Sorry to start a new thread, but I thought it was pertinent...

Here is Chad Ford's take on who gets taken where and why...

It's almost draft day, and the picture is getting clearer and fuzzier simultaneously.

We've been able to narrow down the list of prospects that each team is considering, but two things stand in the way of getting a complete picture.

One, this is a time when many GMs are notorious for dropping smoke screens. A source in Memphis swears the team is taking Joakim Noah. Another says to bank on the Grizzlies' taking Mike Conley. Someone is misinformed or bluffing.

Two, there is a flurry of trade conversation, starting with Memphis, Boston, Charlotte and Chicago all talking about trading away their lottery picks. Meanwhile teams such as Golden State, Phoenix and the Lakers are trying hard to move up. Others -- like Portland, Indiana and Toronto -- are trying to get in or grab another pick.

The talk in Phoenix about trading up in the draft has gotten so hot that the Suns have gotten Noah, Jeff Green and Corey Brewer to agree to a workout on Tuesday. They'll try to add Brandan Wright as a fourth. That shows you how much players want to play in Phoenix -- they'll drop everything just for the chance. It could be the most competitive workout of the draft.

Here's our latest take, after talking to numerous NBA team sources, on how the draft might play out on Thursday. You can also check out our just updated Top 100 list to get a look at the best prospects in the draft.....

Portland
Greg Oden Position: C

(Oden's previous position: No. 1 to Portland)

The skinny: Both Oden and Kevin Durant did their thing in Portland last week. Durant had a considerably better workout than Oden -- but how much will these workouts move the needle?

While the chances of GM Kevin Pritchard's shocking the world and taking Durant have increased, I think the odds are still overwhelmingly in Oden's favor.

Seattle
Kevin Durant Position: SF

(Durant's previous position: No. 2 to Seattle)

The skinny: New Sonics GM Sam Presti still has the easiest decision of the year: Just take whichever guy Portland passes on and enjoy the ride for the next decade.

While Durant should have a significant impact, Presti has a number of roster decisions left to make and still needs to find a big man with a pulse.

Atlanta

Al Horford Position: PF

Horford's previous position: No. 3 to Atlanta)

The skinny: The Hawks appear to be locked in on Horford ... if they keep the pick.

Memphis, Phoenix and others have been talking to the Hawks about potential trades. But with Atlanta's ownership situation still in flux, making a deal with the Hawks is very complicated.

Memphis

Mike Conley Position: PG

(Conley's previous position: No. 4 to Memphis)

The skinny: They are in love with Horford, but it looks like he'll be gone. So who's next on their big board? One source says it's Conley. Another says it's Noah. A third says that Memphis is talking trade. I don't know who to believe, but the one I trust the most is saying Conley.

If they do take Conley, it will be an interesting pick, because they took Kyle Lowry in the first round last year, and the two point guards are somewhat similar.

Boston

Yi Jianlian Position: PF

Yi's previous position: No. 9 to Chicago)

The skinny: I think this is where the draft gets really interesting. It appears that Danny Ainge is trying to decide between Yi Jianlian and Jeff Green. But I still think the odds are in favor of Ainge's trading the pick in an attempt to pick up a veteran.

I had Yi at the No. 5 spot for a month, then I backed off in Mock Draft Version 4.0. Now I have him back here again.

At the end of the day, most GMs say they take the best player available, regardless of need. In this case, Yi would be the highest-rated player remaining and he would fill a need, so I think Ainge swallows hard and pulls the trigger.

Milwaukee

Jeff Green Position: SF

Green's previous position: No. 7 to Minnesota)

The skinny: The Bucks would like to get their hands on Horford or Conley. They also have been positioning themselves to take Yi should he fall to No. 6. But if all three of those guys are off the board, I think it will come down to Green and Brandan Wright.

Wright might have more upside, but I don't think the Bucks are willing to wait. Green is ready now and fits a need at forward.

Minnesota

Joakim Noah Position: PF

(Noah's previous position: No. 8 to Charlotte)

The skinny: The Timberwolves' biggest need is in the front court, and there's a lot of speculation that they like Spencer Hawes. But I've been assured by several sources that they've made no promise to Hawes.

From what I can gather, they'll decide between Hawes, Joakim Noah and Al Thornton here. Noah wouldn't help much on the offensive end, but he would give them much-needed size and energy in the frontcourt.

Yi Jianlian and Jeff Green are also possibilities here if they slide.

