View Full Version : The second round steal

picnroll

Every draft their is some second round steal, a Redd, Boozer, Arenas, Ellis, Milsap, and there are 10 to 15 teams' fans complaining that their GM was too stupid to grab the guy instead of some stiff they did pick. A lot of times that player begins to emerge in summer league. Who is that steal? Call it now.

I really think Taurean Green is going to be one of those guys. Maybe not on the level of a Boozer or Manu, but maybe a Monta Ellis/Paul Millsap guy.

First, he's going to be learning with a bunch of young guards or a young team that can grow together and most of the weaknesses I've read about him are things that can be corrected with proper instruction.

I was really hoping the Spurs were going to find a reason to draft him.

Seriously, I think Derrick Byars will emerge as this years "steal" (just like Gilbert Arenas). He will have the opportunity to score in Philly and with that he'll get alot of attention. His defensive skills are seriously lacking, but his scoring will get him noticed (just like Arenas)

One to a customer. :lol

With that I'm going with Rayshawn Terry and Jared Jordan but if I have to choose Jordan.

Edit to go with Terry since if Clips sign Francis I don't think Jordan can get the playing time.

Is that supposed to be a good thing? Curry is the classic underachiever (with a medical condition).

I'm calling Jared Jordan. I wished like hell that the spurs would grab him at 58...he was already gone, and i doubt they would have grabbed him.

Curry plays with his back to the basket, Davis likes to face up and drive and shoot jump shots so bad comparison. Davis will end up like oliver miller, fat and out of shape.

Davis is way more athletic than Curry or Miller. He likes to shoot and also take his man off the dribble too much to get sedentary.

Of course, I'm also making a huge assumption that Doc Rivers actually uses him correctly.

Did you watch any of Vandy's games last year? He was consistantly called upon to cover the opposing teams best scorer. He is a good offensive player but it will be his defense that gets him more acclaim. He is smart, a good leader, and can both shoot the 3 and take it to the rack. I was pissed when we didn't take him.

He is also my pick as the guy everyone will be kicking themsleves over not taking.

Typically those players are all pretty good college players who have questions as to their height/athleticism/etc. I could be a homer and say Alando Tucker, but I'll go with Fazekas for now.

I admit that only saw him play only a couple of times. I don't have a great handle on his defense except what I saw in those 2 games. It might've been just off games that I saw from the defensive perspective. What I did see was an explosive scorer (with an unconventional shooting style ala Stephen Jackson) with a quick first step that can get by a lot of people. With that said, I still pick him as my steal of the second round.

Byars.... lmao @ yall still bein stuck on him :cry ..... but yea man, it's his defense that got him drafted, not his O

Marcus is the steal.... I like the potential for Terry and Green too

I think it might be Tucker. My brain's telling me that he won't be able to take his game to the NBA, but the kid's tough and a winner and if he can adjust his game to the NBA and grow then he has a chance to have a much better career than many of the 1st rounders.

It's difficult to say who is, but easy enough to say who ISN'T.

Big Baby will be a foul a minute guy who won't be able to bull his way thru NBA officiating. He's a big boy who plays like a WAY TOO BIG boy...slow feet and no real polished game.

Tucker was a first rounder though (29). This was supposed to be second round steals.

Davis could look like a steal for 2 or 3 years... and then he will inflate to 360 lbs and look more like a whale :depressed
But if he can stay in shape he could be really good. I put my 5$ on him.

I'll agree with Carl Landry. Saw him in the tournament in N.O. this year. The guy is a flat out hustler with a good-sized body. If he stays healthy, he'll make an impact.

Gabe Pruitt has a great chance to become a near All-Star. If Williams can get his shot and mind right, he'll be up there. I have a feeling he's taking his time with asserting himself on that summer league squad. He may not prove his worth for a while, or not until the NBDL season. I fear he's so sick of hearing about these "selfish" issues, that he's going to defer to a fault, limiting himself in the process.

Winner to date Aggie HoopsFan for going one, two on Landry and Davis, Honorable mention BacktoBasics and ShoogaBear for Davis and Landry respectively.I think AHF deserves a penalty for picking half the second round ... especially a stiff like Jared Jordan. That almost negates the Landry and Davis picks.

I'll do better next year. Jordan looked the part though - coming from Marist, he seemed like one of those small school kids destined for greatness.

Still, he contributed as much as Josh McRoberts this year :lol

Was Belinelli a 1st or 2nd round pick for the Warriors. They say he still looks good in practice and should be in the rotation by next year along with Brendan Wright.
