2007 RBK Eurocamp: Day Four
June 14, 2007
Giorgos Printezis clearly saved his best for last here at the RBK Eurocamp, coming up with one of the most impressive individual performances seen in the four days of action. He led the RBK all-star game in scoring in a rout over the U20 Russian National team, showing off glimpses of his many versatile skills.

The first would be his very quick first step, which he used on numerous occasions to make some very strong moves to the basket. He doesn’t have great body control or explosiveness to contort himself in traffic and finish super creatively around the hoop, but he is intelligent enough to usually get the job done. Having a prototypical frame for an NBA small forward, complete with excellent strength, he is able to finish strong even after taking contact. Printezis crashed the glass pretty well also, showing nice quickness in the process and the toughness and aggressiveness to get the job done.

Where Printezis was at his best in this game was probably behind the 3-point line, though—knocking down shot after shot when left open on the perimeter. He’s not the kind of guy who will openly look to create shots for himself from behind the arc, but if given a second to square his shoulders and set his feet, he showed that he has the ability to hit his shots at a very nice clip. He made a living in this game off the catch and shoot.

Something we came away still unsure about following this camp was Printezis’ ability to defend athletic small forwards on the perimeter, even if his lateral quickness does not look all that poor. This is something that NBA teams might want to take a closer look at if they bring him in for NBA private workouts leading up to the draft. Printezis did a very nice job here, going from being almost completely off the radar to giving NBA scouts we spoke with plenty of food for thought regarding whether he might be worth investing a 2nd round pick on. At the end of the day, that’s what camps like this are really all about.

2007 RBK Eurocamp: Day Two (Part Two)
June 12, 2007
The Greek forward is looking good in this camp. After a whole year playing the power forward spot, he's getting playing time at the three position and is faring pretty well, taking advantage of his very nice combination of strength and athleticism.

Actually, his physical profile seems tailor-made for a small forward, standing somewhere around 6-8, with broad shoulders, a strong upper body, but also relatively quick and light feet. Most of the positional concerns about him revolve around his skill repertoire, certainly a bit limited for what you would like from a wing player.

Starting with what he can do, Printezis is a decent shooter with three-point range, but only in static situations. He can also put the ball on the floor to attack the basket, looking aggressive and incisive. He can go all the way to the rim taking advantage of his explosiveness to dunk the ball or leave a high layup. His first step is quite good, although he needs to find a clear path since his ball-handling skills are not that good. He can also pass the ball off the drive showing nice criteria. He's runs the court very well, being able to explode towards the rim. He's also nicely aggressive on defense, with lateral quickness that seems to work against orthodox small forwards.

On the negative side, his average ball-handling skills limit his off-the-dribble abilities. He's not a good dribbler in traffic, he doesn't seem to be able to pull-up for a mid-range jumper, and in general he seriously lacks some ability from inside the arc.

Roundup: Career High For Tomic
November 27, 2006
…Giorgos Printezis, who erupted this weekend for 31 points and 6 rebounds in the Greek League against Egaleo. Loaned from Olympiacos to Olympia Larissa, last year he was trapped in a very deep rotation (actually he usually delivered every time he enjoyed the chance), but he still hadn’t particularly shined this season in his new team. So this impressive outing might have been a turning point for him. Printezis is a very active, well-built and nicely athletic 6-9 forward who seems better suited to play the four position (although he has some small forward characteristics). Given the fact that he’s not really very skilled, it limits his potential beyond FIBA basketball. He’s a face-up guy who likes to score near the basket slashing or playing without the ball. Not a great ball-handler, he’s quite aggressive and fairly quick when it comes to attacking the basket. Anyway, he doesn’t really enjoy much of a versatile off-the-dribble game. He can nail the three-pointer, always static, even if his shooting stroke is very inconsistent. The combination is definitely not very intriguing, and the chances for this 1985 player to hit the draft are close to none, but he’s a hard-working guy who delivers good effort, and it’s always a good opportunity to bring this kind of player to the table.

Sounds interesting. Let's see if he stays with the Spurs. But it seems that he has good size and skills to be a long SF in the NBA.

I don't know anything about him but his size looks good. Unlike the other long SF the Spurs have stashed away, this guy has broad shoulders and some beef.

This was the guy I wanted at 58. He fits the profile of the Long Small Forward that the Spurs need.

Who knows if he'll ever pan out but at least if he does, he fills a huge void.

BUZZMASTER: Send in your questions for him!

alejo (ARGENTNA): hi Giorgios. How do you see yourself playing with duncan, manu and parker

BUZZMASTER: Supposedly he's been traded, but no one can confirm those rumors.