Charlotte

Corey Brewer Position: SG

(Brewer's previous position: No. 5 to Boston)

The skinny: It sounds like the Bobcats are seriously considering trading this pick. The Suns and Sixers, among others, have talked about moving up to No. 8.

The Bobcats like Brewer and USC's Nick Young. Brewer's the better defender, while Young's the better offensive player.

Chicago
(via New York)

Spencer Hawes Position: C

(Hawes' previous position: No. 10 to Sacramento)

The skinny: The Bulls are looking for a big man, and Joakim Noah and Yi Jianlian are their first two choices.

If both are off the board, they'll decide between Hawes, Brandan Wright and Julian Wright. The Wrights are better prospects, but where would they fit on the Bulls? Brandan Wright would duplicate Tyrus Thomas, and Julian Wright would duplicate Luol Deng.

That leaves Hawes, whose offensive skills could give the Bulls some desperately needed points in the paint down the road.

Sacramento
Brandan Wright Position: PF

(Wright's previous position: No. 6 to Milwaukee)

The skinny: The word is that Wright is slipping on draft boards. Everyone loves his talent, but in workouts he's proven to be further away from contributing than many of the other picks in the draft. Combine that with concerns about his motor, and he could slip.

But it's hard to see him slipping past the Kings. He fits a need and just has too much talent to pass on here.

Julian Wright and Spencer Hawes, if they're still available, are also possibilities here.

Atlanta
(via Indiana)

Acie Law Position: PG

(Law's previous position: No. 19 to L.A. Lakers)

The skinny: We keep hearing the Hawks will address the point guard situation with this pick one way or the other.

The early word was that the team was high on Javaris Crittenton, but after Law's workout last week, it now looks like Law has moved into the lead.

Law doesn't have the upside of Crittenton but he's much more NBA ready.

Rodney Stuckey looks like he has moved into the picture for Atlanta as well.

Philadelphia

Al Thornton Position: SF

(Thornton's previous position: No. 12 to Philadelphia)

The skinny: The Sixers really need a power forward, but at this point, all of the worthy ones are gone. Thornton's a scoring machine and would be a nice complement to Andre Iguodala, who's coming off a breakout year in Philly.

Nick Young and Jason Smith also are possibilities here.

The Sixers have been trying to move up in the draft by packing this pick with their other two first-rounders, so watch them carefully. They'd prefer to get their hands on a guy like Al Horford, Jeff Green or Brandan Wright.

New Orleans

Nick Young Position: SG

(Young's previous position: No. 13 to New Orleans)

The skinny: With Desmond Mason's hitting free agency, the Hornets will look for a shooting guard to play alongside a (hopefully) healthy Peja Stojakovic.

Young is the ideal fit. He's an excellent shooter and a big-time athlete. If he develops, he and Chris Paul could become one of the most exciting backcourts in the NBA.

If Young is off the board, they'll likely decide between Thornton, Rodney Stuckey and Julian Wright.

L.A. Clippers

Julian Wright Position: SF

(Wright's previous position: No. 14 to L.A. Clippers)

The skinny: The Clippers like Acie Law, but it's looking more and more likely that the Hawks will take him at No. 11. The Clippers have been talking trade with a number of teams, but so far they haven't been able to close a deal.

Wright would be a good fit in L.A. Mike Dunleavy likes smart, versatile, point-forward type players, and at this point in the draft Wright is a steal.

The Clips could also fill their need at point guard with Crittenton.

AFBlue

Detroit
(via Orlando)
Rodney Stuckey Position: SG

(Stuckey's previous position: No. 15 to Detroit)

The skinny: At this point the Pistons will take the best player who slides to them. Thornton, Nick Young and Stuckey are all on the radar screen here.

Stuckey would be an excellent fit in Detroit. They need someone who can pressure the defense and play both positions in the backcourt.

Washington

Spencer Hawes Position: C

(Hawes' previous position: No. 9 to Chicago)

The skinny: Hawes is a talented big man who could go as high at No. 9 to the Bulls or No. 10 to the Kings.

But if he falls, the Wizards get a rare chance at a talented big man this late in the draft. Hawes has a great offensive game and some toughness.

He's not a great rebounder or shot-blocker, but he should be an upgrade over what the Wizards currently have in the middle.

New Jersey
Sean Williams Position: C

(Williams' previous position: No. 22 to Charlotte)

The skinny: The Nets have been trying to pull off a deal that would ship out Richard Jefferson and this pick for a veteran big man.

