For once I agree with T Park. The FO is coming off pretty arrogant after winning. It's not even about getting an exciting player, or getting an american born player. It's about keeping up with the Joneses and not letting the rest of the league get younger and stronger. My question is this... what in the fuck did you want them to do with the 28, 33, and 58? To a Championship club?? You guys led by T Park are hilarious.

No draft player outside of Oden, Durant, Horford, or Brewer would be contributors next year. And even one of those guys would be limited in contributions as they learn.

The interesting thing for the Spurs begins now - Free Agency. This is where the pieces that filled roles in the 2007 Championship were acquired. Let's see what happens now.

Some of you people are just plain idiots. A mere 2 weeks after the team won their 4th title and you're bitching about the fucking 58th pick out of 60 of the draft being traded?

Officially traded now ..

SAN ANTONIO - The San Antonio Spurs announced today that they selected Tiago Splitter with the 28th overall pick and Marcus Williams with the 33rd overall pick in the 2007 NBA Draft. In addition, San Antonio traded the draft rights of Giorgos Printezis to the Toronto Raptors in exchange for the Raptors second round pick in the 2008 NBA Draft.

Splitter, a 6-11 forward from Brazil, has spent the past four seasons playing for Tau Ceramica in the Spanish ACB league. Last season he played in 28 games, averaging 11.2 points and 5.4 rebounds in 24.0 minutes per game. In Euroleague action, he appeared in 20 games posting averages of 10.7 points, 6.0 rebounds and 1.4 blocks per contest. For his career, Splitter has played in 96 games in the Spanish ACB league, averaging 9.2 points and 4.5 rebounds while shooting .600 (325-542) from the field. Over the last four seasons he has also played in 79 Euroleague games, averaging 8.1 points and 3.2 rebounds per contest. Splitter has been a member of the Brazilian National Team since 2002 and played in the 2002 and 2006 World Championships.

The Spurs used the 33rd overall pick they obtained from the Milwaukee Bucks in a 2006 draft night deal to select Williams out of the University of Arizona. Last season he earned First Team All-Pac-10 honors as a sophomore. He ranked fourth in the Pac-10 in scoring (16.6 ppg) and eighth in rebounding (6.7 rpg), while registering four double-doubles. As a freshman, the 6-7 forward was named to the Pac-10 All-Freshman team, averaging 13.0 points and 4.7 rebounds. During his two years with the Wildcats, Williams averaged 14.7 points, 3.7 rebounds and 2.0 assists while shooting .475 (355-748) from the field. Williams participated in the 2005 Global Games as a member of Team USA, averaging 18.8 points and 7.3 rebounds in six games.

Derrick Byars, quite a bit of players.

This was supposedly a draft as deep as 2003, and the spurs pick one guy that will prob never play on the team, and if he does, hes a mediocre rebounder who shys from contact, and a small forward that has a shit attitude and doesn't solve any problems.

The Spurs front office understands what they are doing better than anyone on this board.

They have 4 rings to prove it.

The Spurs bought a team today, and they are prepared to utilize it.

The Spurs are comfortable in their position. They have solid veterans on their team and Buford has stated he does not want too much youth on the squad. He prefers older players who know how to play basketball and know how to win. Obviously, that has worked for San Antonio.

The Spurs took Splitter because they are uncertain about Butler and Elson, who both only have 1 year remaining on their contract. Also, Oberto is a restricted free agent.

However, the Spurs are not in a dire need to fill in roster spots. So, they did the smart thing and stashed away a European in hopes that he can continue to develop his basketball game, mature, and just become a better overall player.

Marcus Williams can be one of the first to make a significant impact on the Spurs D-League team. He has the talent to succeed and the Spurs thought highly enough of him to select him with the 33rd.

Lastly, the Spurs have seen these guys play more than we all have combined on this damn board. They know the players and how they fit into their systems, or how they envision using them.

So, relax and enjoy the summer.

Byars was far from a sure thing. He had one good year in college and transferred from UVA because Gary Forbes - GARY FORBES - was going to overtake him in the lineup.

I liked him alright, but there was plenty of evidence to explain why the Spurs - and most other NBA teams - obviously didn't.

Tell me again how this solves the age problem of the team?

Talk about pot meets kettle.

I call out Pop during the regular season for dumb rotations and coaching, and Tpark defends him like Pop just got done donkey punching his mom.

Now we draft the guy who was two picks away from Mr. Irrelevant, and now Tpark is screaming that he is > Pop/R.C.

Probably because you know that you don't have an immediate need and that there is a possiblity of there being someone to fill a need in a future draft. Besides, the possibility of injuries taking out the Raptors giving the Spurs a much better 2nd rounder for this one pick is also there.

Splitter won't come over like Scola, and this young forward?

We will see, but his attitude smells like shit and I'm dissapointed they would waste their time on a peanut head.

Who would you have drafted to come in at SF or PG?

Seriously, you're so fucking critical of the front office, how hard is it to give us all a name and a reason to back up your argument?

Didn't we win a championship this year after doing just that?

There is free agency and summer league and training camp and trades until next Februrary. Please refrain from putting yourself on the cross until then.

Yeah the trading deadline, just like last year thats gonna produce a productive player.

FA, there aint shit available.

The only PG that was somewhat appealing was Aaron Miles and he said the Spurs didn't want him.

Um, this is how it happened.

I kinda agree with T park

the spurs lucked out with ginobili and now just keep trying recreate that luck, it isn't going to happen, everyone scouts the world now, not just the spurs.

the front office hasn't made ONE SINGLE PROACTIVE MOVE since Duncan got here. they lucked out with Manu, and drafted one good PG in Parker out of the 9 (now 10) first round picks that have come since Duncans draft.
any team can get one good player out of 9 late first round picks, thats par for the course.

Its time to stop relying on luck and go out and GET someone to ensure a repeat.
If a better managed team had Duncan fall into their lap, they would have won more than 4 rings by now.
If a guy like Cuban landed Duncan, I'd be a big upset every year that they DIDN'T win a ring
