Marcus Williams???
6'7" 205 lbs. SF
PPG FG% RPG APG FT%
16.6 49.4 6.7 2.2 69.5
BIOGRAPHY: Williams is entering the draft after a strong sophomore season at Arizona, ending any chance of returning to college after hiring an agent. Averaged 16.6 points and 6.7 rebounds per game this past season, but struggled in two postseason contests. He failed to show much leadership as Arizona was eliminated after one game in both the Pac-10 and NCAA tournament. He was held to a combined 24 points and four rebounds in those losses, and also struggled defensively:cry.
A shaky performance against Purdue in the NCAA tournament might have damaged his draft status. He had just 11 points and one rebound, and defensive miscues gave the Boilermakers open shots. His streaky play might worry some NBA teams, but his ability to play shooting guard or small forward would certainly be a plus for a club looking to add versatility. Williams' negative attitude has been a problem, and he often settles for jump shots instead of driving the lane. Shot 47.5 percent from the field and 35.6 from 3-point range in his career at Arizona. Had a strong freshman season, averaging 13.0 points per game. Scored 24 points in an NCAA tournament loss to No. 3 Villanova that season, when his stock was probably higher than it is now.

Making lots of moves doesn't always equal nice. But if you're portland any change is an improvment.
I didn't say since they mad a lot of moves Portland was going to be good. I actually like what they have done, buying 2 late first rounders. Fernandez & Kopponen are nice prospects. They got rid of Randolph. Portland is putting together a nice team.

Koponen has bust written all over him, I didn't like him at all. I think Portland made a bad move there, but overall they have some good prospects to turn to and a great one in Oden. Let's see if Oden ever get's an offensive game to match his defensive one, which is questionable.

Doesn't Portland have Sergio Rodriguez and Jarrett Jack under contract? Those are two solid point guards who can play well with Roy. A bit skeptical about the Koponen pick.

Spurs clearly drafted future potential. Splitter needs to come-on strong soon. He's got the body and a lot of upside. However, he has been hyped for several years with actual floor contributions just not measuring up.

Fernandez more likely I think than Kopenen. The guy has got talent, but he's raw. Supposedly though has got a high basketball IQ.
Either way, the Blazers are going to be an insanely young, but deep and athletic team. Unlike the Celtics, who also stockpiled talent, Portland actually has some franchise player talent. Oden, Roy and Aldridge all have ability.

So
Splitter - Draft and Stash, likely over in 2k8. Good talent at the 28
Printezis - Draft and Stash. Pick 58, pretty close to a write off
Williams - Interesting. If the Spurs can teach character, work ethic and a commitment to defense, good pick. Otherwise, somewhat of a waste of 33. Personally I would have picked Fazekas, McRoberts, Nichols, Byars, or McGuire over him. Hope he works out for the Spurs.
Dowdell went undrafted - interesting. Someone send that man an invitation to our summer league team.

Makes you wonder if the Spurs told him that they would draft him with one of their picks (obviously their last pick). If that's the case, then the only question I have is what was his draft alias?
Maybe it was George Prince. Nah, too close to his real name. My guess is Mike Oxbig or Craven Morehead.

I guess having just won the Championship one really cant bitch about keeping essentially the same roster...
I really wanted someone young and exciting to play as in NBA '08 though. Fernandez or Bellinelli would have been optimum. Alas, Spurs stay Spurs and that will always be under the radar and boring. And as usual we wont be able to grade this draft for 5 years.

Two outta the three picks I like. With Splitter they got an athletic big man with some defensive and rebounding ability. He's been projected as a lottery pick the last couple of times he was in the draft, and again this year.
Williams I have no idea about. This Greek guy, Printezis has got prototypical physical attributes and skills for a long SF. Range, rebounding and, supposedly, an attitude. I think this draft may pay off faster than we might expect.

I understand why RC did this actually. We may "need" to get younger, but as of right now we have a good team, and he said that there arent really any spots open.
We're probably going to keep splitter and Greek overseas. I doubt williams will make the team.

I think it really depends on Scola's demands. If he's willing to play for something around the LLE, I can see it. If he wants a good chunk - or all - of the MLE, then he'll probably never be brought over. But I think it is up to him to a further point than just saying, 'I want to play in the NBA'...

They will let the dust settle after the draft and look around. They have a good chip to play with Barry...veteran presence, 2 guard with range that plays defense...worst case scenario they bring back the same back court that won the chanpionship this year. Scola is also a huge trade chip now...there were a lot of teams looking for a viable ready to play power forward tonight that didn't get one...

What the FUCK? Why can't they have taken a kid out of college to help them right away? Why this guy who won't probably every play here? This makes no sense at all. You are telling me at 28 there was not one kid out of college worth taking that could help the Spurs.
