to undergo a ballot initiative.[3] Arizona voters rejected the 1990 initiative to create a King holiday.[4]

The NFL, which had an increasing percentage of African American players, and urged by the NFL Players' Association, voted to yank Super Bowl XXVII from Arizona, and awarded it instead to the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California.

Faced with the boycott, Arizona voters finally approved the holiday by ballot in 1992, and on March 23, 1993, the NFL awarded Super Bowl XXX (to be played January 1996) to Tempe.

Okay, it gets hot in the south, but Arizona's a beautiful state. I like the mountains and the desert, and would love to live somewhere without 95% humidity all year, like it gets in New Orleans.

But it raises another question ... even if the people of Arizona were xenophobes and racists, which I doubt that many of them are, so what? Why would you allow some misguided people to mess up your life?

I've tried to tell my black colleagues in New Orleans this: the whites are not out to get you, they don't hate you, but even if they did, so what? How does that affect your life? Are they preventing you from going to college, getting the job you want, eating at the restaurant you want to eat at, etc? If they are, come get me and we'll fix it. You have no idea what hanging onto this * says about you. It says you're pathetic. It's ok to make excuses...it's human to do so, but at some point you have to realize a few things:

1) every team plays under the same rules. Suspensions happened because rules were broken. Tough shit dude.

2) If the Suns had pulled it together despite the suspensions, none of this would be an issue for you. Matter of fact it would be a source of pride.

3) Any of these conspiracy theories you clowns come up with sound great and plausible to Spurs haters, until you think about the way the Finals went. What benefit would Stern get from "rigging" the system and somehow giving the Spurs an easy road to the Finals? Lowest ratings ever, and a sweep. Think he wanted that? Think two seconds...

Overall you S0NS fans trolls are just sad to observe. All you have in your life is what-ifs and coulda-woulda-shoulda regrets, and all you do is cling to Spurstalk in hopes of getting a wild reaction.

The little * symbol is all you have. Thank goodness you're in no position of power with your favorite team. If the S0NS took your position, they would have zero hope of getting a championship. Understand?

All of us are celebrating our team's fourth championship, and don't care what you think, so quit digging for something that isn't there. Have a nice offseason.

Be easy on the kid. Arizona residents are slow, remember. Can't expect to have a decent conversation with someone from the stupidest state in the nation.
I am not going to go that far about the stupidest state, but this individual just blurts our BS forgetting that anyone can get the information online and refute his statement.

Must be that dry heat.

Please stop trying to inject any sense of reason or restraint to this forum. Thanks.

4 Championships > 0 Championships. The end.

...and Alvan Adams is still looking for his first ring. Next month another Spurs fan will settle in the valley of the sun and take orders from the No Limit Army Commander. Be warned Suns fan :)
