I love this guy. As a Spur? Not sure. But as a player and person, he looks good.

He's definitely a floor spacer. Hey, Michael Redd fell into the second fucking round with about this skill set.

If he slips to 28 hes hard to pass up. Not a skill set you see go by you everyday with such a late pick.

Someone compared him to Corey Maggette. Almond may not be the athlete and slasher, but gets to line a whole lot and makes 'em all. He's a much better shooter and may have a better basketball head.

IMO he reminds me of a second gen Michael finley.

Draft him if he falls!!!

I would love to see him sitting at 27 when Detroit drafts.

DraftExpress.com Podcast with Almond (http://www.sigdomain.com/draftexpress_4.mp3)

He sounds like a good kid. Even mentions how he could fit a role with a team like the Spurs. Almond at 28 would be rather nice.

Foxsports (as reliable as they are) currently have San Antonio selecting him...

I think he's the ideal pick for you all at #28.

Him or Byars.

But hopefully the Pistons take whichever one is still on the board before you!

Hes been my boy since the talk of the draft started back in the first round against Denver.

The guy can shoot, hes long, seems willing to learn.

Hes got Spur written all over him...

Almond is my #2 choice for our pick at 28 (after Gabe Pruitt). He fits the Spurs mold perhaps better than any player in this draft.

there were also some very weird comparisons on different mocks. (Matt Barnes, Devean George, Kevin Martin). i think Redd is a accurate comparison.
the best NBA comparison that comes to my mind is Anthony Parker.

if we end up with him I would be find.
(Almond at 28: very nice pick. Almond at 33: great pick)

Morris Almond = Corey Maggette

Without the character issues.....

A solid pick at #28, but he might be gone before then.

Mr. Body

The Maggette comparison came due to his 1) strength and build, and 2) ability to get to the line 10+ times a game (in NCAAs).

If he is still there at 28, I vote for this guy!!

Seems like a solid SG/SF for Spurs. I'm interested to see what the Spurs do this year.

I have a generally hypothetical question. Here are the facts in this study:

1) One of either Michael Finley or Brent Barry will be gone next year
2) You can draft either Marco Belinelli, Derrick Byars, Morris Almond, Aaron Afflalo, Jared Dudley or Alando Tucker with the 28 but the front office is deadset on taking a PG with the 33.
3) Rudy Fernandez is not available

Who do you draft?

Brandon Rush! Eh, no. That's not a bad situation to be in. I'm down to Byars or Almond. After some thought, I'd have to take Byars.

Although to be fair, my best friends little brother goes to Rice, and he gave me a heads up on him

I would love to have him, my only question is how much playing time would he get his first year with Manu, Fin and Brent, not to mention James White

Dammit, and Bruce, how could i forget Bruce?

Considering only one of those four players is a sure thing to come back, I'm guessing he will get some decent minutes if the Spurs get him (probably Barry's, maybe Fin's, too).

Belinelli has to be out because he's the farthest away from contributing, but I would actually make him first choice in that group if you didn't have stipulation #1.

Of the remaining guys, I would have to say:

1. Almond
2. Byars
3. Afflalo
4. Dudley
5. Tucker

But I don't think the talent gap between them is exceptionally great and they all seem to be very good "character", "team" guys...

Nice writeup.

I don't think he gets past the Jazz at 25. He's exactly what the Jazz are missing.

I've half convinced myself Utah would take Arron Afflalo, but yeah, Almond probably is the better pick.

I used to have him going to Houston, but they need size now that they traded away Juwon Howard (I have them taking Fazekas).

Byars is another guy that could go to Utah, so I think there's a chance that Almond slips to #28. Honestly though, I have Almond going to the Pistons at #27 who need some "umph" off the bench, and having lost Delfino, this is a guy that could give it.

Still, he'd make the Spurs' draft board intriguing if he was still there at #28...

Exactly. I have a very hard time believing that the Pistons would pass on him if he's available at 27.
