Awesome! I knew about Bruce but not Tony.

Guarantee Jay is gonna bring up the "dirty talk" to Bowen for sure. San Antonio should probably get some nice props from Bruce tonight.

Everytime I watch Bruce (or any Spur for that matter, but especially Bruce) I realize just how humble is really is. There is no sense of ego or entitlement. He simply is what he is and doesn't make a big deal out of it. I love that about him.

I agree...It's weird because I don't remember him before the Spurs, so I have a hard time believing he was ever an egotistical jerk...It was recently stated here several times in another thread.

Wow. Bruce is so well spoken. He never makes glaring grammatical errors, or pauses a lot with "umms" .. "likkeeee." He's an amazing speaker.

EDIT:

Bruce is the total opposite of Shawn Marion when it comes to speaking English.

I remember watching Letterman when the Dallas Cowboys were winning all those superbowls. Everytime they won a super bowl he would have the MVP on the show and I would make sure to watch. He caught passes from Troy Aikman or gave handoffs to Emmitt Smith. He even ran routes against Larry Brown and then tried to cover Larry Brown later on. I thought those were always kinda stupid, but really fun at the same time. Why no love for Bruce? They could have set up a mini-basketball hoop and had Jay try and score on Bruce. It would have been really funny. Oh well...

Clutch20
06-19-2007, 11:50 PM
Bruce did fine the first minute, then next he was open and candid, after that you could see in his eyes that playfulness start to show and Jay would have had to play a tight game of tag with Bruce if his segment had gone on any longer!

Marcus Bryant
06-19-2007, 11:53 PM
....and then Bruce thanked the assistant to the traveling equipment manager.

Kori Ellis
06-19-2007, 11:55 PM
I thought Bruce was awesome. He gave initial thanks to the blessings of his wife and children, mentioning that those kind of things are more important than basketball. Explained about Ozmel being born during the Finals. Talk a little bit of basketball, the humble Spurs and how NBA players are blessed that get a lot of money to play a game. Mentioned very briefly about his bad childhood without getting too into the details, thanked the all the appropriate people.

Very nice interview.

Way to represent the team, classy interview all the way. And he was very sociable, no awkwardness. I was actually glad how honest he was about how he has a grounded view about his job, the rings, etc. He can see it through a larger perspective.

It was a very classy interview. Bruce looks very handsome in a suit. Then again, I think he's pretty handsome in general.

Seemed really short, though. What was with the joking about Bruce wanting to be on the show before? Anyone know the backstory?

Any other Spurs making any appearances? I was bummed I missed Parker on Letterman. Manu should go on, somewhere. I know Tim would never do it.

It was during that segment Leno ran on Game 1 of the Finals. They had a 'correspondent' for media day --an old lady. She interviewed Bruce and Bruce told Jay he wanted an interview at the studio.

I stayed very alte to catch it and thought it was a great interview. I thought Bruce was funny and personable and touching. I love that Michael Chicklis seemed so into listening to him and congratulating him. It was great to see a BB player not pimping his shoes or clothes or hyping his own celebrity, but being humble and grateful.

Classy interview, indeed.

Guys... be honest... Bruce didn't really do a good job...

He didn't let Jay lead him into questions... He talked like everyone knew what the deal was with his childhood... but never said what the "hardship" was...

Very frustrating for Jay I'm sure...

I will tell you like what I told my friends be thankful that he was even on Jay Leno stupido :toast

plus I don't think he wanted to play the pity act by revealing to much of his hardship childhood maybe he wanted to keep some of it to himself and not reveal a lot of his private life plus chiklis took up most of the time and jay also did 'jaywalking' which left Bruce with not much time

I'm pretty sure the audience wanted to know, but Bruce spared them the personal details. I still think Bruce's moment, was when he described the Spurs "quiet dynasty" and how they don't really do any of that shit that turns off the marginal fans of the NBA.

Bruce does tend to talk a lot and babble a little. But I thought he was fine, wasn't nervous (or blank), very sociable.

Umm... Jay probably should have asked Bowen ahead of time if he wanted to discuss his mom's crack problems and other family estrangements. In such a joyous time of his life, maybe he just didn't want to get into stuff like that.

I took it as him not trying to play the sympathy card. Because he also added that a lot of people go through rough times, and that his story was one of many in the NBA. He did great IMO.

That's exactly my take. I think Bruce was gracious in not going into details and further, turning it into an opportunity to point out that there are many children growing up in the same circumstances.
