I know most of us already know of the original basketball reference, the one modeled after baseball reference.com, but I wasn't aware there was another one...and this one is a new one affiliated with baseball reference.com...that has a few different features than the other...in some ways it's better, in some ways it's not as good...

Link: http://www.basketball-reference.com/

Even cooler...on the player pages they have similarity by age scores that the original basketball reference.com doesn't have..

Observe the pages for Duncan and Robinson:
The Admiral (http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/r/robinda01.html)
The Big Fundamental (http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/d/duncati01.html)

Since we've kind of been arguing Drob Vs Duncan lately...anyone else notice anything eerie in the similarity scores by ages?

Check it out...Hopefully the two basketball reference sites will get together and make one good site instead of two incomplete ones...and hopefully one day they'll get playoff box scores and break playoff stats down by series as well..

And if you already knew about this site...why didn't you tell me?

Good find.

They really need to get a new URL, though.

I'm wondering if it's just a new version of the old site...but there's no longer a link to baseballreference.com on the original basketball ref and baseball ref now links to the newer site...No matter though...the new one is pretty cool and I like how it breaks down the players top 10 finishes in stat categories like baseball reference does..

Nevermind.

I mixed up which site you saw first.

I like the basketballreference.com one better.

I bumped into this the other day looking for 1994-95 playoff rosters (:)) and bookmarked it, but I thought I had run into a newer version of the old site.

The newer site has much better and more useful info, IMO, since it has more detailed playoffs information. I've always thought it very strange that baseball playoffs stats are broken down by series, and football playoff stats tend to be broken down by game, but basketball playoffs stats tend only to be available on a per-season basis. It's hard to make much use of those when you want to review particular series and head-to-head historical playoff matchups. If anyone knows of a good source for series-by-series stats, I'd love to know about it.

Never mind what bitch? Don't tell me you knew about it...and if you did you are guilty of holding out on a basketball stat site...a serious crime for people who like statistical arguments as much as you do.

Edit: Ok, I just saw the never mind part at first.

Never mind :)

Are there any others you know about? Playoff box scores by any chance? Don't hold out...

I did know about it. I just don't like the way its formatted and how I have to adjust my font size to see clearly.

BTW, the PER "Player efficiency rating" they added was cool. Its a new thing since I last went there. But those ratings are from http://www.alleyoop.com (they have this seasons so far as well).

Nope. I have been looking for those as well.

Read my edit . . . .

'bout the best I've been able to do online is find playoff boxscores from about 1997 forward. I got frustrated with it a few years ago, and spend a few days in the library tracking down boxscores found in newspapers from years gone by. It's totally nerdy, but I've got every freakin' Spurs playoff box ever.

Here are some sites for playoff boxes:

1997 (http://www.usatoday.com/sports/basketba/skn/sknplsc.htm#finals), 1998 (http://www.usatoday.com/sports/basketba/98play/playix.htm), 1999 (http://www.usatoday.com/sports/basketba/99play/playix.htm), 2000 (http://www.usatoday.com/sports/basketba/00play/00sked.htm), 2001 (http://www.usatoday.com/sports/nba/01playoffs/index.htm), 2002 (http://www.usatoday.com/sports/nba/02playoffs/pi.htm), 2003 (http://www.usatoday.com/sports/basketball/playoffs/03index.htm)

Well the closest thing I've found to old box scores are at Patricias site...it doesn't really have boxes but it does have quarter by quarter write ups for every playoff game between 93-95...

I think you already know about that one though...matter of fact I think you were the one that told me about it.

Patricia's site is helpful if you need older transactional stuff, or want a larger view of things that are hard to find like salaries and contracts on a year-by-year basis.

Glad to help, if any of what I've posted does that.

I still think that there's a niche on the 'net for someone to build a site that culls playoff boxscores and breaks out playoff stats on a series-by-series (or even a game-by-game) basis. It's probably a pretty small niche for stat wonks like you and me, whottt, but sure there are others out there like us.

Seriously, good stuff Whottt, Nikos, FWD, and Rick. Thanks, I knew of a few of these...

but assumed someone as well-connected as Whottt would have already scoped them out. :hat

Nah the main site I use is the old basketball reference and the others I have are a few links to articles and box scores that haven't been flushed yet...like 02 playoffs and stuff.

Actually, prior to basketball reference the best site I could find for a playoff stats was a French site...not sure if it's still running though.

I'll post my links as soon as I get done checking out RVB's.

My links...I don't know of many hardcore stat sites outside of 82 games and the basketball reference site..

What I do have is links to is record and all time totals sites..for teams and the playoffs.

This is a site that has the all time W-L records and PCT's of franchsises and consecutive seasons making or missing the playoffs etc... with similar type groupings of individual players...most consecutive seasons scoring 20 points per game etc... it also has a cool section with the stats from every quadruple double...and Wilt's Triple double double
50 Greatest (http://home.swbell.net/hartley4/)

This a site that has just about every team or individual post season record:
Basekteball.com (http://www.basketball.com/nba/records/index.shtml)

This site has a cool easy to read grid of how every team in history has finished the season in it's division on a decade to decade basis...Really cool and simple way of viewing it:

Shrp Sports(This link is to the page I like...click on the page links to get the main site) (http://www.shrpsports.com/nba/decade/1990s.htm)

This link is to the French basketball site that used to have awesome historical NBA playoff stats...I can't seem to find the links now...maybe someone else can..

SPO Rouen (http://www.sporouenbasket.com/asp/zon_home/hom_acc.asp)

Lakers Stat Site...Self Explanatory (http://www.lakerstats.com/)

This one is a fun site where you can match up teams historically and have them play a simulated game...Complete with play by play and box scores.

Most of you guys have probably heard about it...I have't used it in years, I hope they have fixed their sims so the 96-97 Spurs can no longer beat the 95-96 Bulls :)
What if (http://www.whatifsports.com/nba/default.asp)

This is an article that I think most of us saw comparing all the HOF centers to each other head to head..Came out in Drob's last season for the first time Shaq and Yao went head to head...needs to be updated though...DRob finished with a wnning regular season record against Shaq...

Great ones head to head (http://espn.go.com/nba/s/2003/0116/1493700.html)
