Lets keep this thread alive with new releases and stuff to watch out for.

I just picked up Sage Francis "Human the Death Dance" and its amazing. This one is on par with "Personal Journals". I was hesitant to pick this up as I didn't care too much for "A Healthy Distrust" but this could be his best album yet. I also got to see him live again recently, and was reminded how much I liked his work. Well worth the ten bucks on itunes.

Here's a link to the album:

http://www.amazon.com/Human-Death-Dance-Sage-Francis/dp/B000OMD4D4/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/102-8419718-8598548?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1182569085&sr=1-1

And here's a link to a video with Jolie Holland.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/mpd/permalink/3279:3276 (http://www.amazon.com/gp/mpd/permalink/3279:3276/102-8419718-8598548)

----------------------------------------------

If any of you are El-P fans, he's got a new album out as well "I'll Sleep When You're Dead". Not everyone likes El-P, but if you do, check out this album. Very different from "Fantastic Damage" but just as creative.

----------------------------------------------

I mentioned it before, but this one needs to be put in here again. Brother Ali "The Undisputed Truth". Unfuckingbelievable album. One of the best of 2007, easily. Beats, lyrics, and production are all on point.

Lee, if you like YNQ, I'd recommend checking out Wax Tailor. Just picked up his second album a month ago (first album never left the six disc changer in the car, and I'd always skip to that disc). Wax Tailor's new album is a work of art. "Hope and Sorrow" will be enjoyed by people with a wide variety of musical tastes. I don't know really how to explain the album......triphop/hiphop/jazz/acidjazz/turntablism? But, its a mixture of all, and it something special. Definitely check it out.

Got a few songs of Aesop Rock's new album and I CAN NOT WAIT FOR IT TO BE RELEASED!!! This album sound much more like his older works (beat wise) and doesn't have the same feel as Bazooka Tooth, thankfully. I'll be at his CD release show and I'll let you know how the entire album is.

That second track is amazing, just as I had expected. Cunninlynguists are far beyond any other group right now and their albums not only never disappoint, but exceed expectations.

Phil, does Kno rap on this one or did he stick to production much like on "a piece of strange"? Does tonedeff make any guest appearances?

i can check it, but i doubt the site i get stuff from would allow something with extra sound like that to be allowed. they have very strict criteria for what is allowed on there, people get banned for pre-advance overdubbed stuff like that. it's been on there for a couple weeks, but i'll check the comments before i get it.

Wu-Tang is the group that originally got me into hip hop when I was in High School. These guys can do no wrong in my eyes.

I agree. Someone told me that they have recorded between 40-50 songs and have now chosen 14 to be on the CD.

This could seriously be the first CD I've purchased in the last three years.

8 Diagrams will feature eight of the Clan's original nine members: RZA, GZA, Inspectah Deck, Raekwon, U-God, Ghostface Killah, Method Man and Masta Killa. The album will feature previously recorded material from ODB, the ninth member, as well as a tribute track titled "Life Changes".
wikipedia has some info. mathematics and rza are both credited with producing a lot of the tracks, so it should be solid beatwise.

Check the song "smoke em if you got um" featuring Aesop Rock. Just pay the .99 cents on itunes you cheap bastards. These two together are unreal. If they ever make an entire album together it would be absolutely amazing. They've already collabed on a couple now so I wouldn't be surprised.

I've listened to Rob Sonic since he was with Sonic Sum, hence my screen name, The Sanity Annex. I really wish he'd get back to the beats he first started on with Sonic Sum. Much more mellow and I feel they complimented his flow better. Still though, the guy is like no one else I've ever heard and no matter what beat he's on, it's gonna be sick. "Spyhunter feat. Busdriver" is insane.

Did you pick up "Telicatessen"? Rob did all the his own beats on that album, all digital. Pretting interesting story behind that album.

I've heard you mention it multiple times. It's a good album, but for me personally, Talib on that album doesn't change it up enough. And his voice has always sounded a bit whiny to me. I'm waiting for Mos Def's new album to be finished. He released Black Magic and there are a lot of good and a lot of bad songs on that. I heard that was just a preview to his new album with some of those same tracks being kept.

Brother Ali was a 10/10 from start to finish.

Yea it is a bit dark constantly, but i think that is what DJ KNO does the best (dark beats). I think he is at his best production wise on this album, but I would agree I Think APOS was a better album.

even tho southernunderground is still dope its jus they make good music consitantly.

even tho southernunderground is still dope its jus they make good music consitantly.

Definitely a good album, but I always liked tracks like "Since When", "The South", or "Old School" (although my favorite cunninlynguists track is "Beautiful Girl"). My favorites are APOS > Southernunderground > WRFF > Dirty Acres. Definitely a good group though.

Anyways, I was updating all of the stuff that missed out while I was unemployed. I thought that The Scenic Route by Panacea was pretty good, as well as Sweep the Leg. Definitely a good year all around.

Lupe Fiasco "The Cool"

After more and more listens, this album is pretty good, but not elite at all.

The production is different. Lot of synth beats but I still dig it. In case you didn't notice there is no sampling in any of the beats. Some of the beats seem a bit hip/pop but I think Lupe can play it off. He shows his lyrical ability and his versatility as well. The concept topic is genius and the album together goes along well (other than that terrible last song "go baby".

jaespur21
12-12-2007, 06:25 PM
yeah ive only been able to go thru the album once so far. songs that stood out are intruder alert, fighters, put you on game. those song stand out but ive had the coolest and dumb it down and superstar since they were on itunes. the go baby song isnt that bad imo, i liked it.

I'm one of the very few people who are not big Lupe fans. Superstar is a hot track for sure, but some of the production is pretty weak and his delivery just isn't my thing.

So anyways, what are you guys thinking about AOTY? Definitely a great year for hip-hop, and it'll take me awhile. Dirty Acres has definitely grown on me, and although it does drag in the middle, those last two tracks (Things I Dream and Mexico) are flat-out amazing. Definitely going to be a hard decision.

I think he is versatile in almost anyway. Lyrically many can't match his wordplay/deepness/streetwit/variety of flows. I have been waiting for an artist like this, and its a breath of fresh air. His mixtape stuff is much better than food and liqour. You get to really see his talent.

to each their own tho.

He's definitely one of those guys who I can respect his talent, but just not dig his music for whatever reason. Although he is a breath of fresh air for sure, and hopefully he has a lot of success.

im not a pure backpacker, i enjoy all rap music as long as it sounds good. while i don't think its good that some rap uses the themes of drugs, sex, and what not, it is no different than any other forms of entertainment that people enjoy.

with that being said, enjoy the coke music.