If they can't pull that off by draft night (and sources say it's unlikely) they are going back and forth between Williams, Jason Smith, Josh McRoberts and Glen Davis. Williams has the biggest upside, but also poses the biggest risk.

However, for a team desperately needing an athletic big man who can rebound and block shots, he's worth the gamble.

Golden State

Jason Smith Position: PF

(Smith's previous position: No. 17 to New Jersey)

The skinny: The Warriors have been trying to move up in the draft in an attempt to get their hands on Yi Jianlian.

Their primary bait has been Monta Ellis and this pick.

Sources say the Hawks and Bobcats have shown interest. If they fail to execute a trade, the Warriors should be really happy with Smith, an athletic forward who can face the basket and shoot the lights out.

L.A. Lakers

Rudy Fernandez Position: SG

(Fernandez's previous position: No. 19 to Los Angeles Lakers)

The skinny: This pick is really up in the air until we know what's happening with Kobe.

Assuming the Lakers keep it, we hear they like Fernandez, an athletic guard who loves to play above the rim.

The Lakers believe Fernandez has enough ball handling ability to play the point in their system.

Given his extensive experience in the Euroleague and ACB, he could be a guy who can come in and play right away -- if they can get him out of his contract in Spain.

Miami

Javaris Crittenton Position: PG

(Crittenton's previous position: No. 20 to Miami)

The skinny: The Heat are hurting at the point. Jason Williams is coming up on a contract year and the Heat prefer to play Dwyane Wade at the 2.

Crittenton could go as high as No. 11 or No. 14. He has a big upside as a point guard. He has great size for the position, excellent athleticism and a beautiful stoke on his jumper.

However, he's going to take a while to develop. Miami is also a likely candidate to trade their pick.

Philadelphia
(via Denver)

Glen Davis Position: PF

(Davis' previous position: No. 31 to Seattle)

The skinny: The Sixers need a power forward in the worst way and Davis has the potential to be a good one in the pros.

Weight is the issue that causes him to slide, but he has great talent both inside and outside.

If he can stay under 300 pounds, he could be a steal here.

Charlotte
(via Toronto)

Daequan Cook Position: SG

(Cook's previous position: No. 32 to Boston)

The skinny: He's young and inexperienced, but Cook has a beautiful stroke and great athleticism. He's a project, but worth a gamble this late in the draft.

New York
(via Chicago)

Wilson Chandler Position: SF

(Chandler's previous position: No. 23 to New York)

The skinny: The Knicks are rumored to have made a promise to the DePaul forward. That might explain why he's been dropping out of workout after workout. If it's not the Knicks, it sure sounds like someone in the first round has gotten ahold of him.

Chandler is an interesting player -- he's one of the best athletes in the draft and can play a little 3 and 4. But he doesn't quite have the motor that Isiah Thomas usually prizes in a prospect, and he isn't the shooting guard they've been searching for.

Sean Williams, Daequan Cook and Jared Jordan are the other players the Knicks are rumored to be looking at.

Phoenix
(via Cleveland)

Tiago Splitter Position: PF

(Splitter's previous position: No. 24 to Phoenix)

The skinny: The Suns could use the cap space, so don't be surprised if they go ahead and take an international player who they can keep overseas for a year.

At one time Splitter was considered a lottery talent. He's big, plays defense and has been facing great competition in Europe. A good value pick at this juncture.

Utah

Morris Almond Position: SG

(Almond's previous position: No. 27 to Detroit)

The skinny: Almond is a big-time scorer with one of the best long-range shots in the draft.

He should be a good fit in Utah's half-court system. Arron Afflalo and Alando Tucker are other possibilities here.

Houston

Nick Fazekas Position: PF

(Fazekas' previous position: No. 26 to Houston)

The skinny: Rockets GM Daryl Morey is a stats guy and Fazekas ranks very high on John Hollinger's latest formula. They also need a power forward and a shooter, making Fazekas an obvious pick.

Detroit
Marco Belinelli Position: SG

(Belinelli's previous position: No. 30 to Philadelphia)

The skinny: The Italian swingman is one of the best shooters in the draft. He's not afraid to shoot the ball and has lots of playing experience in the Euroleague.

Carlos Delfino didn't work out in Detroit, but Belinelli won't be so timid.

San Antonio

Jared Dudley Position: SF
Height: 6-7
Weight: 219
Age: 21
School: Boston College

(Dudley's previous position: No. 28 to San Antonio)

The skinny: Bruce Bowen is 36 years old and the Spurs eventually will have to find a replacement. Dudley is the type of gritty, intelligent forward who could fill a big role for the team right away.

