The other thread was getting long and people suggested a new thread- and we thought draft night was a good night to start it.

The main rumors are about Jose Calderon- with about half the NBA contacting the Raptors about him and a few teams actually making legitimate offers. I really do not think any of them will happen today. The Hawks really want Jose but the Raptors want Atlanta to give up Josh Smith for him and I expect neither side to budge.

I do think, though, that Toronto will end up with a first round pick, and their pick will be somewhat of a surprise.

I hope the team keeps Calderon.

Guess their man was not available... Oh, well.

Onto free agency.

BC on radio tonight after the first round.

The Raptors had made to them a couple of proposals to get into the top ten in the draft but none were ones they wanted to make- specifically one that would have required taking on a contract that was just too problematic moving forward.

Also had some talks with teams with middle to late first round picks that went on right up until the moment the pick was made.

They did have a specific player targeted who got picked right before they were ready to jump in. That is what I had been hearing- that there was one certain player they wanted and a deal was set up if he was still available at that certain point.

They really had no interest in anyone else or committing guaranteed dollars to anyone left.

Traded with the Spurs for the 58th pick- Printezis. Maybe it will help them sign another Greek in free agency. :toast

Roko looks like a good prospect, so i wouldn't be to stressed about Calderon being traded, but only it there is a really good deal. Otherwise just use him this season and let his contract run out. He played good last season, maybe he'll play even better in his contract year.

Love this picture!

http://www.nba.com/media/raptors/Printezis_draftcap_180.jpg

He is under contract for one more year with Olympiakos and didn’t want to put a timetable on when he would be ready for the league.

“It’s day-by-day, step-by-step,” he said. “When I’m ready I want to come, maybe now, maybe one year, maybe two years.”

Printezis knew he had turned heads at the camp and journeyed to New York for the draft. He said he remained confident he would not be passed over “until 50. I wasn’t nervous. But when the draft got past 54, I was a little more nervous.”

Kapono to sign with Raptors. Details to follow...

Free agent sharpshooter Jason Kapono has quickly reached an agreement Sunday to leave the Miami Heat and sign a four-year deal believed to be worth $24 million with the Toronto Raptors.

The NBA's free agent period commenced at 12:01 Sunday morning, with free agents unable to formally sign contracts before July 11.

"Jason is excited about this opportunity and intends to sign with the Raptors when the moratorium period ends," said Kapono's agent, Bob Myers.

Kapono, a second-round draft pick of the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2003, led the NBA in 3-point percentage, and posted career-highs in points (10.9) and rebounds (2.7) this season.

Second time he's given a number away of a long time Raptor before their ass even left Toronto. First Alvin Williams (for FRED JONES), then Mo Pete.

Add the fact that it seems like he's building a team made for short term success and I'm starting to hate his overrated ass more and more.

What is the big deal? Mo's contract was up 2 weeks ago and he is signing elsewhere.

No one griped when he gave Garbajosa Vince Carter's number.

Why would anyone gripe about VC? He left on bad terms demanding a trade and purposely playing crappy until he got his wish.

Mo Pete was the longest serving Raptor in franchise history. He always was a class act, and even though frustrated with playing time, tried his best to bite his lip. The way he stepped up back in '02 when the Raps won 12 of 14 without VC to make the playoffs is still fresh in my mind. As a life-long fan of the Raps, I think he deserves better.

Ah! Where is Mo Pete going?

I understand the people who have a hard time seeing Jason with Mo's number.
I know I certainly did not want to see anyone else wear # 8 last year, even after Sho changed his number to 12.
Also I wasn't thrilled about Nick wearing 31, even though Malk had already been gone awhile.

Raptors Sign Jamario Moon

July 10, 2007

(TORONTO) -- The Toronto Raptors announced Tuesday they have signed free agent forward Jamario Moon to a two-year contract. Per team policy, financial details were not disclosed. Moon attended the Raptors’ free agent camp held June 22-24 at Air Canada Centre.

