Blows. The one time I forget to take the face plate off my stereo is the day some fuckhead decides to jimmy my door open and take my shit. They took the stereo, a camera and even my case full of burned CDs (all MP3 CDs... as if they could get any money for that).

Scary part was they also got my garage door opener, so I was a little nervous coming into the house, but it appears they didn't find anything with my address.

So, if anyone else has had this happen... does it EVER get returned, or is giving the police all that detailed information about what was stolen just pointless conversation?

No..it never gets returned. My stepdad got his truck broken into and they stole his cd player. It wasn't even that good of a cd player, and they still took it.

I swear....theives are some stupid people. I once had my old blazer stolen....found it a few days later, with more gas in it than I had left it with, and all they stole was a towel.

No...it's never returned but it isn't pointless convervasion. It's for the insurance companies. Sorry that happened to you. Get a trunk monkey!

Christmas season is the worst for thefts, it seems. Don't leave your garage doors open, either. This time of year, people will just walk out with tools or whatever.

The police or county sheriff's office can check on similar modus operandi. Taking stereos + garage door openers could be a key to at least getting the dude(s) that did it....Maybe.

yeah, the police report is just for the insurance companies... i had my xterra broken into while i was at fox and the hound... i was in the process of moving so i had a bunch of stuff in my vehicle.. the only they took was my laptop... kind of funny though bc it was sooo old it barely worked. plus the battery was no good and i had the charger packed somewhere else. it was like an amd 266 or something.

i also had left the keys in the mid console...whew! i could've been reporting a stolen vehicle!

When I was in Jr. High, my parents' car was broken into and they took my purse (with all of $5 in it, I was 12). Three days later, someone turned in my wallet (sans cash) to the front office of my school. They'd found it cast aside and it had my school ID in it.

I work for the police department and unfortunately, most of the time the property never gets returned. I've had my on personal vehicle broken into 2 times in the past 2/3 years and so I've learned to never leave anything expensive in there. It sucks but it's the reality in todays world.

When we lived by Encino Park, someone walked into the garage and stole the dart board. They didn't touch the pool table or the other cool stuff in there. Just the dart board.

Before I married the Princess I'd sleep with the front door unlocked and sometimes even open. My theory was if someone was able to break in and take stuff without me waking up, they deserved the stuff.

Good Point.

During the Christmas season PLEASE don't leave anything in the vehicle-or we might meet! :lol The Burglars are out there working too....be aware. Especially when ur Christmas shopping. Make sure to go home after u make a purchase(s) and then head back out into the streets.

For the record, we always lock the doors now.

Before that, he would leave the front door of his old townhouse wide open and be sleeping upstairs. :wtf

I had my truck door's lock rammed through and a heavy 2 1/2 ton jack stolen out of the back seat. They left an expensive air compressor and emergency kit next to it behind. Go figure? It cost $250 bucks to fix the door and $50 for the jack. I have a Code Alarm system in the truck now with the shock sensor. If my truck alarm goes off now, I'm coming out with my shotgun and 000 buckshot. I'm a good shot too. :devil

Knock on wood, I've never had either happen to me. But my next door neighbor had their car broken into that was parked right in front of their house for the stereo.

My front door is usually unlocked from about now until the kids come in for the night.

a word of advise...

We used to do that also...we always thought "well we live in a good neighborhood, etc"...we always left our breakfast room door unlocked when our daughter was out at night...last year someone walked into our house while my wife and I were in the bedroom and stole my wifes purse and her Tag watch and wedding rings off the counter next to the kitchen sink...

Yeah, I know...And I have a bad habit of leaving my back door unlocked. I wonder what my dog would do if someone she didn't know walked in. I swear, when she sees the Fedex and/or UPS guy, she sounds like she's ready to go for the jugular.

:lol I have those side windows on both sides of my front door and have sheer curtains in them. She demolished one so bad trying to get the UPS guy. He delivers to my house at least once a week, you'd think she'd be used to him by now. He just drops my shit and runs back to his truck.

The thing is that she wouldn't hurt a fly.

Funny...a few years ago I got a pretty decent Alpine stereo installed, and when I got home I took the face plate off so I could figure out what the buttons were for. The box was still on the back seat and someone broke into my car thinking it was in there I suppose, but they didn't mess with the dash at all. I never really took it out after that and nothing further ever happened to it. Go figure.

That was my birthday, btw....I went out to get my kids to school and me to work and found the door open and the small window shattered. That small window was $450 to replace...the bigger one only would have been about $175. So all they got was a couple of CD's and a few dollars in change for my bargain price of $450....bastards. :flipoff

I'm sorry that happened....it's a terrible feeling. :(

Legal precedent has been set for offing someone with a booby trap on your property.

The thief would be pushing up daisies and you would be butt-raped by your cellmate for the next 30 years.

But you'd still have your car...slightly bloodier than it was before someone took a liking to it, but you can still sell it for cigarette money in the hoosegow.

What the hell? Why would anyone have to know that it worked? Of course if I did do that and it did work, I'd probably have to brag about it here! :lol