His hustle and shooting touch make him this year's Shane Battier.

Phoenix

Gabe Pruitt Position: PG

Pruitt's previous position: No. 18 to Golden State)

The skinny: The Suns will likely try to find a backup at point guard here. The team likes Petteri Koponen as a future project and Aaron Brooks as a guy who can play now. But Pruitt may be the compromise candidate.

He's a guy who has experience and still has upside. A steal this late in the draft.

Philadelphia
(via Dallas)
Josh McRoberts Position: PF

(McRoberts' previous position: No. 21 to Philadelphia)

The skinny: McRoberts isn't flashy, but he does a lot of little things that help his team. He was once considered a lottery prospect and he still has talent and upside, so this should be a solid pick. He could go as high as No. 17 or slip all the way to here.

Any chance for the Insider second half?

AFBlue

31. Seattle SuperSonics (from Memphis)

Arron Afflalo | SG | UCLA
Afflalo is a tough, physical swingman with a beautiful midrange game and great defensive mind-set.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

32. Boston Celtics

Petteri Koponen | PG | Finland
Boston lands another good young point guard with size and amazing poise for his age.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

33. San Antonio Spurs (from Milwaukee)

Zabian Dowdell | PG | Virginia Tech
Spurs desperately need a backup to Tony Parker. Dowdell's size, toughness and shooting ability make him a natural fit.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

34. Dallas Mavericks (from Atlanta)

Derrick Byars | SF | Vanderbilt
Talented swingman doesn't do anything great, but is versatile, can shoot and plays defense.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

35. Seattle SuperSonics

Renaldas Seibutis | SG | Lithuania
Sonics likely will let Seibutis continue to develop in Greece. We hear they think his toughness and midrange game is a nice complement to Ray Allen down the road.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

36. Golden State Warriors (from Minnesota)

Reyshawn Terry | SF | North Carolina
Terry has the prototypical body and game of an NBA small forward. He got lost in the shuffle at UNC, but the Warriors are already planning ahead should Matt Barnes leave via free agency.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

37. Portland Trail Blazers

Ramon Sessions | PG | Nevada
Adding a third point guard is a priority. Jarrett Jack is big. Sergio Rodriguez is crafty and Sessions is super quick and knows how to get to the basket.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

38. Philadelphia 76ers (from New York via Chicago)

Sun Yue | SF | China
He's my sleeper. The Sixers and several other teams have been quietly jostling for position over him. He's a 6-foot-9 point forward with intriguing skills. He isn't ready, but with three picks, why not take a project?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

39. Miami Heat (from Sacramento)

Taurean Green | PG | Florida
Talented Florida point guard stays home. Miami has a lot of needs at the point and Green has proven poise and a great jump shot.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

40. L.A. Lakers (from Charlotte)

Marcus Williams | SF | Arizona
Williams is a small forward with an excellent midrange game. He doesn't fit a huge need for the Lakers, but there's just too much value here to pass on.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

41. Minnesota Timberwolves (from Philadelphia)

Joao Gomes | SF | Portugal
Wolves take a flier on an athletic small forward with a good shooting touch. They can leave him in Europe to develop and hope he delivers dividends down the road.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

42. Portland Trail Blazers (from Indiana)

Alando Tucker | SF | Wisconsin
Blazers are still searching for a small forward. They could do worse than the Big Ten player of the year. Tucker is tough and gritty in a Desmond Mason-type way, but Portland still needs a shooter.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

43. New Orleans Hornets

JamesOn Curry | SG | Oklahoma State
Scoring combo guard could eventually give the Hornets a nice pick-me-up off the bench.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

44. Orlando Magic

Trey Johnson | SG | Jackson State
One of the best scorers in college basketball adds some depth to the Magic backcourt.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

45. L.A. Clippers

Kyrylo Fesenko | PF | Ukraine
Aggressive big man from Ukraine is a mystery man but he could help the Clippers down the road in the middle.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

46. Golden State Warriors (from New Jersey)

Jermareo Davidson | PF | Alabama
Nellie likes big men who think they're guards, so our guess is he'll love Davidson.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

47. Washington Wizards

Aaron Gray | C | Pittsburgh
Gray's lack of athleticism has caused his stock to drop. But he's got the chance to be a solid rotation player down the road.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

48. L.A. Lakers

Herbert Hill | PF | Providence
Hill is a meat-and-potatoes power forward who came on huge this season. If he continues to develop, he could be a steal this late.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