Moon, 6-foot-8, 205 pounds, saw action in 44 games with the Continental Basketball Association’s Albany (N.Y.) Patroons in 2006-07. He finished seventh in the CBA in scoring (18.8), fifth in rebounding (7.8), third in steals (2.0) and second in blocks (2.4). He also ranked fifth in the league in three-point field goal percentage at .401 (73-182) and shot .503 per cent (316-628) from the field. He was named the CBA Defensive Player of the Year and earned first-team All-CBA honours.

Following his stint in the CBA, Moon joined the Gary (Ind.) Steelheads of the United States Basketball League where he averaged 16.7 points, 6.8 rebounds, 1.6 steals and 2.1 blocks in 22 contests.

The native of Rockford, Alabama has also spent professional playing time in the National Basketball Development League (Huntsville (Ala.) Flight and Mobile (Ala.) Revelers), American Basketball Association (Kentucky Colonels) and the World Basketball Association with the Rome (Ga.) Gladiators. He averaged 13.4 points and 6.3 rebounds in 21 games for the Gladiators, leading them to the 2005 WBA Championship. Moon went undrafted as an early entry candidate for the 2001 NBA Draft after one year at Meridian Community College in Meridian, Mississippi.

The Toronto Raptors announced Wednesday they have signed former Raptor and restricted free agent forward Maceo Baston to an offer sheet. Per team policy, contract terms were not disclosed. Under the rules of the collective bargaining agreement, the Indiana Pacers have seven days from receipt to match the Raptors’ offer.

Baston, 6-foot-10, 230 pounds is a veteran of two NBA seasons and six years overseas, where he teamed with current Raptor Anthony Parker to lead Maccabi Tel Aviv to three Israeli Premier League championships (2004-06) and two Euroleague title (2004 and 2005). He appeared in 47 games with Indiana last season, averaging 2.9 points and 1.6 rebounds. He topped the Pacers in field goal percentage at .645 (49-76). He posted a season-best 14 points and eight rebounds at New Jersey on January 15.

Baston played in 16 games with Toronto at the end of the 2002-03 season, averaging 2.6 points while shooting .600 per cent (15-25) from the field and .833 per cent (10-12) from the free throw line. In 63 career NBA games, he has shot .634 per cent from the field and .797 per cent at the foul line.

Baston averaged 14.5 points and 5.1 rebounds in his Premier League play with Maccabi and 13.2 points and 6.4 rebounds in Euroleague action. In the 2004-05 season, he shot .682 per cent from the field in the Premier League and .764 per cent in the Euroleague.

Indiana did not match- so Baston is a Raptor. The roster is at 14 guaranteed deals and 1 unguaranteed (Moon). Probably will fill out with a third string vet PG (Martin) and call it a summer, unless a nice trade opportunity comes along.

Delfino injures knee

Canadian Press

August 19, 2007 at 3:26 PM EDT

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico — Toronto Raptors guard Carlos Delfino injured his knee over the weekend and may miss part of the FIBA Americas Championship, according to a report in an Argentine newspaper.

Delfino injured his knee in the Tuto Marchand Cup and could sit out Argentina's game against Uruguay in Las Vegas on Thursday.

"It is the same knee I underwent surgery on two years ago and that's what makes me worry most, as I cannot stretch the leg too much," Delfino told La Nacion newspaper on Sunday.

"I know it's not serious, but I worry because I cannot get out of my mind memories about how much I have suffered with this knee."

Delfino underwent an MRI scan on the injury. National team doctor Diego Grippo said he felt optimistic after seeing the results.

"Delfino has a kneecap tendinitis provoked by a blow that limits the movements of the knee, but physiotherapy will help it disappear in a few days," Grippo said.

Delfino could be the third Raptor to pull out of international competition with an injury this summer.

Chris Bosh left the U.S. team earlier this week due to plantar fasciitis in his foot, while Spanish forward Jorge Garbajosa still hasn't been cleared to play following leg injuries he sustained in the regular season.

Toronto acquired Delfino from the Detroit Pistons for two second-round draft picks on June 15.

The FIBA tournament, which begins Wednesday and runs until Sept. 2, will serve as the qualifier for the Beijing Olympics. The top two teams will earn automatic berths, while the next three top-ranked teams will be invited to the FIBA World Olympic Qualifier, which will be held next July.
