Can You smell the desperation?
A Rasmussen poll of likely Republican primary voters released Tuesday shows actor and former Sen. Fred Thompson (Tenn.) leading the GOP presidential field for the first time.
Thompson, who has not officially announced that he is running but will likely do so next month, garnered 28% support, edging out former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, who was the choice of 27% of respondents.
In the past three weeks, Thompson’s numbers in the Rasmussen poll have soared. He was at 12% in a May 29 survey.
Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney and Sen. John McCain (Ariz.) each received 10%. It was McCain’s weakest showing to date in the Rasmussen survey.
The Hill (http://thehill.com/leading-the-news/first-poll-shows-thompson-leading-gop-field-2007-06-19.html)
Thompson lacks depth, and he is not strong on policy, just on media soundbites.
McCain is going nowhere, and he may drop out after New Hampshire or there-after.
Rudy will never be nominated by the GOP base, and they won't vote for a Libertarian named Paul either.
All the others are even loonier - Welcome to the 08 GOP! :elephant