49. Chicago Bulls (from Golden State via Phoenix, Boston and Denver)

Marc Gasol | C | Spain
John Paxson couldn't land Pau Gasol at the trade deadline, but he does get his brother Marc. Marc is more of a lumbering big man, but he's tough and he'll rebound.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

50. Dallas Mavericks (from Miami via L.A. Lakers)

Stanko Barac | C | Bosnia
Dallas doesn't have any real room for rookies, so the Mavs take a flier on a Serbian big man who's started to make progress in Europe. They'll check back in on him in a couple of years.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

51. Chicago Bulls (from Denver)

D.J. Strawberry | SG | Maryland
Some believe Strawberry could turn himself into a lock-down defender in the NBA. His ability to play both the 1 and the 2 helps his cause.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

52. Portland Trail Blazers (from Toronto)

Dominic McGuire | SF | Fresno State
Athletic forward can handle the ball, rebound and block shots. But he's still figuring out his offensive game. He's kind of a poor man's Andrei Kirilenko.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

53. Portland Trail Blazers (from Chicago)

Zoran Erseg | PF | Serbia
Thin big man with a sweet shooting touch really came on in Serbia this year. A nice prospect for down the road.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

54. Orlando Magic (from Cleveland)

Demetris Nichols | SF | Syracuse
One of the best shooting forwards in the draft drops into the Magic's lap at No. 54. Not sure where they'll put all of these guys, but they are getting talent in the second round.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

55. Utah Jazz

Jared Jordan | PG | Marist
Jordan is a pure point guard with some of the best court vision in the draft. His lack of size and athleticism will cause him to slide, but he should be very popular in Utah as the starting point guard on the Jazz's new NBDL team.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

56. Milwaukee Bucks (from Houston)

Stephane Lasme | PF | Massachusetts
Athletic forward is one of the best shot-blockers in the draft. He's undersized, but could add a much needed defensive presence to the Bucks' front line.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

57. Detroit Pistons

Aaron Brooks | PG | Oregon
Pistons pick up one of the fastest guards in the draft for cheap. He's more of a scorer than a point guard, but so was Lindsey Hunter.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

58. San Antonio Spurs

Ali Traore | PF | France
Spurs don't have a roster space, so they make Tony Parker happy by drafting his fellow Frenchman. Actually, Traore is a load on the block and could be a nice prospect down the road after a few more years developing in France.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

59. Phoenix Suns

Kyle Visser | C | Wake Forest
Wake Forest big man turned into a good scorer and a decent post player his senior year.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

60. Dallas Mavericks

Carl Landry | PF | Purdue
The Mavs need toughness in the paint and Landry can deliver.

Man, the Spurs passing on Byars twice? Byars looks like the type of player that could step in and fill a role right away.

But yeah, I guess the Spurs couldn't go with Dudley and Byars. Dowdell at 33 would be nice. He seems like the point guard candidate who Pop would fall in love with in training camp. Defensive, long arms and aggressive are all traits that can help a player get on Pop's good side.

Traore at 58 would be a bad pick. The Spurs don't need a stiff Euro with limited potential. At least get a stiff Euro with decent potential :)

Ford has been pimping Stuckey forever. Nice player, nice guy, too; but if we pass on someone like, I dunno, Julian Wright or Law to take him I'm gonna be pissed. It all just keeps reminding me how much Ford LOVED Darko. :bang

If the Hawks' staff had any brains, they'd take Law, or even Stuckey over Crittenton. He's a nice young player, but he's nowhere near ready to handle the pressure being a highly touted lottery pick in his home town will put on him. Oh never mind. They'd probably just draft a PG and decide to trade him for another forward. How the hell has Knight been able to keep his job this long? That front office is a complete joke - ownership too.

I've never been a big proponent of this guy, at least not at 15. As much as he seems like a good, hardworking player, he doesn't have Wade's speed nor Wade's length - he also has an unorthodox shot that he releases from in front of his face, his decision-making and ability to play lead guard is unproven, he came from EWU, played in a weak conference and couldn't lead his team to a winning record in either of his two seasons.. Forget Wade, I'd be happy if he turned out to be Flip Murray and not Mateen Cleaves. :depressed

Hoopsworld has their final mock draft where they have five different "writers" predict the picks. Of course, the Spurs end up with five different players (Alando Tucker, Kyrylo Fesenko, Taurean Green, Jared Dudley and Rudy Fernandez).

You can always count on the inside scoop coming from Hoopsworld :tu
