http://www.euroleague.net/competition/players/showplayer?clubcode=csk&pcode=ALC

205 cm and 112kg (6'9 and 247)

A repeated champion in Europe. (won with 2 diferent teams)

Can offensively play 3 or 4 and defensively 3,4 or even 5.

He is tough (phisically and mentally) and can knock down threes.

He could be an imidiate impact and isnt too slow. He isnt an awsome rebounder though but has a high basketball IQ imo.

Maybe try getting him if Oberto goes for $$$ to some other team.

I agree. Smodis is one of my favourite players in euroleague. He is really hard worker and team player who will do the dirtywork for you. Great defender and he has good range and some nice post moves.

He is 27 years old.

I am not sure why he never went to the NBA (or the draft).

He never craved for it too much i guess. He just achieved everything he could in Europe.

He was a respected player and a very succesful (and well paid) over here so i guess he did not feel the need.

How old do you have to be so you are able to avoid draft? (like Garbajosa or Oberto)

When you turn 22 you are automatically eligible for the draft. If nobody takes you then you simply are a free agent (a la Nocioni, Oberto, Papaloukas, Garbajosa, etc...)

and if you never sign up for draft? you can sign as a free agent at the age of 22?

btw.... he will play in Spain this summer

i am extremely excited about this because Slovene NT needs someone like him to lead

Rasho is a nice guy but saying a leader (and he supposed to be that last few years) and his name in the same sentence is a crime if you ask me :nope

Injury prone. Chronic back problems.

Injury prone. Chronic back problems.

that lowers his worth but he would still be a great addition

he wouldnt be playing 40 minutes a game anyways :p:

He sure wouldn't be playing 82 games either.

Rasho played 82 games and then sucked in each playoffs.

You prefer that? :toast

He is a champion and a fighter. Even if he is injured some of the regular season it doesnt matter that much. (his salary would be lower accordingly because everyone knows of his problems)

Mavs won 170 or something games this year and look where it brought them :devil

That is great to hear. But nevertheless... Smodis would be a good adition and he is not probably all that expensive. He would be earning his salary.

Btw... Does anyone knows how much he earns playing for CSKA?

Obviously he wants to repeat.

Is Oberto the second Argentinian to win the NBA title?

Oberto's not going anywhere. Im sure the Spurs will give the guy a decent raise and he will stay (probably just to play along side Manu). If he wants the biggie bucks though he can walk.

He will probably be willing to take a little pay cut (to what he could get elsewhere) to stay here.

What best way is to come to the NBA and win a championship imidiately (and being a actual part of wining it)

Rasho was a leader (we qualified for the Olympics).

Smodis is a sort of 3pt Scola. Does all the team work and can be a lethal shooter. A big game kind of a player. He is not too tall and relied mostly on his weight in his early career. Now he is lighter and less injury prone. This season he was the reason CSKA did so great in the regular season. He isn't a good center as he just to be.

Rasho was a leader (we qualified for the Olympics).

a leader has to be an on court and off court leader

he isnt very good at either of those things

or better said.... i believe Smodiš will be better

Oberto won't leave. He is a team player who played well this year and now fits in and Manu being here long term helps a lot too.

Doesn't Smodis make like 1 million euros? I doubt he would take less to play in the NBA, which I think would make him expensive for the Spurs.

2 million $ for Smodis would be a bargain in my opinion

experienced, hard woorking, can hit the 3pt consistently, could play some minutes at 3,4 and 5 spots

and he has a warrior heart

I will to find some past interwievs with him so i see if he mentions NBA anywhere.
